The Student Union publishes a student-runmagazine, in both English and Hebrew, which serves as a news organ and a forumfor discussion of relevant issues. Useful information on academic and other matters, such as renting apartments, is available at the Union’s office. In addition to organizingcultural and social events, such as the annual Student Day festival, the Unionsponsors peer-based assistance programs to help students cope with academicdifficulties and to address special needs. The IDC Student Union encourages studentsto become involved in the community by sponsoring a variety of volunteer activitiesincluding tutoring Herzliya schoolchildren and holiday visits to the children’s wardsat local hospitals. As part of the IDC Herzliyacommunity, international students are encouraged to take part in all Student Unionactivities.

“When I arrived in Israel at the age of 18 I instantly realized my connection

with the country, the people and my heritage. After having spent 9 months

living and volunteering here I knew that one day I would return. Attending

IDC has allowed me to follow my dreams and ambitions in an inviting

atmosphere, rich in culture, enthusiasm and motivation. In the time I have

spent at the Recanati School I have already made life long friends and had

opportunities I couldn’t have even dreamed of back home.”

“I grew up in Cali, Colombia and moved to Miami, Florida when I was

10 years old. I decided to come to Israel because I have lots of family

here and I truly believe that Israel is the best place to study, experience,

and grow. I wanted something different than the typical experience

in the United States and I succeeded in finding that difference. So far,

IDC has been amazing. The campus is beautiful, the faculty is so eager

to help, and I have made friends from all over the world.”

Studying in an academic institution in Israel is a excellent way for students to becomeacquainted with contemporary Israel and its priorities and trends, as well as with thelong, rich history of the Jewish People. The staff of the Raphael Recanati InternationalSchool feels a responsibility to take students beyond the boundaries of the IDCHerzliya campus and expose them to all that Israel has to offer, from the GolanHeights in the north to the Red Sea in the south. This is done through a variety ofextracurricular activities. They include: fieldtrips; seminars and events in uniquelyIsraeli locations, such as Masada and Jerusalem; hiking trips in the Galilee and theNegev; and becoming better acquainted with Israeli society by volunteering in theHerzliya community. In addition, we supply school tours that are tailor-made forthe students, based on their field of study and interests. Examples of these includetaking the business students to the Tel-Aviv Stock Exchange and to a bankingmuseum, while the communications students get a one-of-a-kind tour to exploreother means of communication which simulate blind and deaf experiences. The school also organizes events and programs on campus, such as the AmbassadorsClub, which teaches Israel advocacy and diplomacy. In addition, a wide range ofsocial events – from barbecues to bike trips to beach parties to formal receptions –bring together international and Israeli students.

P A I R E D F A M I L Y

The Raphael Recanati International School wants international students to feel athome in Israel and to have the opportunity to experience as many facets of Israeli lifeas possible. Thisallows students to experience Israeli life firsthand and enjoy holidays in a familysetting. The Jewish Agency has initiated a special project called Babayit Beyahad/AtHome Together which provides students with an Israeli family based on commonbackground and interests. For more information go to www.jewishagency.org underAliyah & Absorption. Please note that the Jewish Agency has agreed to include allRRIS students in this project and that responsibility for matching students with Israelifamilies is with the Agency.
