Judging by the plethora ofRoyal Weddings and extraracing fixtures that have beenannounced Get Ahead Hatswill have another bumper year!

Taking the Royals into contextfirst, Get Ahead Hats has quite ahead-start here (sorry about thepun) having supplied millineryfor summer and winter, racingand wedding styles to KateMiddleton and her family forsometime. Remember thewedding pictures of William &Kate in the press after the

Is 2011 going to be the year of the hat?engagement announcement –guess who encouraged, advisedand supplied it – ourexceptional quality and superbrange of hats backed up byexperienced andknowledgeable milliners cannotbe beaten.

Petite does not mean unseen, smaller ‘Percher’ styles are allthe rage for the coming seasonand work well with the longerhairstyles on the younger setand yet give height andelegance to Mother of the brideand the less outgoing amongus. Let’s be honest about this, making an entrance anywherecan be daunting and getting itjust right at your daughter’swedding or attendinghusband’s corporate day at theraces needs a lot of confidenceand this is where the right hatcan really make it on the day.

A few points to think aboutwhen choosing a hat –■ Always try a hat on with the

outfit you intend to wear –there are 100’s of hats in eachof Get Ahead’s showrooms

■ Try lots of styles and variouscolours, a different shade tothe outfit may be look better

■ Always have the hat fitted –that means it should feelsecure and you can forgetabout it!

■ It’s no longer imperative tomatch up hat, shoes andhandbag although itsometimes can look greatand can ‘dress up’ a plainoutfit

■ See the hat and outfit fromall angles, particularly fromthe back

■ Always wear heels the sameheight as you intend to wearon the day

■ Hire it/buy it or have onemade – make your choiceonce you have decided onthe style bearing in mindhow many times you arelikely to wear it and howgood the colour match is.

■ Don’t forget that Get AheadHats can design and make toyour requirements – theimpossible we can oftenachieve quickly but miraclestake a little longer!

On reflection 2011 IS going tobe the year of the hat – ournew season’s styles andfabrics will make it so!

SURI by AuroraThis sophisticated coolie hat withbasket weave sinamay brim is typicalof the styles being chosen by fashionconscious wedding guests this year.Worn at an angle, it flatters most faceshapes and features a largestatement bow and quills.Exclusive to Get Ahead Hats

Looking Gorgeous On Your Wedding DayYour wedding day makeup is one ofthe most important parts of yourbridal image.

If using a make up artist - Schedule atrial well in advance. A good makeupartist will ask you to bring the photo ofyour wedding dress to get a sense of

your style and wouldask you for the

swatches of yourbridesmaids

dresses, to get anidea about yourcolor theme.

A goodprofessionalwill takeyour beforeand afterphotos forreference,

and will drawyour face chart. She will bring

both to yourwedding toreplicate thelook exactly.

Make sure your makeup looks lightand natural. Bridal makeup shouldhave a “classic” touch to it, so whenyou look at your photos 20 years fromnow, you would still admire the wayyou looked on your wedding day.Avoid “trendy” looks like “smoky eye”or green or blue eye shadows – theywill look dated in a couple of years!

If you decide to do your ownmakeup, make sure to have a privatemakeup lesson scheduled with a topmakeup artist prior to the wedding.Have a lesson way in advance so youhave time to practice, and bring yourtrusted Maid of Honor to the lessonso she would know what to do toassist you on your Big Day.

Heavy makeup will make you looknot like a bride, but like a showgirl. You don’t want that to happen.Heavy foundation will start crackingin a couple of hours. Make sure yourmakeup artist uses only light and“breathable” kind of foundation, soyou won’t even feel it on your face.

Eyes look gorgeous when emphasizedwith eyelash extensions – this is a

classic look and it photographsextremely well. As opposed to fakeeyelashes, eyelash extensions look sonatural, they are impossible to detect. They do not require an extra coating ofmascara, and they do not require aheavy eyeliner – they emphasize youreyes enough to make you lookgorgeous without looking fake.

