1. Rue de Maupertuis bends
2. Rue de Samares junction
3. Rue du Pontlietaut - raised table
Improvements at the Maupertuis Lane junction:Raised table - emphasise the junction and raises drivers awareness, helps to reduce speed
Improvements at the Rue du Pontlietaut junction:Raised table - helps to reduce speed and make crossing the road easierNarrowed road - directs and slows down traffic flow, it is easier to crossBuilt out pavement directs pedestrians flow and helps to cross the roadReduces the conflict between the traffic and pedestrians/cyclists
Improvements at the Maupertuis:Road closed to through traffic, access to premises onlyMinimises the amount of traffic and helps to reduce speedAllows unrestricted cyclist and pedestrians accessReduces conflict between the traffic and pedestrians/cyclists particularity at sharp bends
Improvements at the Samares Cost Road junction:High vegetation removed - increases driver visibility to the east when exiting the junction. Fence set back to achieve desired visibility for vehicles exiting junction.Greater visibility between pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles exiting the junction.

Roads Committee’s DecisionRecommendations
• An independent Road Safety Auditor found the overall risk of accidents to reduce if the route is closed to through traffic.
• The Trial has shown there has been no overall significant increase in traffic flow on La Rue des Samares or La Rue de la Croix as a result of the trial.
• The trial has seen an increase in active travel modes using the route during the observed periods.
• There has been an increase in the perception of safety of the route by students at Le Rocquier School. i.e. Students feel safer walking or cycling to school along La Rue du Maupertuis
What the students thought
“I feel safe walking to school down Rue De Maupertuis now it is closed”
“Rue de Maupertuis should remain closed permanently, my friends and I feel much
safer”“I feel a lot safer walking to and from school
with the road closed. Cars drive too fast down the lanes”
“I like to see this road permanently closed”“Definitely safer with the road closed”
“I would like to see this road permanently closed”
The Parish of St Clement Roads Committee are recommended to make the closure of La Rue du Maupertuis permanent to motor vehicles (except for access) for the following main reasons:
