Jakob basson Stw exercise 2 Selected Hub function –Shelter 1 Architectural idea and concept Considering the brief and its requirements, i decided the most appropriate solution would be a multifunctional and expandable system that could be adapted according to the location and requirements of each individual site. Therefore a modular system was initiated that would adresse the following possibilities. Different terrain and soil conditions. Including and excluding different views, weather conditions and protection and against the elements Multi functionality. Various expandable possibilities,to serve its functional purpose with caution to economic umplications via the possibilities to expand only if neces- sary and only implicating components as required. A structure of aesthetical proportions to fit in with any environment. Ease of transportability of components and instalment 2.Space The nature of the modular system created is flexibility that allows an arrangement odcf various open and enclosed spaces as required. The space needed to be aducate to its purpose but have a feeling of being sheltered from its surroundings but not excluded from it.The Floor and roof com- ponent serves as a host to the workstation which could be arranaged to enclosed or open up the space. They could also be arranged so that back plane of the stations becomes exhibition spaces. The workstation in itself became a defined sitting/working space withing the hub no matter what its arrangement may be. 3.Form and function The structure consist out of components that forms a module. The floorplan of the module was required to have the ability to be connected together in any direction around the brickcore to accommodate various layouts.squares or rec- tangles worked best for this.seeing that the core was square and the materials at hand most appropriately to the floor surface was the marine ply sheets, which is a rectangle based on a 1:2 ratio.which i wanted to use as is to minimise labour etc.i placed them together until the floor surface was functional to the required ergonomics and circulation required.therefore the module adapted a rectanglular shape on a 1:2 ratio that served the purpose of the above mentioned.this was the informant to the remaning elements of the structure with regards to functionality and thus the rectangular shape of the module was created. Technology. The technology needed to be unsophistaced and the structure needed to be installed with Basic skills but serve its functional purpose whilst being aesthicly pleasing with other words Designer D.I.Y.