Use only Translucent powder on yourwedding day to keep away shine andkeep your makeup going. WhyTranslucent? Any other powder willkeep darkening your face with eachapplication. Have the powder in yourbag along with a soft powder brush. Here is the list of makeup items youhave to have handy on your weddingday to look gorgeous till the end ofyour wedding:

Don’t forget to have these MakeupItems in your “Wedding Day SurvivalKit” for touch-ups and minor repairs:

◆ Translucent Powder◆ Powder Brush ◆ Lipstick ◆ Lip Liner ◆ Lip Gloss ◆ Mascara ◆ Eye Liner ◆ Q-tips ◆ Kleenex

tissues ◆ Blush

Good luck andenjoy yourwedding!

Flowers complete a wedding occasionFlowers beautify a weddingceremony as well as thewedding reception. Whether itis a simple wedding or a grandand fabulous nuptial, therewould surely be flowers such asin the bridal bouquet, corsages, boutonnieres, centerpieces andconfetti.

Flowers are an indispensable partof the wedding, it follows thatflowers be included in the weddingbudget and preparation. Somecouple with the help of familymembers or friends decide onarranging the flowers bythemselves but as there are otherthings to be done for a wedding, itwould be a smarter choice tosimply hire a florist to take the jobof floral necessities andarrangements for the big day.

Set a meeting with a florist of yourchoice and prior to theappointment date, make sure thatyou have prepared some necessarydetails to facilitate you in yourinquiries -- your wedding colors, the number of your attendants andof course your budget for theflowers.

There are seasonal flowers whichyou may want to choose for theiravailability, durability and lesscost.

● For Spring, flowers in season areapple and cherry blossoms, daffodils, hyacinth, iris, lilies, lilacs, pansies, peonies andtulips.

● Summer blooms are calla lilies, dahlia, daisies, geraniums, hydrangeas, iris, larkspur,

Queen Anne’s lace, roses, sunflowers and zinnias.

● Flowers readily available duringfall season are asters, chrysanthemums, gerberadaisies, marigolds, roses andsunflowers.

● Winter flowers are camellias,forget-me-nots, jasmine, orchidsand poinsettias.

● Flowers which are available allyear round are tuberoses, stephanotis, snapdragon,September aster, roses, protea, lilies, iris, gladiolus, Gerber daisy, gardenia, freesia, orchid, daisy, chrysanthemum, cattleman, carnation and baby’s breath.

You may also want to consider theprice of these flowers in order tomake for a workable budget.Expensive flowers include lily-of-the-valley, orchids, peonies, magnolia, gardenia and hydrangea.Less costly selection of flowers arelavender, roses, daisies andcarnations.

If cost of flowers is a big concern, one useful tip is to use locally grownblooms. Flowers which are importednormally cost high as there wouldbe fees for importation, shipping, storage and other necessary stuffs totransport the flowers to differentlocations and have to remain freshand not tattered.

1. The BudgetYou need to establish early

on what your wedding budget is.Will either set of parent becontributing financially to thewedding? Ideas of roughly howmany guests will be attending needto be considered at this early stage,as the size of the event will have abig impact on the cost.

2. The CeremonyAs soon as you know what dateyou are aiming for, you should findout about the venue and personnelfor the ceremony. For a churchwedding in particular you shoulddiscuss your wedding with thepriest or vicar as soon as possible.Even civil ceremony venues canhave long waiting lists.

3. Wedding InsuranceThis is worth considering,

especially if you are planning aparticularly expensive wedding. Inthe unfortunate event that youhad to postpone, you could end uppaying for everything twice!Wedding insurance can removethat worry.

4. Wedding Reception PlanningSpend some time beforehandjotting down your requirementsand priorities, then visit a numberof venues before you make yourfinal choice.

5. FlowersThese will need to be booked wellin advance, especially if you areplanning a wedding on a budgetand wish to shop around andperhaps do some of the flowerarranging yourself.

6. Wedding Music You may wish to select music forboth the ceremony venue and thereception venue. Many people hirea live band for the latter.

7. PhotographyIf you are planning a wedding ona budget you may wish to considerasking around for friends offriends who do weddingphotography.

