Key Learning

Preparing for the MOCK ENGLISH LANGUAGE EXAM

In this unit, students revise aspects of a range of 20th and 21st century non-fiction texts and develop skills to analyse and evaluate them. As well as developing these reading skills, they recap transactional writing skills for a variety of forms, purposes and audiences. Students also focus on using spelling, punctuation and grammar accurately. Students sit a mock English Language (Paper 2) in November.

Electricity and

Pre-exposure Homework

Using the internet and textbooks research electric currents and then write three sentences stating what electrical current is, how some insulators can become charged and the units for electrical current.

Me, myself and I Students will:

Research and respond to a range of artists who explore personal identify in their work.

Use their recording skills to produce a series of detailed observational self portraits.

Produce a thoughtful collage of personal memorabilia.( max size A2).

Develop responses to create a final outcome inspired by Portraiture.

Resources will be available on google classroom: Class code is - eyyr9xd

Pre-exposure homework

The students have all been given a summer research task to develop further this term Part 1 Artist research Part 2 - photography Any visits to galleries would also enrich the wider understanding of art – take photos if possible or collect leaflets.

GCSE APPLIED BUSINESS

R066 Market and Pitch a Business Proposal (Project worth 25% of overall GCSE)

Students will then complete the final two activities from their coursework:

Task 3: Pitch your proposal to an audience.

Task 4: Develop a proposal for a business challenge By the end of this half term students should have completed the second project and are likely to have improvements to make following the Christmas break.

Pre-exposure homework

Students will be making their proposals to external business visitors during this half term therefore it is essential that they practice their presentations numerous times to ensure a professional delivery. Students should practice this at home and feedback from parents would therefore be very helpful.

Complete Unit 5: Finance

They will learn about the different sources of finance and how businesses track cash flow. Students will then carry out break even analysis on a variety of different products. Finally, students will learn the difference between cost, revenue and profit and develop the skills needed to assess the financial performance of the firm.

Pre-exposure homework

https://www.bbc.com/bitesize/subjects/zpsvr82 Students should visit GCSE Bitesize Business and then select the Finance unit. There are five learner guides to read and a series of video clips to illustrate the points being made. Students should work through these short tasks and attempt the practice tests in each topic area.

Students will gain an understanding of the different types of establishments and the types of foods that they produce for customers. A selection of outside establishments will visit to talk to the students of firsthand how the industry works. Students will continue to develop their practical skills to produce a wide range of dishes but will do so in small groups to plan, trial, cook and serve a three course meal or range of dishes for a target group or target catering outlet. They will produce an individual portfolio to support the making and accompaniments of a range of food commodities.

NEWPAPERS: 1. Look at as many newspaper front pages as possible – either the real

thing if you get newspapers at home or if not, on-line (just search ‘newspaper front pages’ in images).

2. Think about the ways in which design and content use things like colour, images, written information and layout to appeal to different audiences/readership.

3. Look at front pages of 2 different newspapers on the same day (again you can do this on line).

a. Do they cover the same stories? If yes, how does their coverage differ?

b. Do they cover different stories? If yes, what stories have they chosen and why do you think this is?

Controlled Assessment

Students will complete their second performance in a controlled assessment in November. From this experience they will start preliminary planning for their Brief composition in February. Students will complete their first overview of the listening exam – looking at wider listening as well as dictation and musical analysis questions

Pre-exposure homework

Think of ways to consolidate and revise the vocabulary needed for the listening exam – flash cards etc ….,

Unit 1 Drama Exploration

Controlled assessment – six hour practical exploration of chosen theme of ‘Crime and Punishment’. Teacher to introduce theme and pupils will be given two suitable stimuli to explore. Pupils will then respond to the stimuli through the use of explorative strategies and drama medium. Pupils will write up the process, using notes collated for homework under controlled assessment.(2000 words)

Pre-exposure homework

1. Research the topic of Crime and punishment to gain a wider understanding of the subject pupils to make notes to bring to lessons.

Continue with pathways for learning Boys follow a games based programme.

Making informed decisions about a fit and healthy lifestyle. Students will experience a mix of core activities and pathways. The pathways allow the students to make choices about the nature of the activity they enjoy and will sustain them into adult life and which will motivate their learning. Pathways run across the first term. Boys focus on decision making, working in teams, and making informed healthy choices. Developing organisational skills, team tactics and being more responsible for their learning.

Abortion

Euthanasia

Life after death

Applying religious teachings from both Christianity and Buddhism to the above ethical issues.

Pre-exposure homework

1. Look out for and collect news articles linked to any of these topics. 2. Create a factual mind map on all of the ethical arguments – what do

you know about each issue/argument?

Social issues

Students will learn key vocabulary to talk about social issues within society and lifestyles of young people. We will focus on developing reading and listening skills. We will also develop our knowledge of recognition of different tense in written texts.

Pre-exposure homework

1. List 10 Spanish words related to this topic, such as ‘homelessness’ using www.wordreference.com . Give your opinion on these issues in Spanish
