Saul has been competing for Orion since 2012 when as an U11 he competed in his first Orion XC fixture in Chelmsford. Since then he has been a regular competitor at both XC and at Track and Field competing in distances from 800m upwards as well as gaining valuable points for the team at hammer and shot putt. Away from Orion he has also represented the Borough at the London Youth Games and the London Mini Marathon.

Saul is a very regular attendee at training and is very popular within the other athletes and coaches at Orion. When he is not chatting his best training is usually done when there is puppy present as his fear of dogs is a great cause of entertainment for everyone – it certainly makes him focus on his speedwork intervals at the track. He is always very willing to help others at both training sessions and at events such as the 10/10 competition at Lee Valley. He is now one of the Young Coaches at Orion helping with the youngsters on a Tuesday evening and as one of the brightest athletes in the club we expect him to have a very successful future.

For the Jack Petchey award, there can be few more deserving than Jordan Chrisostomou. Jordan deserves this award because in the last two years he has gone from strength to strength as both an athlete and a person. The dedication and adherence he exhibits towards his training has resulted in him significantly improving his athletics times and race performances. This has also resulted in his confidence and love for athletics growing, especially in the last 18 months.Last year, Jordan, as an U15, ran the Virgin Mini London Marathon in a time of 18:40, finishing 102nd out of the London runners. This year, after continuing to train hard, he completed the 3 mile distance in 16:39, 2 minutes (and 1 second) quicker than last year, finishing in 34th place in London, which also made a vital scoring contribution to the Waltham Forest U17 boys team who won the Borough team challenge by 79 points.

Emily started competing at XC for Orion and on the track at the Woodford Open(s) in 2011 as an U11. Since then she hasn’t looked

back and has competed at just about every track and field and XC discipline available. She has represented her school, Orion, the Borough, and the County and has achieved County bronze medals at 150m, 600m, 800m and High Jump, a silver medal at 300m and was the 2014 Essex County Champion at 300m. She has been ranked in the 100 in the country on 11 occasions for different events and in 2013 was ranked 4th in the 200m (indoor) and in the top 20 in both 2014 and 2015 for the 300m (indoor). These ate just a small selection of her achievements.

Emily is a very popular athlete who has combined her natural talent with hard work to achieve a very high level of performance. Emily can be described as a true all rounder whose contribution to Orion at the XC, YAL/YDL cannot be understated.

………………………………………………

Justin has only been with Orion for a couple of years having moved from Bedford but during that time has made an excellent impression at the club by regularly attending training and by being a consistent and reliable participant in the Youth Development League and Southern Athletics League. His main events are 100m (pb 11.67) and 200m (pb 24.2s) but he has also competed in the 80m hurdles high jump, long jump, triple jump, shot putt, hammer and javelin! As a very important squad member he was also part of the Orion 4x100m relay team that broke a 10 year old club record - his Jack Petchey award is well deserved.

Justin will be spending his award on some (thick external) warm up mats, a new measuring wheel and some signage for an U(/U11 race we organise in Epping Forest.

Haider Razzaq was appointed club captain for 2015 and this reflects his reliability and dedication to the cause of Orion. He has taken on the role with enthusiasm and has shown that his appointment was a good decision. At a recent Local Authority Planning meeting Haider made an excellent speech on behalf of Orion to express the interests and concerns of the club in relation to the Planning issue. Whilst encouraging and representing the Juniors he continues to participate at a high level and is currently ranked in the top 100 in the country for 800m indoors and has a ranking for a range of distances from 400m to 5k. He competes for Orion in the Southern Athletics League and the Youth Development League and, as well as the running events, has competed in the steeplechase, shot putt, discus and hammer. A complete all-rounder, Haider thoroughly deserves his award.

Haider will be spending his award on the new ‘RUN, JUMP AND THROW’ resource for our junior coaches.