8. InvitationsAllow extra time depending onhow nicely you want topersonalize them. Hand writtencalligraphy invitations arebeautiful, if time consuming, so ifyou have a friend or relativewilling to volunteer you shouldjump at the offer!

9. Wedding DressAs well as the Groom’s outfits, bridesmaids, plus ushers orpageboys if you will have them.

10. Wedding CakeAgain, book well in advance or ifyou are lucky enough to have oneof the mothers cooking it for youmake sure that you discuss thesize and decoration early on.

11. RingsAgain, you may be surprised at thetime it takes to both decide on the

rings and potentially have themordered in the right sizes. Visit ajewelers early on in the planning.

12. Wedding Gift ListGive some thought as to whetheryou are going to have a traditionalwedding gift list, or somethingmore modern like a note to theeffect that “We want your presencenot your presents," as somecouples do these days.

13. TransportNot only from the church to thereception venue, but also transportarrangements for guests - and veryimportantly your travel plans forthe honeymoon!

The importance of planningahead for your wedding can’t beover-emphasized. The bestwedding planning tip is simply:Be Organized!

Planning is the key to success for a smooth wedding. Planning can’t start too early! Here is a wedding planning list to get you started on your wedding plan:

The Swan at Hay is the perfect setting for a wedding. With Georgian elegance, romantic gardens and anexcellent kitchen, we work closely with you to ensure thatyou have a wonderful day.

Licenced for civil ceremonies, we can accommodate up to 80 people in The GardenRoom, while The Coach House Suite can accommodate up to 120 guests for the weddingbreakfast. This is also a great location for an evening party, with its dance floor, well-stocked bar and access to the garden. With 17 en-suite bedrooms, guests can also stayovernight. Why look anywhere else?

- Licences for civil ceremonies- up to 120 people for a sit down meal- full wedding co-ordination assistance and toast master

services included - romantic gardens, ideal for photos- delicious food, with pre-wedding tasting evenings- all inclusive packages available- many years’ experience in organising weddings and parties- relaxed and welcoming atmosphere - wonderful feedback from previous wedding guests

Transport for the big dayIt is a good idea to bear in mindthe distance to the venue fromyour home when deciding whichform of transport to use.

THERE'S nothing quite likestepping out of a gleaming RollsRoyce or Bentley to create animpression on your arrival atchurch, but a vintage car or horsecarriage will also create a stir.

It's usual to have two cars - one foryou and your father and one foryour mum and bridesmaids but onemay be enough for a smallerwedding.

Book early especiallyif you are gettinghitched in thesummer months.

If you are having your wedding andreception at the same venue youmay not need cars at all - one area

where savings can be made.

Remember itis the best

man’sresponsibility

for gettinghimselfand thegroomto the

ceremony on time and is probably, together with looking after therings, his most important duty.

They should arrive approximatelyhalf an hour before the bride andbridesmaids. They would normallyarrive in the best man’s car, thegroom’s own car or by taxi.

Unless you are having a CivilCeremony and are marrying in thesame place as your reception, youwill need your transport to take youboth to the reception and a secondvehicle for your bridesmaids.

It is not uncommon for the bride’smother/parents to accompany the

bridesmaids.

A wedding is a once in a lifetime event, the next chapter in your journey.

When you’re planning your wedding, yourphilosophy on wedding photography andyour choice of wedding photographer isarguably the most critical decision youwill make throughout the entire weddingplanning process.

You may have spent many years ormonths imagining your perfect day fromhow you will feel; The anticipation ofgetting ready, the walk down the aisle, themoment you say I do, to the finer details; What sort of wedding will it be? A springwedding full of fresh blooms or the

warmth of a Summer wedding, maybea crisp Autumn, or a Winter wedding

with all that sparkles. Whichever itis, your wedding will be unique

to you and we believe this isthe way your photography

should be.

After all, what other part of your weddingwill still be around 30 years from now, inthe form of formal wedding portraitshanging in your home and in yourwedding album, which will be lookedthrough by visitors to your home for yearsto come! These are the pictures that willshow your future children what yourwedding day was like, you definitely wantto choose a wedding photographer that istalented, professional, and employs a styleand aesthetic that is compatible with yourpersonality as a couple.

