• Remember the Club is for your recreation. Make it enjoyable and assist the promotion of harmony and good fellowship by observance of etiquette and rules, both on the course and in the Clubhouse.
• Before teeing off, it is your obligation to be conversant with the conditions of play by reading the notice board and your fixture book.
• Not more than four players shall hit off together in any event, unless otherwise stipulated by the Committee.
• Replace your divots and repair lob marks on greens. • When leaving bunkers, smooth out your foot and club marks. Rakes are to be left
in the side of the bunkers pointing in the direction of play. • Do not place your bag on the green nor pull your buggy across the green. When
holding the flag stick in the cup, do so at full arm’s length. Do not drop the flag stick and, after holing out, replace it carefully.
• If you lose a ball, call the following players through without delay. Having found
your ball do not recommence play until those you have called through are clear or have asked you to carry on.
• Mark your ball with a special marker or a coin placed behind the ball.
• It is desirable that recipients of trophies be in attendance at the presentation for
daily events. • All players are required to carry buckets and fill provided and use the fill in the
repair of divots. • The use of mobile phones on the golf course ( except in the case of an emergency)
is not desirable. • A player must not practice on the competition course before a round or play off
on any day of a stroke play event.(includes Par and Stableford Event. Rule of Golf 5-2b.)
Pace of play requirements
Recommended times for completion of holes as defined by Golf New South Wales:
Par 3’s 11 minutes - Par 4’s 13 minutes and Par 5’s 15 minutesKareela Golf Course has 8 Par 3’s , 9 Par 4’s and 1 Par 5 for MenKareela Golf Course has 7 Par 3’s , 10 Par 4’s and 1 Par 5 for Ladies
A break up to of eight (8) minutes may be taken after 9 holes. Each group should be leaving the Fairway Cafe as soon as possible and before the next group arrives. Please keep up with the group in front of you.
It is the responsibility of the lowest marker in each group to keep up with the group in front, thereby maintaining the required intervals between each group.
The time to complete a round of golf should take no longer than 4 hours 20 minutes including the halfway break.
The Mi-Club system in use at the Club allows the Match Committee to produce a ‘Time per Round Report’ to check the pace of play for each group.
This report uses the Allocated Tee Time and a Finish Time (based on the time the scorecard is entered to record the competition scores) to determine the Round Time ( after allowing 15 minutes between completing the round and returning of scores).
The Match Committee using the Time per Round Report can penalise any group/player losing their place in the field, in accordance with Rule 5-6 Undue Delay / Slow Play. It is also the player’s responsibility to return their scorecard immediately after the round is completed & the scorecard has been checked and signed.
The Match Committee can enforce the following for repeat offenders:
FIRST OFFENCEThe Committee may, in the conditions of a competition, lay down pace of play guidelines and in such a condition modify the penalty for a first offence, in stroke play, to one stroke.
SECOND OFFENCEThe member or members concerned will incur the penalties as above for undue delay as well as being advised in writing they will be limited to using the booking sheets only after 11.30am on Sunday / Wednesday/ Saturday for the following four (4) weeks, depending upon which day the offence took place.
THIRD OFFENCEThe member or members concerned will incur the penalty for undue delay as above. Members will be required to meet with the Match Committee and will lose their playing privileges for a minimum of two (2) weeks.
The above measures may seem harsh, however, in the interest of member’s enjoyment we believe them to be necessary.
Severe weather conditions - thunderstorms and/or lightning.
When play is to be suspended due to severe weather, one (1) prolonged note of siren will sound.
All golfers MUST return to the clubhouse immediately; do not take shelter under trees.
In competitions, players will mark the position of their ball. If the ball(s) are too far away to be marked immediately after the siren has sounded, approximate position should be noted by all players in the group and the ball(s) left there.
Two short notes of the siren will denote resumption of play.
If the player(s) ball or ball marker is moved (including by wind or water) while play is discontinued, a ball or ball marker must be placed on the spot from which the original ball marker was moved.
NOTE: If the spot where the ball is to be placed is impossible to determine, it must be estimated and the ball placed on the estimated spot. Rule 14-2c
YOUR PLACE IN THE FIELD IS BEHIND THE GROUP IN FRONT OF YOU, NOT IN FRONT OF THE GROUP BEHIND YOU

SELFISH PLAY
TIME SHEETS AND CANCELLATIONS
HANDICAPS
In order to allow Members the opportunity to play at preferred times and in preferred groups of four, time sheets are provided to make bookings.
Members using this facility must ensure that they report to the Pro-Shop twenty (20) minutes before their starting time. If unable to play for any reason, you must ring and cancel at least one hour before your booked time.
Failure to report twenty (20) minutes prior may cause you to lose your booked time. Members failing to appear or cancel may be automatically suspended from use of time sheets for a period of no less than three (3) weeks.
TO OBTAIN A GOLF AUSTRALIA HANDICAP:Members must return three (3) 18 hole cards marked by a player who has a current GA Handicap. These three cards must be from rounds played at Kareela. Note: 9 hole scores may be used, however six (6 ) cards must be returned to equate to three (3) 18 hole rounds
A GA Handicap is calculated from a rolling sample (average) of the player’s Best 8 scores in the most recent 20 Actual Scores (Note: the most recent 20 Actual Scores are known as Live Scores)There is no requirement for a player’s Live Scores to have been returned within a specific time frame. Each golf course in Australia has been rated according to the Slope requirements and has been allotted a Slope rating.
The average of the player’s best 8 scores is muliplied by 0.93 to calculate the their GA handicap based on a neutral Slope course rating of 113
Kareela’s slope rating for the Men’s Blue Course is 121Kareela’s slope rating for the Ladies’ Red Course is 115
A player’s Daily Handicap is calculated by multiplying their GA Handicap by the Slope rating of the competition course and dividing the result by the neutral Slope rating of 113.
GA Handicaps maybe adjusted downward and upward after each competition round or other eligible rounds.
It is the players responsibility to check their GA handicap on club records before each competition round. This will be converted to Daily Handicap for the competion of the day under the ‘Slope’ system for handicaps introduced by Golf Australia in January 2014.
