About Pivots Irrigation system• Fully automated continuous move irrigation.• Water evenly distributed in the soil

oPrecise water placement within the root zoneoFertilizers/chemicals applied with same precision as irrigation water – prevents

percolation or runoff.oVersatility in sprinkler packages and options to match soil and crop type.

• Day or night irrigation.• Chemigation and fertigation is efficient.

⁻ “Spoon-feeding” of fertilizer provides timely application and better plant utilization of nutrients

⁻ Reduces loss of fertilizers/chemicals to leaching or runoff• Low operating cost per acre, low labor requirements• Life span of 20 years or more

Objectives

• Need to understand the project site-soil, resource availability, topography,

water sources, irrigation method and fixing dimensional coordinates.

• Mapping out the land size by the help of GPS machine for Pivots installation.

• Catch-can experiment –for yield measurement for Hose reel.

• Understanding Farmers’ perception and mind-set.

• Presenting a potential plan to Govt. officials for implementation of proposed

Irrigation Project with potential subsidy.

Scope of Project

• Hose Reel Irrigation System”- small and marginal farmers will be benefitted.

• “Pivots irrigation method”- Large farmers will get benefitted.• Using “Hose reel and Pivots” in the farm will help to enhance the

productivity.• Utilisation of less man-power therefore saving labour cost and using

that labour for other critical operations like weeding etc.• Minimization of water wastage & increasing irrigation efficiency.

Findings

• The soil fertility data collected from agriculture department Tadipatri, Anantapur.

Particulates Description

pH 7.4 to 7.8 pH range and this much pH content is good for the crop

Phosphorus Status high in major region -productivity value

organic carbon low in that region

electrical conductivity (EC) good for plant growth

potassium content high in that region-shape, size, colure, taste and healthy produce plant.

Page 29: Sumanta Kumar Sahu

Cont..

Particulates Description

Water resources 65% tube wells are not working due to decrease in water level

Irrigation methodology Depends on rain fall and Drip irrigation as a major irrigation

Electricity Good electricity facility by windmill

Farmers' mindset Subsidy need for irrigation method and happy with Drip

Page 30: Sumanta Kumar Sahu

Suggestion

• Introduction “Pivots and Hose reel irrigation system”-company should focus on large farmers.

• Pivots system -company need to find out bigger land parcel.• Need to install a demo setup of pivots and hose reel.• The company should try to get subsidy for irrigation method to get

accepted by the farmers.• The company should focus on small/ marginal farmers for Hose reel

irrigation system.• Both irrigation system need to get approval from GOVT. of AP.

Page 31: Sumanta Kumar Sahu

Conclusion

• As per agro climatic conditions and sources availability at Anantapur district ,the farmers must get a productivity value by the help of the innovative and effective irrigation technology (Pivots and Hose reel irrigation).