Thomas Young is a very committed middle distance runner and is a regular attendee at training sessions as part of a very enthusiastic and talented group of middle distance runners. Recently there was a Local Authority Planning issue regarding the facility where the club train. At his own initiative, Thomas demonstrated great

maturity in preparing an online petition that gained many signatories and helped support the arguments presented by the club and other users of the facility. He has UK rankings in the 400m, 800m (ranked 88th indoors) and 1500m. In the last year he has competed for Orion in the Youth Development League, the Southern Athletics League and the Essex XC League and was also selected for, and competed in the Virgin London Mini Marathon.

Thomas’s award will be spent on Medicine balls (5kg and 4kg with handles).

Chaye has been with Orion for three years now and has shown excellent commitment to Orion by regularly attending training and by and being a consistent and reliable participant in the Youth Development League. His main events are 200m (pb 24.1s), 400m and long jump but he has also represented Orion at 100m (pb 13s) and triple jump. He is a very important squad member and just last weekend was part of the Orion 4x100m relay team that broke a 10 year old club record - his Jack Petchey award is well deserved.

Chaye’s award will be spent on three junior coaching courses run by Orion (one completed and two to be arranged – combined with Amy Huke award).

Amy joined Orion initially to gain fitness with the view to compete. After just a short time with the club she found that coaching and team managing the young members is what she enjoys the most. She started by coaching an U11’s group and has recently stepped up an age group and is now coaching over 11’s. Amy has attended a Leading in Athletics First Aid course and is now looking to progress and develop her coaching knowledge by attending as many UKA courses as she can this season. Amy also supports and attends the clubs competition programme around studying for her ‘A’ levels.

Amy’s award will be spent on three junior coaching courses run by Orion (one completed and two to be arranged – combined with Chaye Ugbomah’s award).

Joyce is one of our committed sprinters who trains at least three times a week to improve her 60m (pb 8.7s), 100m (13.81s), 200m (pb 27.9s) and 300m times. She competed in the South of England Championships at 60m and has represented Orion in the Youth Development League at additional events including the shot putt and discus. She is a lively and enthusiastic member of the team and is a deserving recipient of her Jack Petchey award.

Joyce’s award will be spent on two new sets of starting blocks which will be used for both training and events.

…………

Katherine is typical of a small number of athletes at Orion who because of their reliability and consistency are almost taken for granted. She has been training and competing for Orion since 2013

having moved from Woodford Green AC who didn’t offer the variety of events available at Orion. Since joining us she has become one of our true all-rounders being a vital points scorer in the Essex League Cross Country, competing for the seniors in the Southern Athletics League and all of the Youth Development League matches. For three successive years she has also qualified for and competed in the London Mini Marathon. She is also one of the athletes who assists in the coaching of younger athletes on a Tuesday evening. Katherine is a very popular athlete and we are proud to have her training and competing for us at Orion.

Orion will be purchasing 15 vortex mega howlers. Vortex Mega Howlers are a fun way to encourage young children to develop their throwing technique. The foam construction has a dependable flight pattern and built in whistle to create a satisfying noise when thrown correctly. Orion use these for the coaching sessions and also for competitions where they provide an opportunity for children to compete safely in throwing events. The balance of her award will be spent on new balance boards.

Charlotte has only been with Orion for a couple of years but in that time has demonstrated a level of enthusiasm and commitment that has brought her to the attention of everyone who trains and runs with Orion. Despite living in Romford she travels by any means possible to attend the weekly training sessions. Her training covers the full range of event and she has improved to such an extent that in the Youth Development League this year not only did she compete in the discus, hammer and shot putt but also the very technical 75m hurdles. She is also one of the athletes who assists in the coaching of younger athletes on a Tuesday evening.

Charlotte will be purchasing core stability equipment with her award. The selected items comprise 2x training mat, physical stability ball 65cm, dumbell Set 20kg, Stop Watch and a 5kg Medicine Ball.

Josh has been competing for Orion since 2012 and is very committed to training where not only does he work extremely hard for his own benefit (he has achieved personal bests this year in every event) but is very supportive of and popular with the younger athletes he trains with.  He is extremely supportive of our competition programme and this year has competed in just about every junior and senior competition available to him as a member of Orion as well as numerous ‘external’ open meetings. It would probably be easier to say what events he has not competed in such

is the variety of events covered but suffice to say that the range covers 200m to 3000m, relays and steeplechase, High Jump to Javelin and Cross Country in the depths of winter.

