By Murray Stephens
Murray Stephens is a retired Olympic swimming coach and co-founder of the North Baltimore Aquatic Club. During Murray Stephens’s coaching career, he led three different swimmers to gold medal victories in the Olympics. The current coach at NBAQ is Bob Bowman, who has coached for 28 years and has helped a number of Olympic swimmers earn gold medals. He recently offered tips on not only success in swimming, but also business and life in general.
Introduction
- Abandon a uniform approach and understand that each swimmer responds differently to types of motivational frameworks.
-Determine an individual gold standard. Do not be concerned with what competitors are doing, but rather with individual benchmarks for success.
-Never stop developing. Learn from mistakes, analyze where changes need to be made, and never underestimate the importance of experience.
Tips
-Accept daily challenges. In any form of competition, daily challenges exist, some of which are behind the scenes. Success brings more problems, and learning how to overcome them is crucial in order to maintain success.