I will make it my business to get to knowyou; whether you are you openly romanticor more reserved, fun loving or looking forsomething a little more edgy. Whateveryour personality type, I will look tophotograph your wedding to suit yourpersonalities, and not how a photographerwould like your day represented.

Of course I will offer advice and guidance, after all photographing weddings is what Ido and having been privileged to share inmany weddings and ceremonies over theyears, I certainly have a lot of experienceto share!

Beginning with our initial discussiondeciding how you would like the day torun, I strive to be as accommodating aspossible. I will speak with you before andafter your big day, to ensure that you arekept well informed of what to expect fromme. On the day, you will have myundivided attention, enabling me to get athorough coverage of the day - from themagical moments as the bride prepares, tothe vibrancy and excitement of the eventitself. I aim to offer you variety and tailormy services to suit your personalpreferences.

The order of speeches is traditionallyas follows:

The father of the bride - usually talks fondly abouthis daughter. As with most speeches, it is acceptedthat a mixture of affectionate anecdote andhumour generally works well. He then toasts thebride and groom.

The groom speaks next - and replies on behalf ofhimself and his wife [in these modern times itshould be remembered that more and more bridesare making their own speeches*]. He aims to thankthose people involved in helping them both in theplanning of the wedding and distributes gifts tothose who are to receive more than a verbal “thankyou." The groom then may talk about his new wifebefore proposing a toast to the bridesmaids

*If the bride is to make a speech it should takeplace following the groom’s. It may seem obvious, but joint speeches should be co-ordinated wellbeforehand since both will probably wish to saymuch the same thing.

The best man’s speech now follows - He thanksthe bride and bridegroom on behalf of thebridesmaids and himself for asking them to bepart of their special day and for the gifts they havereceived and then he reads out telegrams, cards, e-mails or other messages from friends and relativeswho couldn’t be at the wedding. He will then goon to talk about thegroom in what can bethe highlight, or insome cases lowlight,of the weddingspeeches. Humourand anecdoteabound. Finally thebest man should thenpropose a toast to theparents of the brideand bridegroom.

A modern trend isalso for themaid-of honorto make aspeech.

Runaway Bride – Julia Roberts starsin this romantic comedy. Her characteris so afraid of commitment, she keepsleaving her groom(s) at the altar.Costar Richard Gere plays the manwho finally marries her. Naturally –because who in her right mind couldturn Richard Gere away? In real life,Julia Roberts is now married tocameraman Daniel Moder. Herprevious marriage was to Lyle Lovett;director Garry Marshall gave her awayduring that wedding.

The Marrying Man – Neil Simonwrote this screenplay and AlecBaldwin starred as the man whomarried the same woman four times.Kim Basinger plays a sultry loungesinger who is a mobster’s girlfriend, which prevents her from marrying theman she really loves. In real life, Alecand Kim fell in love on the set of thismovie and married, but later divorcedin 2002. This is one of the bestwedding movies of all time because ofthe romance both on and off the set.

The Wedding Singer – Adam Sandlerstars in this movie about a weddingsinger who was jilted at the altar, andwho becomes the world’s worstwedding singer. Drew Barrymore isSandler’s costar. In real life, Barrymoremarried bartender Jerry Thomas whenshe was 19. She later marriedCanadian Tom Green. This is an edgyaddition to this list of the bestwedding movies of all time – and it’lldefinitely help you destress whileachieving your wedding goals!

The Wedding Planner – JenniferLopez plays a wedding planner whofalls in love with the fiancé of herclient. Matthew McConaughey costarsin this romantic comedy. In real life,Lopez was married twice before shemarried Ben Affleck. Now she’s withsomeone new – but I can’t keepup! McConaughey has never married.I wouldn’t have chosen The WeddingPlanner as one of the best romanticcomedies or wedding movies of alltime, but you can’t argue with AccessHollywood. And, I do admit that TheWedding Planner will help youdestress while planning your wedding.

