T here’s nothing more rewarding than to be appreciated for your dedication to your
craft. Teaching may not be the best paying job in the world or it may not be the
best field for someone to be famous, but it is indeed the most fulfilling job any person
can ever have.
In celebration of World Teachers’ Day last October 4, the SSIS Student Council and
its moderator, Ms. Marriel, put the school faculty in the limelight as real-life superheroes.
All of the teachers had genuine smiles on their faces as they were welcomed with much
love and appreciation. The teachers were made to walk down the red carpet, with joy-
ous cheers of the students.
The highlight of the event was definitely the performances of the Bet on your Teach-
er winners. Ms. Xy, from the ECED department serenaded the crowd with a self-written
song, with Ms. Sasa and Sir Jay on the instruments (keyboard and guitar, respectively).
Continuing the spectacle was Ms. Mayeth, with her exceptional dance moves in her
number with Sir Gab. Last, but definitely not the least, was Sir King’s gold-worthy perfor-
mance of Bruno Mars’ 24k Magic. Each of the teachers who presented did not disap-
point the audience. Indeed, the teachers were grateful to the love and support reflect-
ed on the votes they got in the said activity.
Later that day, the
teachers and staff of SSIS
went out for a fun get-
together for a meal that’s
nourishing to both body
and soul.
It was truly a day
worth remembering. All of
the gifts, kind words, sup-
port, and other gestures of
love and appreciation
made all of the Mentors
(or heroes!) of the Valiant
Knights happy.

The importance of parental involvement in Education cannot
be overstated. This is why Stonyhurst Southville International School –
Batangas is continually making efforts in creating activities that will
help YOU be in the know.
Having Parent Learning Sessions (PLS) is one of our ways to con-
nect with YOU, parents and guardians of Valiant Knights. In its exe-
cution, we would like to inform you of the Programs, Policies, and Practices that our
school has. We believe that YOUR INVOLVEMENT is vital in the educative process, so
please make sure to be there!
PLS will be done every Thursday, from 8:30 AM – 9:30 AM, in the Conference Room.
For the first session which will be on October 17, we will be talking about Health and
Wellness for our children, focusing on mindfulness.
Be with us, every step of the way!

S uccess in the classroom doesn’t come from any single thing—it’s
about the right mix of attitude, habits, and effort. Strong study skills
are an important ingredient in this recipe, and they’re very much
learned behavior.
So, as a parent, how can you help your child develop the study skills
they need to achieve academic success—and see benefits beyond the
classroom as well? Here’s some tips to get started!
Create a designated study space for your students. Keep helpful study
supplies on hand in this area. Encourage your child to take ownership over
the area by giving them freedom to decorate, and teach them to neaten
up and organize their desk each night so they’re ready to get to work
when the time comes for the next study session.
Take effective notes. Teaching your child to use active reading strate-
gies—like taking notes or highlighting key themes and passages—is also
very helpful for retention.
Practice for tests. Simply reviewing content before a test isn’t necessarily
the best method to ensure that your child is prepared for an upcoming
test. Instead, encourage them to try more interactive approaches, like
completing practice tests or using flash cards.
Avoid cramming. Studying a little bit of a subject every day is much better
for long-term retention than studying for a longer period of time in a single
day.
Teach your child to ask for help. Teach your child how to bring up chal-
lenges early with a teacher and ask for help—and don’t be afraid to bring
up concerns with their teacher yourself either.
Avoid distraction. Teach your child how to put their computer away and
turn off all other devices that may serve as a form of distraction while
they’re studying. Multi-tasking also takes away from learning, so encour-
age your child to focus on a single subject for a sustained period of time
before moving on to another subject.
