Student Resource Packs Families should have received notes home with details of what is in each year pack and the cost. It includes everything that your child will need for the whole year. Exercise books will also be supplied. The packs are available from the office now if you choose to take them home or will be delivered to your child’s new classroom for the start of the 2019 school year. The office will also be open on Tuesday, 22 January 2019 between 10:00am - 2:00pm for resource pack and uniform sales.

The time has come when we are almost ready to say farewell to our Year 6 students for 2018 and bid them all the best for their high school journey. Next week, the final week of the term and school year, we hold two significant acknowledgement ceremonies for our students. The Year 6 Graduation Ceremony commences at 12:30pm in the school hall and we request that our students’ two guests be seated by 12:20pm for a 12:30pm start. Students are required to wear summer school uniform, which includes the grey (boys), white (girls) or Year 6 t-shirt, red and green hair ribbons, white socks for girls, grey for boys and black shoes. After the ceremony there will be a light luncheon served under the walkway. Our Year 6 Graduation Dinner will commence at 5:30pm with the meal served at 6pm. Sincere thanks to our organising committee and parents who have offered to assist. A reminder that the theme for this year is ‘Black, White & Gold’ and it is semi formal attire. A note has been prepared and will be sent home tomorrow with your child to inform parents assisting of their role and confirming the time that they are needed. Students in Years 2 to 5 will then join with Year 6 students at the disco led by Steve Bowen from 7-8:30pm (please collect promptly). Staff and parents of Year 6 students will then have the chance to dance until 9pm. LEPS staff and students are all looking forward to ensuring our Year 6 students have an enjoyable last two weeks.

Relieving Principal’s Message

Congratulations to the large number of people that ensured that last week’s Annual School Presentation Day was a huge success. Many hours were put organising the day by staff, particularly Mrs Burns. We were very appreciative to have so many guests available to present awards, especially the executive of the P & C, who work tirelessly to support and provide for the school. Congratulations to all of our students for their efforts, especially those students who were recognised with awards. Well done to our school captains, Tyler and Elissa, for an outstanding job running the Presentation Day. Congratulations to the leaders for 2019 and thank you to all the parents and visitors who came along to support the students and the school. I appreciated the many kind words I received and how much everyone enjoyed the Presentation Day. The Sports Assembly will be held this Thursday, 13 December 2018, starting at 10:00am, in the school hall. We do hope you can join us for that. The Year 6 Graduation Dinner and Year 2-6 Disco will be held on Monday 17 December 2018. The Graduation Dinner is an opportunity for the Year 6 students to reflect on their achievements throughout their primary schooling time and for the school to congratulate and thank the Year 6 students for all of their efforts, and wish them all the very best for High School and their future. The ‘End of Year Student Extravaganza’ will be held on Tuesday 18 December 2018, starting at 1:45pm in the Hall. This promises to be a fun and enjoyable event for everyone as the students reflect on the year with their fellow class members and as an audience, you will appreciate the amazing talent and skills our students have. I encourage you to come along if you can. A reminder that the P & C will be having a Christmas dinner next Tuesday, 18 December 2018 at the Springdale Heights Tavern, starting at 6.30pm. A great opportunity to thank the P & C for their wonderful efforts throughout the year. Next Wednesday 19 December 2018, will be the students and teachers last day. Thank you for your continued support of our fantastic school, great staff and amazing students. Jason Weaven Relieving Principal

Shotput champion - Coban Turnbull Earlier this term our very own Coban Turnbull represented the Riverina at the State Athletics Carnival in Sydney. Coban competed in senior shotput. With a throw of 10.10m Coban broke the existing LEPS record and will now have his name on the honour board in the Hall. Well done Coban.

Introducing our new Principal Dear Parents and Carers of Lavington East PS I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself to the Lavington East PS community. My name is Mrs Nichole Williams and I have been permanently appointed as the new Principal of LEPS. I look forward to this new opportunity and am grateful for this appointment. I am currently the Deputy Principal at Batemans Bay PS and have previously been Acting Principal in this role for over 12 months. Prior to my 7 years at Batemans Bay, I taught in Western Sydney at Liverpool and Villawood. For the rest of this week I will be visiting as I get to know the staff, students and community. I can see there are many exciting programs and frameworks running at LEPS such as PBL and Curiosity and Powerful Learning. I look forward to gaining a greater understanding of the context of the school and its operations as well as building a strong partnership with the school community. The relationship between home and the school plays a very important part in a child’s success at school. “Prepare your child for the path, not the path for your child” – proverb See you then Mrs Nichole Williams

Congratulations to our new School Leaders

Drama @ MHS For the past ten weeks a group of LEPS students have been attending drama classes at Murray High School. The rehearsals finished on 6 December 2018 with a grand performance of the play, ‘Future in the Past’, in front of parents, carers and friends in The Red Shed at MHS. Students’ thoughts on the lessons…. Alicia - I was a hippy and I said, ‘Thanks to the quick thinking of you youngsters we are now safe.” It was really fun doing this and I got a little frightened about speaking in front of an audience but I got over it. Thanks Miss Waugh Phoebe - I was so grateful to get the opportunity to do this. I had the main part. I spoke the most lines and I was a scientist/camp leader. I really en-joyed it. Thank you Miss Waugh. Kritika - I was a hippy in the play and it was so much fun. Isaac - The drama was a fun and exciting new experience. Brian - Thank you Miss Waugh for the fun drama program.
