On the way to ‘Black’

‘Success is the sum of small efforts - repeated day in and day

out.’ Robert Collier (American Publisher 1876 - 1918)

Congratulations to Ashley Smith (8EDDp) who

has recently gained his ‘First Red-Black Belt’ in

Korean Martial Arts - just one belt away from

Black!

Ashley, who attends the

martial arts club at

Packmoor Scouts Hut on

Tuesdays, Thursdays and

Sundays, is now hoping to

gain his black belt by the

end of the year.

Winning Ways

On Thursday 20th March 2014 the GCSE Hospitality &

Catering group visited Wheelock Hall, an organic farm near

Crewe.

During the visit the students

gained a vast amount of

knowledge about food nutrition

and production. On their way

back to the academy they also

called in at Waitrose in Sandbach

to look at the Fiona Cairns and

Patisserie Valerie displays to help

provide inspirational ideas for their

project work!

A short tale called ‘The Hitchhiker’ by Roald Dahl was read

in instalments by teachers throughout World Book Day and

students had to answer questions related to it in order to

win a prize. The winner, Nikita

Hancock (9NAWP) pictured here

said, ‘I liked the story that was read.

I think that it was a good idea

because it might encourage

students to read the book the story

came from.’

During National Storytelling Week, in

order to win a prize students were

challenged to write a short story of their own consisting of

no more than 365 words. The competition winners, Holly

Condliffe (AJHc) and Thomas Turrell (KLLc) both in Year 7

and Emily Tinsley (CWVp) of Year 8, received a sweet treat

(an Easter egg) and a book as a prize.

Maths Puzzle The answer to last week’s puzzle was FIVE . Well done to

Holly Condliffe who has won 50 VIVO Miles. Here’s this

week’s puzzle:

An old Mathematics book contained this

addition sum which had been marked

correct by the teacher.

The three squares in the diagram are where

the paper was so bad I couldn't read them.

What were the three missing numbers?

Email your answer, with the subject line: Weekly Maths

Puzzle to Mrs V Riley [email protected]

The winner will be picked and announced in the next copy

of the newsletter. Remember there are 50 Vivo Miles to be

won!
