Student Voice Live! Learning Ally Panel On September 20, 2014 a group of

innovative thinkers and advocates

gathered to discuss, The Power of

Diverse Learners.

From the conversation, I strengthened

my belief in how learning is not

narrowed to solely visual, auditory nor

tactile inputs – but rather, learning is

the experiences that each of one us

creates. Learning is an invigorating

process and journey, which can be

comprised of successes, challenges and surprises.

As we either initiate new opportunities or invest to strengthen pre-existing partnerships, it is valuable to co-

create norms, which can be guided by the following prompts:

! I can be the best learner when…

! I can be the best sharer when…

Highlights

Reflection Prompts to Consider ! How can we promote the growth of self-advocacy

within young people?

! In which ways can we provide and value opportunities

to express learning beyond the typical assessments

given today?

! How can we support a shift from the “helping

mindset” to the “empowering

mindset” for all learners?

“Accommodations help me survive. Inclusion helps me thrive.”

– Theresa Soares

Learning must be broadened past the K-12 context and be

considered a lifelong disposition one can embody. !

Knowing Ourselves and Sharing with Others!

•  Panelists described how arduous the process of learning about

oneself was, but how vital is has been in their journeys. Thus,

students need opportunities to explore and re"ect.!