Josh would like to purchase 2 x weighted jackets (2x£50) and 2 x medicine balls with handles (2x£50)

…………

Sophie has been competing regularly in for Orion since 2010 in both our winter cross country events and our summer track and field. Originally she was a cross country runner competing in local club events and being selected for the English National Championships in 2012. On the track she has competed in a range of events from 800m, 1500m and 3k and in 2013 took up the pole vault and now competes for Orion in the YDL. Sophie has also volunteered as an official in numerous club events and has also attended and completed the level 1 UKA officials course. Sophie is a young lady that is always happy to support her club.

Despite a number of injury setbacks Hannah persevered and has now been competing for Orion for a couple of years at both cross country (Essex and Chingford leagues) and in the Youth Development League in both track events (800m to 3000m) as well as the discus. Hannah joined the club at 14 years old when most girls are given up on sport. She is a valuable member of the team and is happy to step in and cover any event for team points.

Isobel has only been at the club for a couple of years but since that time has been a very active member of the club being present at just about every training session and competitive event possible. At training she has worked very hard to improve and her range of events and has led her to be competitive in the pentathlon (South of England Championships) as well individual events including 75m hurdles to 1500m (ranked top 25 indoor at 800m), shot putt, long jump, high jump, javelin and more. In such a short time Isobel has become more and more competitive and her enthusiasm and willingness to improve and try anything makes her a worthy winner of this award. Isobel’s recent achievement was she gained 2nd place in the Essex pentathlon champs. The one thing that stands out with Isobel is that she has the commitment, self-discipline and is self- motivated which can been seen in her performance. Isobel has spent her award on a new starting block trolley and a medicine ball trolley, balance cushions, footwork ladders and replenishing training equipment (rubber quoits, starting block bags)

Joss is the perfect example of someone who, having developed as a good cross country and track runner, tried a new event in 2011 – the javelin - and discovered that he was exceptionally good at it. Since then he has trained hard to improve and has competed for the club and county in many competitions achieving numerous personal bests and club records as well as reaching his current national ranking of 14. Despite his focus being on javelin he continues to compete for the club at cross country and competes for the team at the track and field - 800m to 1500m as well as hammer, discus or any events when he is called upon. Joss also volunteers every week and coaches the clubs under 11 athletes. Joss has spent his award on a new marquee, primary (junior) training

Eden is a sprinter and since she started competing has worked very hard in training to improve at distances up to 300m. She regularly competes for Orion in the YDL and is a regular at the Essex Championships. She has national rankings at 60m (outdoor and indoor) and her best ranking is at the Long Jump. Eden has spent her award on starting blocks and bags.

Despite living in a different Borough Jake (and his brother) joined Orion in 2009. The club recognises that it isn’t easy joining a new club when you are already an established athlete however Jake settled well within the training group and is very popular with his peers. When Jake is selected to represent his county he attends the races on his own without his training partners as he competes for Middlesex not Essex. He has competed for Orion in all of the winter cross country leagues and summer track and field YAL/YDL competitions and is able to help the team by covering a wide range of events. Jake has spent his award on power sledges with harnesses, mobile equipment bags and training stopwatches.

………………..

Sian has been with Orion since she was 11 years old – she competes now as an under u15.  Sian is very committed to her sprint training and fully supports our competition programme competing at all distances up to 200m.  Her efforts are reflected in her personal performances which culminated in being ranked 6th in the UK (200m indoors) in 2012.  Sian is popular with and respected by her team mates and the coaches/managers and whilst she competes in individual events she is very much a ‘Team Orion’ player.  Sian is particularly good at helping new/younger members to the group often taking them aside and helping them with the techniques necessary to perform in their events.

