STUDY ABROAD FOR
CHST STUDENTS
When You Should Go:CHST has developed pathways to guide students towards the ideal time to study abroad. Work closely with your academic advisor to determine the timeline that will work best for your program of study.
Why should CHST students study abroad?• Gain insight into global health issues and how they are approached and solved throughout the world.• Broaden your perspective on health and wellness by critically examining health care systems in other countries, and learn how diversity and cultural influences impact health care solutions.• Develop inter-cultural and cross-communication skills that will allow you to stand out when applying to jobs, graduate schools and research programs.• Learn how to relate to a diverse population of people – a skill that is in high demand from employers in health care fields.

“I chose to study abroad because I've always had a desire to travel to Africa and help others. I am interested in getting my master's in Public Health as well as joining the Peace Corps so it was a great way to dip my foot in the water. On the program, we used geographic information systems to map the refugee camp which is a great tool that I may use in future work. This was the first time I have traveled outside of the United States and it really opened my eyes up to new culture.”
Planning ahead is important. It is suggested to plan between six months to one year in advance to ensure proper academic, financial and application planning.
