Dear Year 7 Student, On behalf of all my staff, I would like to welcome you to Co-op Academy Stoke-on-Trent. It is perfectly normal for you to feel both nervous and excited. I would like you to feel assured that you are joining an academy that will support you, challenge you and help you to ‘Be the Best’ that you can be. I hope that during your time here this week you have learnt about our values, our expectations and the opportunities that you will have here. If you have any further questions please ask your primary school teachers or your parents and they will contact either Mrs Garrity (Director of Transition & Student RecruitmentSLE Transition & Recruitment) at [email protected] or me at [email protected] I look forward to seeing you develop both academically and socially over the next five years and being a part of the journey that will lead to your future happiness and success.

On the first morning Friday 3rd September 2021 you should arrive at the Academy by 8.55am at the latest. You MUST wear your FULL ACADEMY UNIFORM. You will be met by your Form Tutor and will go to a Year 7 assembly in the hall, where our Headteacher, Mr Richardson, will welcome you. Following this, you will go to your Form Room with your Form Tutor and will be given a planner, timetable and other important information. During this time, you will also be given a tour of the building with prefects, just to refresh your memory about where each Faculty is, where the toilets are and where you will be having break and lunch. It would be a good time to look at the room numbers written on your timetable and think about where each room is for lessons later on that day, and for the rest of the week. The prefects will be happy to answer any questions that you may have. To help you settle in, and to avoid the busy time around arrival to the Academy during a normal working day, the first morning will see each year group starting at different times as follows: Year 7 arrive at 8.55am Year 8, 9, 10 & 11 arrive at 10.00am You will remain with your Form Tutor until lunchtime. After lunch at 1.20pm it will be the start of normal lessons on your timetable. After your last lesson, it would be a great time to reflect and think about everything that has happened on your first day, and it is likely that you may still have some questions. If you have anything that worries you, write it in your planner, or ask another student or member of staff. We all want this to be a special time for you, and a day that will bring back happy memories in your future years at the Academy.

Mr Kidwell Hello My name is Mr Kidwell and I love being a form tutor and English teacher. I look after all my students and keep them as happy as possible throughout the journey to leaving in year 11. I'm easy to talk to, love gaming and poetry and have a terrible knack of making 'dad jokes'. I can't wait to meet you all.

Miss BallMy name is Miss Ball and I'm an art teacher at the academy and I will also be a year 7 form tutor in September. I will be there to welcome you in the morning and I will be the first member of staff to talk to if you are worried or need any help. I will be there to help you settle into the academy and to ensure you are following the school's policies such as checking your uniform, monitoring your attendance and behaviour at the academy.

Mr GrahamHello year 6. My name is Mr Graham and I am head of geography here at the Coop academy. I have been working here for over 15 years, so therefore I might have taught some members of your family if they came to the academy or the predecessor school. I like anything sports related, but particularly football, cricket and cycling. I am friendly and approachable and I love being a form teacher, giving guidance and support along your academic journey. I look forward to seeing you in September.

Mr RiazI am always keen to support students to develop their confidence and self esteem. Promote a culture of respect and equality for everyone. Enjoy problem solving, origami, puzzles and my subject Mathematics. Aside from this, I love playing sports in particular table tennis and badminton. Not a big fan of formula one.

Mr Wheeler “Hello Year 7 and welcome to the Co-op Academy. My name is Mr Wheeler and I will be part of the Year 7 team from September. I am a Mathematics teacher and will potentially be teaching some of you next year. In my spare time I really like gaming and will always choose PlayStation over Xbox. My favourite takeaway is Chinese and my least favourite food would have to be pineapple on pizza. I also love to listen to music in my spare time. I’m a fan of all types of music but pop music is my favourite. In terms of movies, my favourites have to be the Harry Potter movies. In particular, Harry Potter and the chamber of secrets is my favourite.”

Miss Fowell I am so excited to be a Year 7 form tutor at the Academy this year, and I can't wait to meet you in September! It is important to me that, as a tutor group, we support each other, are respectful and kind to each other and always strive to be the best that we can be! I am a good listener, approachable and friendly; I will always be there when you need me. I like dancing, watching musicals and plays at the theatre, going to the gym and exploring new places. I also love to read, and I have set myself the challenge of reading 50 books in 2021! I dislike deep waters, unkindness and bad manners.

Miss HewittHi everyone! My name is Miss Hewitt and I teach English. I enjoy reading, travelling and going on walks with my dog. I am looking forward to meeting you all!

Miss MachinI am a bubbly and caring teacher of English here at the Academy, as well as leading intervention and support in English for those in KS3. I love reading and spending time with my lovely nieces and nephews. I am looking forward to meeting you all and getting to know my lovely new form

Here are the answers to some common questions from our Student Council Representatives:

1. CORRIDORS: Always walk inside the Academy, do not run. When walking around the Academy keep to the LEFT hand side of the corridor and on the stairs. There is a one way system on the first floor.

2. EATING AND DRINKING: Only eat and drink at the agreed times and in the appropriate places. Chewing gum is banned from the Academy at all times. Please do not bring it into the building with you.

3. LESSON PREPARATION: Arrive for lessons on time with the correct equipment. If you are lost show a member of staff your timetable and ask where you should be going, if not there will be consequences.

4. NAME YOUR BELONGINGS: Make sure that all your belongings and equipment have your name on them.

5. LOCKERS: You will be allocated a locker to keep your coat, bag, and other belongings in. Do not leave valuables or money in your locker.