Tariq has been with Orion since he was 14 years old – he now competes as an u20) and is very committed to his sprint  training.  He fully supports our competition programme and this year alone has competed in 16 different categories of sprints and throws including 60m sprints, 400m hurdles, 1500m steeplechase and javelin.  His efforts are reflected in his personal performances being ranked 7th in the UK for 110m hurdles (u20).  Tariq has the full respect of his peers (which amongst sprinters has to be well earned!)  and the coaches/managers.  As can be seen from the number of events he competes in Tariq is very much a team player and he was integral in helping Orion to promotion from the UK Youth Development League this year.

Findlay has been with Orion since he was 12 years old – he now competes as an u15.  Findlay is very committed to his sprint training and can be seen out training at the track on even the most

miserable evenings.  He fully supports our competition programme and competed in all of the Youth Development League fixtures for the last couple of years.  His efforts are reflected in his personal performances and he has shown a significant improvement since 2012. Findlay is respected by his peers, coaches and managers and is very much a team player for Orion.

Awards spent on: Agility ladders. Bean bags to replace existing damaged (they are used outdoors and suffer much wear and tear).Sledge and two harnesses. Current storage at Pool and Track is to be changed whilst buildings are redeveloped.  Need portable storage boxes so that contents can be easily moved - these will serve a dual purpose of enabling equipment to be moved about during the works but can also continue to be used when the works are complete to protect and organise storage of the equipment.

Orion organise a number of internal races and events including U9/U11 track races in the Winter (x6) and Cross Country (XC) in the Summer (x6).  Currently there is no equipment (except for stopwatches) used for these events and we have decided to purchase some proper direction signing (with posts) for XC), some finishing tape and some small momentos (wrist bands) for those competing.

……………

Lucy has been a member of Orion Juniors since 2007 and since 2011 has been a regular member of the summer track and field team with her main event being the hurdles at which she became Waltham Forest champion in 2012.  She has also represented Orion and her school in a variety of other events including the sprint distances, relays, long jump, triple jump, high jump, discus and most recently the hammer.  She has also participated in the London Mini marathon and London Youth Games (cycling, cross country and aquathlon).  She is a regular attendee at Orion training sessions as well as having extra coaching at Lee Valley.  She helps the leaders of the younger groups at the Wednesday evening cross country sessions and is popular with the adults and children alike.  She is a very deserving recipient of the Jack Petchey award.

Katie is another long time member of Orion and started competing for Orion in 2010. Whenever there is an Orion, school or regional competition (no matter what the weather or logistics) Katie can usually be found participating in one of the events.  For Orion this is usually the Chingford League and Essex League in the winter and the Young Athletes League (now Youth Development League) in the summer.  Apart from schools competitions there is also the Essex County Championships, London Mini Marathon, Southern Championships and many more.  Her best events are middle distance but she has represented Orion throughout the year at Cross Country, 100m, 150m, 600m, 800m, 1500m, Hurdles, High Jump, Long Jump, Shot Putt and Pentathlon.  Katie trains very hard

and is a very reliable, popular and keen member of Orion.

George is now an U17 and first competed for Orion in 2010.  Over the years he has been a regular attendee at training sessions and at the Wednesday cross country sessions. Last year he competed in the English schools track and field cup final as well as the Essex County Championships (at discuss and cross country respectively).  More recently he has gained a qualification as a timekeeper and is now a key member of the Orion Officials team who support all the events that Orion compete in.

Rohan is a sprinter and started competing for Orion 2007.  He has a personal best at 100m of 11.25s and 23.06s for 200m but also competes at 400m and Shot Putt.  Rohan is one of our longest serving members and over the years has competed in the Young Athletes League (now Youth Development League), Essex Counties, Southern Athletics League, Eastern Counties and Essex Indoor Championships.  Having been a member since he was 11 he has now moved on to assist with coaching our induction group on a regular basis.  Being such an experienced sprinter he is able to pass on the knowledge of his valuable sprinting skills to new athletes.

