Summary of 4th training course
Implemented Course Name: Hydraulic design for irrigation canal and canal
structure
1. Period: June 21 to 25, 2010 (5 days)
2. Participants: 20
3. Purpose of training course
To acquire knowledge for hydraulic canal design for irrigation systems
To acquire outline for structural analysis of irrigation facilities
4. Scene of training course
5. Summary evaluation of training course
Almost all participants were satisfied with this training course and they
thought that this training course was very important to design.
Many participants understood that theory is very important, but they thought
that this training course was shortage of practice and duration was a little bit
short. So, we need to improve the curriculum to add more practice and
sample of design with longer duration.
Some participants are luck of computer skill.
In many PDWRAM, they don’t have enough opportunity to design irrigation
canal and forget knowledge that they could get in this training. So Cambodia
government should provide them more opportunity to design by letting them
participate in the some project even in other province.

2. Participants: 20
3. Purpose of training course
To learn facilitation way for Farmer’s Participation Activity
To learn how to manage irrigation system
To learn how to formulate of farmer water users group
To learn how to collect water service fee effectively
To learn the canal maintenance work
To learn the construction of delivery canal
To learn how to compile useful method of farmer participatory irrigation
management

5. Summary evaluation of training course
Almost all participants are satisfied with this training course and they think
this training course is very useful to establish and enhance FWUC or FWUG
in their province, moreover to learn the necessary of farmer participatory
irrigation management etc.
Site visitation and opinion exchange with farmers was useful and effective.
Many participants request longer training about duration.
Some texts are written in English. So we need to translate to Khmer.
Summary of 6th training course
Implemented Course Name: Hydrology, Meteorology, Crop Water Requirement and
Irrigation Planning
1. Period: September 27 to October 5, 2010 (7 days)
2. Participants: 21
3. Purpose of training course
To acquire the ability of procedure of Hydrology, Meteorology, Crop water
requirement and Irrigation planning
To acquire the ability of observation, calculation and analysis etc. of Hydrology,
Meteorology, Crop water requirement and Irrigation planning
4. Scene of training course
5. Summary evaluation of training course
This training course is very important for participants to make a irrigation plan before
making a design on irrigation system.
OJT is easier for participants to understand content of training than indoor training.
Participant though duration of training course was little bit short.
Until next time, TSC will revise the curriculum and textbook.

Summary of 7th training course
Implemented Course Name: Accurate data collection Methodology For Agriculture
River basin Planning by Using Remote Sensing &
GIS Technology in House
1. Period : November 02– 12, 2010 (8 days)
2. Participants: 22
3. Purpose of training course
To use correctly a GIS (Including data download and upload):
To create maps using GIS combined with other software
To acquire the classification methods used in Remote Sensing and image to
processing;
To acquire the data collection principles for the Cambodia Information System
on Irrigation Schemes (CISIS).
4. Scene of training course
5. Summary evaluation of training course
All trainees were interested in the training, because it is very importance for the
PDWRAM staff, and especially this training course is the main topic for making
irrigation planning.
Some trainees have no experiences in Remote Sensing & GIS.
All the participants were punctual.
Capability of trainees is not level. Change opinion with FWUC

Summary of 8th training course
Implemented Course Name: Cost Estimation of Irrigation Canal and Canal Structure by
Excel
1. Period: November 15 to 19, 2010 (5 days)
2. Participants: 20
3. Purpose of training course
To acquire knowledge for cost estimation of irrigation system
To acquire method calculation for cost estimation
4. Scene of training course
5. Summary evaluation of training course
Almost all participants is satisfied with this training course.
The text book is easy to understand for participants, because the content is explained
using many figures, pictures and data.
Some participants request us to instruct them in standard way of cost estimation that is
used in other country such as Japan. But, Cambodia don’t have the unit price list of
materials and work for cost estimation. In near future, Cambodia engineers need to
learn standard way as a next step.

1. Period: November 29 to December 3, 2010 (5 days)
2. Participants: 20
3. Purpose of training course
To acquire a knowledge for outline of construction management
To acquire a knowledge for dimension control and quality control of earth and
concrete work through lecture and practice.
4. Scene of training course
5. Summary evaluation of training course
Almost all participants were satisfied with this training course, because this training
course is very useful for their work in each province.
They understood that this training course was very important to get high quality
irrigation facilities.
We need to revise the textbook including the safety control and schedule control.
They need to practice the matters that they could get in this training in each province
more.

4. Scene of training course
5. Summary evaluation of training course
Some of PDWRAMs C/P were good recorded, and experience in the field
survey.
GIS program is very interested, but in training course not detailed also should
be conducted in the next training course.
For CISIS data input it’s difficult to input (Survey team should be clear in the
field).