Muriel’s Wedding – Australianactress Toni Collette stars in thisCinderella story about a dream cometrue. It’s not just a romantic comedybecause it deals with suicide, cancer, and following your heart. Even thoughit doesn’t feature major movie stars, itis definitely one of the sweetest, mosttouching romantic Hollywood films –which makes it one of the

best wedding movies of all time.

Father of the Bride – Steve Martinand Diane Keaton star in this romanticcomedy, which is a remake of theoriginal Father of the Bride staringSpencer Tracy. Martin Short is thewedding planner in the movie, and hesteals the show. Kimberly Williamsplayed the bride-to-be in Father of theBride. This is a wedding movie thatfocuses more on the parents of thebride than the bride herself….makingit a great choice for the parents of thehappy couple!

My Big Fat GreekWedding – Based on thereal life experiences of NiaVardalos, a Greek Winnipeg-based actress, this romanticcomedy was originally a one-woman play. Tom Hanks’ wifeRita convinced Hanks to makethe movie; he had to convinceVardalos to put more kissing andmake out scenes in the movie. It’sdefinitely one of the funniest, most culturally focused of thesewedding movies.

My Best Friend’s Wedding –Another Julia Roberts movie; shecostarred with Cameron Diaz andDermot Mulroney. Roberts isdetermined to put a stop to her bestfriend’s wedding (Mulroney ismarrying Diaz in the movie). In aninterview about this movie, Robertssaid a wedding should be “a party tosay we all believe in this love.” DirectorP.J. Hogan said this movie has aShakespearian feel.

The Graduate – The oldest movie inthis list of the best wedding movies ofall time, The Graduate is based one ofthe most famous affairs in film history.Anne Bancroft and Dustin Hoffman

star in this movie, which wasHoffman’s third film. He made itwhen he was a struggling actor. Aclassic scene was when Hoffman’scharacter stopped Bancroft’sdaughter’s wedding – a scene thathas been spoofed in Wayne’sWorld and The Simpsons.

Four Weddings and a Funeral –Starring Hugh Grant and AndieMacdowell, this is one of the highestgrossing British romantic comedies in

their history. Four Weddingsmade Hugh Grant a star

overnight. AndieMacdowell stepped intothe role just two weeksbefore filming, after

original actress droppedout. Four Weddings is oneof Julia Roberts’ favoritemovies. According to

Access Hollywood, this isnumber one on their list of

the best wedding movies ofall time.

IF you’re getting married in a venuelicensed for weddings, then theceremony and reception could be heldat the same location - problem solved.

However, if you’re tying the knot in achurch or registry office, ideally you’llneed to find somewhere reasonablyclose by. If you’re looking to save money, consider a place where you can bring inyour own caterers and drink.

Thorough research is the key to success,so ask around for personalrecommendations, look in books andmagazines, scour wedding websitesto get ideas for your ownindividual taste.

Ring around for quotations, comparerates and visit a number of the placesthat appeal. Finally, don’t forget to bookearly.

Once you have decided on the type ofwedding you would like, one veryimportant factor is what type ofreception to have. Some choose thehotel function room, others choose amarquee, some decide to rent the localvillage hall.

Whichever you decide, take into accountyour budget, the number of guests,

location (not too far from theceremony), informal or formal, sit

down orbuffet.

■ Book well in advance to avoiddisappointment.

■ Most receptions begin with anaperitif either champagne, sherry, orfruit for the non-drinkers

■ A formal wedding has a ‘line up’,usually the bride’s parents, thebridegroom’s parents, the bride andgroom, bridesmaids, ushers and thebest man to greet their guests.

A traditional table plan for yourreception would normally be as follows:● Chief Bridesmaid● Groom’s Father● Bride’s Mother § Groom● Bride● Bride’s Father● Groom’s Mother● Best Man

Table decorations can consist of flowers, balloons, streamers, ribbons, candles etc.Try and colour co-ordinate your tablesfor added flair.

One very nice idea is to have disposablecameras foryour guests, so they can capture thatspecial moment.

The Reception Venue... Catering...Catering will account for a bigslice of your budget so carefulplanning is essential.