George started competing for Orion 2009 and is a regular competitor indoors and outdoors throughout the year.  His best distances include Cross Country, 800m, and 1500m but he has also represented Orion at Long Jump, High Jump and Javelin. He competes in Open events, in county championships and in just about any other race he can find. George is one of the most dedicated athletes at the club and trains exceptionally hard.  He can be relied upon to turn up and compete or train in all weathers and is a very popular member of Orion Juniors

Hanif is a sprinter and started competing for Orion 2009.  He has a personal best at 100m of 11.32s and 23.96s for 200m but also competes in the 400m, hurdles, high jump, long jump, triple jump and javelin.  He works very hard in his training and has consistently trained through the winter – he even shovelled the snow off the track so he could train while his coach was on holiday.

Each winner receives a £200 to spend on anything that benefits Orion Juniors (within certain parameters). The winners for January to June 2013 have still to select what they would like to spend their grant on but currently the following have been suggested:

Speed bounces and new cones that can both be used outdoor training. Medicine balls with handles. Stop watches and weatherproof clipboards for officials at events..  Weatherproof tops and padded jackets for the timekeepers and track judges. Gloves

for hammer, shot and discus that can be shared by athletes trying out the events for the first time. Specialist throws shoes (flat with minimal grip) that can also be shared. New polo shirts and rain jackets for the newly qualified junior coaches and officials and some replacements for long term officials.

………………………..

Ella started competing for Orion as an U13 in 2011 and since then has represented Orion on both the track (hurdles, 100m through to 800m) and field (shot putt, long jump and high jump). She has the potential to be very good at multi discipline events though at the moment her speciality is the long jump where she has shown a huge improvement over the last year giving her a commendable national ranking and leading to her winning a medal at the Essex County Championships. Ella is popular with everyone because not only is she a very sensible and likeable young lady but also because she is a team player. We look forward to Ella progressing in all her events and we have high hopes for her for the future. With Ella’s grant Orion have purchased 3 weighted jackets and 10 vortex mega howlers.

Lizzie has been competing for Orion since 2009 and is a very important member of our track and field team. Lizzie has worked extremely hard at the high jump over the last few years and apart from her consistency has shown a steady improvement year on year. Lizzie has also represented Orion at the long jump, triple jump, shot putt, discus and hurdles. Lizzie is also learning to be a track official and has a ‘starter’ on a number of occasions which includes responsibility for the use of the starter’s pistols, a role that is usually carried out by people much older than herself. Lizzie is fairly quiet so her achievements do not always get noticed however her contribution is hugely appreciated at Orion and she is fully deserving of this award.Ranking 2012 = High Jump Outdoors 16th in her age group and 79th nationally in all age groups.

High Jump Indoors 11th in her age group and 53rd in all age groups

Also competes in long jump and triple jump and when needed in the shot putt and discus

Nancy has been competing for Orion since she was an U11 in 2010. She is totally dedicated to her running and is a key member of the Orion track and field team not only participating in her favoured distances between 800m and 1500m but also competing in the hurdles when called upon. the team, for Orion at Cross Country. When not competing she is always willing to lend a helping hand be it acting as a hare at the Orion Stars (U9/U11) races or just offering support and encouragement to others. She is a great team member and is very well liked within the club. We hope she continues to develop both in sport and as a person and if she has does she will have a very successful future.Nancy’s grant has been used for: medicine balls (6 various weights particularly useful for core conditioning work) and stop watches.

Charlie has been competing for Orion since 2009 and has covered just about every track and field discipline and cross country event available to him.  He has competed in the Young Athletes League, Essex League, English Nationals, Essex County Championships, the Essex Schools Championships and the London Mini Marathon.  He is extremely popular with both his contemporaries and the leaders and coaches.  Despite all the events he has competed in he has suffered a number of injuries that have only served to make him more determined to perform well when he returns to fitness.  For someone so young he has a very exciting future ahead of him not just with Orion but, with his determination and strong character, anything else he chooses to take an interest in.200GBP grant has been used for: June 2012.  Orion is currently reviewing the safety measures that relate to the new clubhouse.  After a successful first winter training from the clubhouse there are a number of issues that need addressing that will require funding.  Cars often  travel at high speed along the road that has to be crossed when leaving the clubhouse and Charlie would like us to purchase high quality and high visibility signage and lighting (flashing lights) which can be used along the road approaching the clubhouse entrance.

