ERIKA KNUTSSON, SWEDENFor as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to travel to Canada so an academic exchange seemed to be the perfect fi t for me. When looking through the list of Canadian universities, I immediately fell for the nature surrounding Lakehead University. Lakehead is a very friendly place, and I was always made to feel welcome here. If you are considering an exchange to Lakehead, don’t hesitate – just go! My exchange at Lakehead was a truly Canadian experience.

CLAIRE THIEBAUT, FRANCEI came to Lakehead University from France through the ORA exchange program to complete the last year of my bachelor’s degree in International Affairs. One thing I appreciated was the availability of the professors to answer my questions both in and out of the classroom. This exchange helped me further my knowledge, especially because many of the courses I took involved topics that were new to me, such as the Canadian First Nations or Canada’s political system. There are many opportunities on campus and in the city of Thunder Bay to discover the rich Northwestern Ontario culture!

HOW TO APPLYIf you wish to apply to study abroad at Lakehead University, follow these three easy steps. Once you have completed the application process, we will contact you with more information.

NOMINATIONYou must be nominated to Lakehead University by your home institution or exchange coordinator. You must have your home co-ordinator complete and submit the Nomination Form, and send it to: studyabroad@lakeheadu.ca

APPLYAfter submitting the Nomination Form, please complete and submit the Incoming Exchange Application Form. For Fee-Paying Graduate Exchange Students, please complete and submit the Study Abroad Application Form for Graduate Students. Submit these forms to: studyabroad@lakeheadu.ca

SUBMIT YOUR SUPPORTING DOCUMENTSAlong with these forms, you must also submit two supporting documents to studyabroad@lakeheadu.ca: an offi cial copy of your academic transcripts; and a letter of attestation from your home institution stating that you are profi cient in the English language. For Graduate (Masters) Fee Paying Exchange students, you must also submit proof of degree.

AIRPORT PICK UP SERVICELakehead International welcomes all new exchange students by arranging transportation from the airport to Residence upon your arrival. Once you accept your Offer of Admission, you will be sent a Welcome Package with information on how you can register for this free service.

EXCHANGE STUDENT ADVISING Lakehead University is dedicated to supporting you throughout your stay at Lakehead. Our International Student Advisors are always available to assist, advise, and address any questions or issues you may have about course registration, housing, the campus, community, and more.

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT ORIENTATIONInternational Student Orientation provides you with valuable information to help you transition smoothly to university life and Canadian culture. Orientation will help you navigate Lakehead University and learn more about campus and community support systems, while getting involved and making new friends.

LAKEHEAD INTERNATIONAL PEER MENTOR PROGRAM The Lakehead International Peer Mentor program pairs up experienced international and domestic Lakehead University students with a small group of new international and exchange students. Your Peer Mentor will act as a friend and a guide to you throughout your semester at Lakehead University. Along with introducing you to campus life and the city, your Peer Mentor will provide you with advice and referrals, host exciting events, and connect you with other students from all over the world!

INTERNATIONAL STUDENT EVENTS Lakehead International hosts a variety of engaging student events throughout the year. Each term we host a Study Abroad Day, in which incoming exchange students can promote their home country and university to prospective Lakehead students. New to Lakehead University International is the beautiful International Student Lounge. A perfect meeting place for students, the Lounge is equipped with lots of entertainment such as TVs, Xboxes, computers, a coffee bar, and more!
