• Second Avenue Subway – SAS

7 SUBWAY EXTENSION

1.5-mile extension of the No. 7 line to serve the Hudson Yards area.

From Times Square and continues along 41st Street and 11th Avenue, and then to a new terminal at 34th Street and 11th Avenue.

• October /2006, $2.1 billion

• MAIN REASONS: Lack of mass

transportation Midtown West.

The Javits Convention Center expansion will not succeed without it.

• The Metropolitan Transportation Authority and MTA Capital Construction are building a new Fulton Street Transit Center.

• It will incorporate six existing Lower Manhattan subway stations.

• $880 million project.

• The project will improve access to and connections between 12 subway lines.

• It will link NYC Transit facilities with PATH service and the World Trade Center site.

Second Avenue Subway – SAS

$1.13 billion cost per mile

8.5 mile subway project from 125th Street to the financial district in Lower Manhattan

Second Avenue Subway – SAS

• 16 new stations along path under Second Avenue.

• Purpose to provide faster travel for current transit riders and relieve severe overcrowding conditions on Lexington Avenue line.

• Construction time estimated to start in 2004 and last 17 years.