Alex joined Orion over a year ago and has quickly become one of the most popular members of the club. He is very dedicated to his training and sets very high standards for himself.  He participates in all of the club competitions and wears his Orion vest with pride at the many Summer Open meetings.  He can often be heard encouraging others to perform and sets a good example by competing in events for the benefit of the team.  At a recent YAL match he sacrificed competing in the steeplechase so that he could entering the hammer, a totally unfamiliar event which he duly won.

Alex’ grant is to be spent on step up benches and weights (bar bell type including the bar).

Channon is a very committed to developing her coaching skills and coaches young groups at the weekly track sessions.  She is very enthusiastic and sets a fantastic example to others to the extent that many of the younger juniors look up to her as a role model.  As well as being a sprinter she has competed in the Long Jump, Shot Putt and Javelin.  She first competed in the Young Athletes League (YAL) in 2008 and continues to represent Orion in all competitions as well as representing her school in the Essex County Schools Championships.

Channon grant provides a number of resources for the club - new (current) officials handbooks, measuring tapes, exercise mats, agility ladders and weight harnesses for sprinters.

Joelle Ewen

Laura has been competing in the Javelin, Shot Putt and Discus for Orion since 2010.  She has competed in the Young Athletes League, Southern Athletics League and Open events. Laura is a team player and is always happy to step in and cover an event for team points.

With Laura’s grant Orion will purchase pole vault equipment for juniors (this allows juniors to try out the pole vault in a sand pit and so gives them an early introduction to the pole vault).

Buddy is a very enthusiastic member of Orion and despite some personal challenges has achieved a high level of performance at Cross Country.  He has been competing since 2010 and has shown rapid improvement particularly when competing against the seniors.  If he continues to show the enthusiasm and talent that he has shown to date he will be a key member of the Senior team.  He is a very likeable and popular member of Orion Juniors and is always willing to help out, particularly at the weekly cross country training sessions.  Buddy is a very deserving recipient of the Jack Petchey award.

Buddy is using his grant to purchase medicine balls and good quality measuring distance wheels.  The grant is also being used to purchase red polo shirts for officials/coaches (red is the colour required for officials by UKA but as white and red are the Orion colours we are able to provide shirts that meet both UKA requirements and identify the wearer as being an Orion volunteer).

Joelle has been competing for Orion since 2009.  In that time she has always been totally dedicated to the club and her sport in terms of participating in cross country and track/field events throughout the year.  She attends just about every training session and is very determined to do her best at whatever event she participates in.  She is a great team member and is very well liked within the club.  She represents the club at all of the winter cross country events and throughout the summer in the YAL and Open meetings.  She regularly helps out with the younger juniors be it at the Wednesday evening cross country training sessions or the Christmas party.

At present Orion have nowhere to store equipment when using the Peter May sports centre for winter training. Joelle’s grant is to be spent on secure storage that clearly identifies ownership of the equipment being Orion Juniors.

November 2011 Daniel Richards

Although Daniel is a quiet boy he has become very popular with other junior members. He has a lovely nature and is always happy to compete for the team even if it isn’t his preferred event. Since joining Orion he has shown total commitment to his training and competition. Daniel is a very talented young man and has enjoyed a year of success at cross county and track and field. Daniel is really starting to develop as an athlete and is showing the determination required to be an outstanding athlete.

We recently undertook a stock check of our equipment and identified a number of items that needed replacing and/or replenishing.  We have therefore spent Daniels award on new training cones (sufficient sets to ensure all coaches have a set), coloured (team) bibs, two new tape measures, new clipboards and ten new stopwatches (to be purchased).

