Introduction

Disabilities Awareness Week Mission

• Aims to promote understanding of the issues facing individuals with disabilities, particularly in obtaining adequate health care • It can also address the challenges

facing disabled medical students, physicians, and other health care providers

General Topics• Physical disabilities• Intellectual disabilities• Developmental disabilities• Psychological issues, i.e. depression• Population: general population,

medical/dental students, physicians, dentists, or anyone in the medical community

Preparation

Scheduling• Pick a date few months in advance• Check no conflicting events• Reserve auditorium and/or room

as well as increase awareness of the challenges many people with disabilities face.”

• Brief biography of speaker:“For our first presentation Dr. Wichansky is here to share with his stories of

growing up with and triumphing over the effects of cerebral palsy.  Dr. Wichansky is an accomplished motivational speaker who has inspired

audiences from athletes in the Special Olympics to government representatives at the United Nations. His nonstop humor and touching

stories will be sure to inspire us all. Please join me in welcoming Dr. Wichansky.”
