Making the Grade… New Orleans Style!

3-Day, 3-Night Suggested Student Itinerary

Day One: Afternoon – Once in the Crescent City, make plans to visit the Audubon Aquarium of the Americas,

which is recognized as one of the nation’s leading aquariums, located on the banks of the Mississippi River in the Historic French Quarter. It’s an underwater adventure featuring over a million gallons of water and

habitats that hold 15,000 aquatic species. Following a tour of the Aquarium, walk on over to their newest facility, the Audubon Insectarium.

For dinner, you may want to try Barcadia, Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, Crazy Lobster, Huck Finn’s

Cafe, Hard Rock Café, Margaritaville Café, Oceana Restaurant, or House of Blues (just to name a few!!). After dinner, the group can take in a Dixieland Jazz cruise aboard an authentic steamboat or

paddlewheeler, just like in the days gone by. See and feel the power and history of the Mississippi River and its influence on New Orleans.

To end your evening, your group can experience a walking ghost tour throughout the streets of the historic French Quarter. Afterward, you may want to enjoy a traditional local treat…..Café au Lait (or Chocolate Milk!) and Beignets (a French donut, without the hole) at world famous Café du Monde, an

open-air café located in the heart of the Vieux Carre (French Quarter). The group may want to watch the beignet making through windows at the back of the café!

Day Two: Start your day with a City Sightseeing Tour to include our “cities of the dead” – our unique above-ground

burial system. After the tour, your group can shop and dine at The Outlet Collection at Riverwalk’s unique shops and eateries, all while boasting spectacular views of the Mississippi River.

After lunch, you may want to visit one of our many museums, such as the Mardi Gras World, the

National World War II Museum, or any of the Louisiana State Museums located in and around the French Quarter (the Cabildo, the Presbytere, Old U.S. Mint). The Old US Mint houses a state-of-the-art

performance venue that is perfect for performance groups and always has an audience!

Dinner this evening can be at Rock ‘N Bowl truly a New Orleans institution, or at one of the many world-famous restaurants that New Orleans has to offer. Typically, the weather is mild so a pizza party around the

hotel pool may also be an option.

Day Three: After breakfast this morning, venture outside of New Orleans where you will travel through the swamps and bayous with a local Cajun guide. You will see alligators, egrets, flora, birds and more. You may

even get to feed marshmallows to an alligator!! Your group may choose between a slow flat boat experience or an exhilarating airboat tour!

Later, your group may want to enjoy a New Orleans style po-boy on the way to visit one of our magnificent plantation homes that line the Mississippi River, many of which are National Historic Landmarks. You can

tour one of these treasures before heading back into New Orleans.

Evening – Get ready for a foot stompin’ and toe tappin’ evening when your group takes in a Cajun music restaurant, such as Mulate’s or Bayou Barn, where you can dine on Cajun cuisine and enjoy a live Cajun

band. Or you can learn how to cook Cajun & Creole food like a professional by attending a cooking demonstration at the New Orleans School of Cooking or the Southern Food & Beverage Museum. Afterward

you can dine on the delicious meal that was prepared right before your eyes. Updated July 2015

New Orleans… Music To Your Ears!

3-Night Suggested Itinerary (for Performance Groups)

famous Café du Monde located in the heart of the French Quarter before setting out for the day! Following your light breakfast, head on over to one of Audubon Nature Institute’s award winning facilities - the

Aquarium of the Americas, the IMAX Theatre or their newest venture, the Insectarium. You can grab lunch at any of these locations or you may want to explore the food court at the Outlet Collection at

Riverwalk located nearby where you can shop and dine along the riverfront.

Check into your hotel and refresh for this evening’s activities. Tonight you can perform on the docks of the Mississippi River while passengers board a riverboat paddlewheeler. After the performance you will enjoy

dinner and Dixieland jazz while cruising the Mighty Mississippi.

DAY TWO: After breakfast this morning start your day with a City Sightseeing Tour of New Orleans. You will

encompass many of the neighborhoods that make the city unique. You will get an overview of the French Quarter, see Lake Pontchartrain, City Park, and ride along the route of the St. Charles Avenue

streetcar where you will see Tulane & Loyola Universities, Audubon Park, an abundance of stately homes, churches and synagogues before passing the Garden District.

End your tour at the National World War II museum, affiliated with the Smithsonian and designated by

Congress as the “official” WWII museum of the U.S. Here you can enjoy a box lunch and a tour before your Patriotic musical performance. Afterward, take a tour of Mardi Gras World, where you will see how Mardi Gras is made! Tour carnival dens where artists and sculptors build and design floats, watch a movie about the history of Mardi Gras, then try on a costume and pose for your photo with King Kong! You can also

arrange for a private activity, such as mask making or float building.

This evening visit the infamous Preservation Hall. The building dates back to 1750 but opened as a Jazz venue to protect and honor New Orleans Jazz. Tonight enjoy the sounds of legendary musicians as well as

take part in an educational program in this historic setting. Another option is to have a performance prior to dinner with live Jazz at the Maison. Or choose from the array of student friendly restaurants located in the French Quarter such as Barcadia, Bubba Gump Shrimp Co, Hard Rock Café, House of Blues, as well as

numerous locally owned restaurants that cater to tour groups. The possibilities are endless!

DAY THREE: After breakfast today, venture outside of the city limits for a Swamp Tour where you will travel through the swamps and bayous with a local Cajun guide. See alligators and other wildlife and you may even get to feed

marshmallows to the alligators!

national treasures.