October 2011 Serena Serena joined the club as an Under 13.  In that time she has shown Orion Harriers Juniors Page 11 of 21

Jack Petchey AwardsEspeute commitment by attending the clubs weekly training sessions and

has always been happy to compete for the club whether that be cross country or track and field. Serena has developed a good understanding for what is required for her to fulfil her potential as an athlete and at the age of 12 Serena was very proud to have gained her first county vest. Serena has also recently shown a keenness in volunteering at our junior events.

As we are now in our new clubhouse the issue of safety has become very important.  New high visibility vests were purchased for all junior runners (as we have now made it compulsory that they are worn at all sessions that are undertaken in the woods or are on the local pavements) and other safety measures including luminous signs, flashing roadside lights and a 'lollipop' for our volunteer road crossing supervisor have been financed with Serena’s award.

September 2011 Madeleine Carr

Since joining Orion Madeleine has shown true commitment to her training and competition.  She has developed as an athlete and is always willing to step in at an event to gain points for the team. Madeline’s commitment was awarded by gaining her county vest at the age of 12. Madeline is also very encouraging to our younger members and has volunteered on numerous occasions by assisting at their training sessions, marshalling at races and team managing at athletics events.

The £200 has been spent on role specific tracksuits and kit for the leaders and helpers to wear at training sessions.  This is particularly important at our new clubhouse which adjacent to a forest road and means that those with responsibility can be easily identified.

June 2011 Iris Maxfield Iris is dedicated to improving at field events and regularly attends training and can be relied upon to compete for Orion at events.  When called upon she will also compete on the track if it contributes to the overall team result.Grant has been used for: Shot putts x five weights

February 2011 Luke Callis Despite living in a different Borough Luke (and his brother) joined Orion in 2010. The club recognises that it isn’t easy joining a new club when you are an established runner at 17 years old. However, Luke settled well within the training group and has become very popular with his peers. When Luke is selected to represent his county he attends the races on his own without his training partners - this is due to the fact that he lives in a different borough. Grant has been used for: Luke combined his award with Adham so that we can purchase a gazebo with Orion Harriers logo and name.  This is needed to provide some shelter during both summer and winter seasons but also to act as a focal point for athletes when they arrive at events.

Since joining the club she has successfully completed a UKA \'Children in athletics award\' and a level 1 coaching award. She coaches within our club on a weekly basis where she leads/assist\'s a group of up to 30 young people. She also volunteers at our New weekly athletics community sessions. October 2010 India Wellings India is the longest junior member in the club and was around when the juniors had less than fifty members.  In the early days India wasn't a star in the sense she was winning, but has always been a competitor.India has always been an all rounder in that over the years she has tried out everything.  When her best event was the shot put she never had any complaints about filling in where needed.

Jack Petchey AwardsAs a consequence of trying out everything she eventually discovered the Pole Vault. After a very successful 2009 India has trained very hard during 2010 and the improvement in her results has been as a result of her regular attendance at training sessions and also her appearance in many competitions both at club, county and national level.  She increased her personal best in 2009 from 2.05m to 2.60m and she has continued to improve in 2010 with a pole vault of 2.80m.  This was a personal and gave her a UK ranking of 9th in her age and event category for 2010.  This year alone India has competed in the pole vault at the Southern Under 17 Inter Counties, Essex Schools, Essex Championships, Essex Indoor Championships, Southern Counties Indoor (all 2nd), England Under 17 (11th), and London Indoor Games (4th).  She has represented Orion at pole vault, discus and javelin in the National Junior Athletes League and competed in the pole vault at Open meetings. She also has personal bests this year in the discus and javelin.

Jordan is one of the liveliest members in Chris’s (our sprint coach) group and is very well respected by his peers.  He is recognised as being a role model by our younger members.  He was recently complimented for ‘giving tips’ in the long jump to one of our younger members in the 10 out of 10 indoor competition.  Jordan was a strong team member in the u13 boys ‘young athletes league’ and was the finishing leg in the successful gold winning Essex 4 x 100m team.  He also broke 3 club records throughout the season.Grant will be used for: Jordan has chosen to spend his reward on medicine balls with handles x 4 and exercise benches so he can continue his training throughout the winter months.
