Dreams and Hopes

Mission: To showcase the beauty and richness of Mexican cul-

ture by sponsoring events and presenting exhibitions that exemplify

the majestic variety of visual and performing arts in the Mexican cul-

ture; to develop, conserve and preserve a significant permanent col-

lection of Mexican art; to encourage the professional development of

Mexican artists; and, to offer arts education programs.

Accomplishments: Is the only Latino museum in the country

that is accredited by the American Association of Museums • Wel-

comes 150,000 visitors annually • Provides educational programing

to more than 52,000 CPS Students annually • Has over 7,600 piec-

es in the permanent collection • Is the only major museum in Chica-

go that is free to the public • Has created more than 100 visual arts

exhibitions, including 18 that traveled nationally and internationally •

Is a first-voice organization, dedicated to empowering the local and

national Latino community • Launched Yollocalli Arts Reach, serving

over 150 youth annually • Present the annual Día del Niño Family Festival

dedicated to promoting healthy living, serving over 6000 individuals.

Cover Art: Mañana Oaxaqueña is one of 24 individual works created for the Expo Line’s grand terminus station in Santa Monica which will be collec-tively known as “L.A. Sonata”. The works will be translated into mosaic by the legendary Pedromo Mosaic Studio of Cuernavaca, Mexico for installation on the station platform. The “station at the edge of the continent” will be a short walk from the historic Santa Monica Pier and the Pacific Ocean. The Expo Line is expected to be one of the most traveled light rail train lines in the United States. The station is scheduled to open in 2016.
