01 SignS of Summer by Julia martinI photographed these beach huts in South Africa. I wanted to take a different approach to these much-photographed subjects. A raised promenade gave the vantage point I needed to obtain symmetry, plus a band of sand and sea. As the light was bright I used a polarizing filter, along with a 10-stop neutral density filter to slow the water.

02 Blue and white By Joana KruseThe photo was taken in Greece, on the island Santorini. I was, of course, there to photograph the famous views and colourful houses. I spotted this white house, with its inviting terrace, and I was attracted to the strong contrast of white and blue. The little white boat added to the composition. The scene expressed summer, relaxation, heat and sun, and is a symbol for Greece for me.

03 suriya sunset By aaron FioraI was in Sri Lanka for a job. At the end of a long day I managed to get five minutes to myself and have a beer by the pool, where I got this amazing sunset. Sunsets happen fast in Sri Lanka at that time of year – around 90 seconds is all you get to capture something awesome! The finished image is pretty close to the original. All I added was a graduated filter to the sky in Lightroom to add some more red.

04 decK chairs By david BaKerI spotted these deckchairs sitting in sun at Beer beach in Devon while on holiday last year. I was immediately drawn to the colours of the deckchairs against the blue sky. I made a couple of tweaks in Lightroom to bring out the colour, and I’m very pleased with result.

05 Beach By Melinda nagyThis shot was taken in Thassos, Greece. It is a small, secluded beach, reachable only on foot and close to the better-known and overcrowded Aliki beach. What caught me was the familiar atmosphere of the small bay, and of course the interesting perspective from above.

06 suMMer Fun By Froi riveraThis photo was taken in Pulilan River, in the Philippines. These kids were taking a dip on the river on a hot, sunny day. While playing, some of the boys would climb up on a tree and jump into the water.

07 lazy day By adrian caMpFieldThis is the beach at Hastings on the east Sussex coast – I often go there because of the great photo opportunities that are available. On this particular day, these three OAPs were relaxing in deckchairs enjoying the afternoon sun. What I really love about this image is the walking stick that was hanging over the back of one of the deckchairs. I also love taking silhouetted subjects with the sun in front, and this one ticked all those boxes…

08 playing By chee Keong liMThis was taken in Indonesia when I was on vacation with my family. I knew this area was a popular place for photographers to shoot, so decided to visit. There were a few kids splashing each other and having a great time and I just wanted to capture the moment.

09 enJoy suMMer By sandi BertoncelJWe spent a family summer holiday in Viganj, Croatia, which is a well-known windsurfing spot. Each afternoon the wind starts to blow, and the sea between the Pelješac peninsula and the island of Korcula becomes very crowded with kitesurfers. My aim was to capture a surfer’s silhouette as he jumped.