Firstly, you'll need to decide whetheryou want a formal sit down meal or abuffet. A sit down meal requires youto work out a seating plan, but guestsoften find their own places with abuffet. Itemise any specialrequirements that you or your guestsmay have, such as vegetarian, veganor kosher diets, then take yourspecifications to a number ofsuppliers and compare menus andquotes.

You may be offered the opportunityto taste a selection of dishes, whichwill give you an idea of the qualityavailable. If you've opted for a buffet, don't forget to err on the side ofgenerosity to make sure there'splenty for everyone.

Don’t forget that an experiencedcaterer can also give you ideas withyour reception budget and help youwith the seating plan so the ‘traffic’moves smoothly in the venue youhave chosen. You should startinterviewing caterers 7-12 months inadvance of your wedding.

Your wedding will not be completewithout the cake! The number ofguests will help determine the size ofcake required, although you mayhave already made up your mindexactly what you want. You maywant a traditional tiered cake withflowers to match your bouquet or youmay have a particular passion forsomething that can be created, whatever, a good cake designer canbe very artistic and should listen toyour individual requirements.

Ask to see photographs of the cakesthey have designed, so you can checkout the quality, their creativity andget ideas. Do remember that thecake should have a table of its own sothat people and the photographercan get a good view of you cuttingthe cake.

In providing your own drinks checkwhether the reception venue chargescorkage and if you have to hireglasses.

The wearing of bridal weddingrings is a tradition that spansback centuries, and in moderntimes the choice of bands isgreater than ever. Demand formore elaborate, exciting andunique wedding rings havebrought about a plethora ofdifferent styles onto the market, and deciding which one tochoose can prove tricky.

Bridal wedding rings are stylishpieces of female jewellery thatsymbolise marriage and reflect thewearer’s personality. They shouldbe practical, fit in with lifestyle, andbe comfortable at the same time. But unlike the male wedding ring, where the gents have a totally freechoice, there is one thing that willdictate the shape and style of thewedding ring more than any otherfactor - the engagement ring.

On a ladies ring finger theengagement ring should be thereal star of the show with thewedding ring complimenting andshowcasing it to the best of its

ability. This is not to say that bridalwedding rings need be dull, butsimply that they should work withthe engagement ring, not againstit. The two rings should look andfeel like they were destined to betogether and it is essential that youchoose your wedding ring withthis in mind.

In order to choose a wedding ringwhich engances the appearance ofan engagement ring, rather thanovershadowing it, thereare three elements thatevery bride-to-beshould consider veryclosely - the bandshape, band style andband width. Let’s lookat each one in turn.

Bridal Wedding RingShapeThe first factor to consider iswhether you can opt for a straightedged wedding ring, or if you needto incorporate a unique shape to

allow the wedding ring and theengagement ring to sit togetherperfectly. The best way todetermine what you’ll need is totake a closer look at yourengagement ring.

Try laying it on a table, does it layflat? If it does, you’re OK to opt fora straight edged band. If not, youmay still be able to, but you’ll needto look even closer to determine

what is causing thering to not lay flat.

In the majority ofcircumstances thiswill be the gemstone,so you should assesswhether the stone israised sufficiently toallow a further ring tosit under it, but not beimpeded. If you are in anydoubt, ask a jeweller -

they will be more than happy toadvise, or try on a range of bridalwedding rings with differing bandsto see for yourself.

Bridal Wedding Ring StyleWhen it comes to the style of bridalwedding rings, in order to achievea ‘perfect set’ you should look tochoose a band style identical tothat of your engagement ring. Thisis not to say that claddagh, puzzleor other ornate bands won’t work, merely that choosing a similarlystyled band will help to emphasiseand enhance the togetherness‚ ofthe rings.

For most, the choice will be one ofthree - high domed, flat and softlyrounded. To help determine whichis the one for you, again lay yourengagement ring on its side and, focussing on the band, assess whatit looks like:

A ‘C’ shape indicates a ‘high domed’ ringA ‘)‘ shape indicates a ‘flat’ ringA ‘[‘ shape indicates a ‘softly rounded’ ring

Whatever wedding ring youchoose, make sure that youstamp your style on it, but neverlose sight of the fact that theengagement ring at any time.
