Wins at AACS

The high school enjoyed mixing science with a little mystery in a forensics work-shop offered by Georgia State Univer-sity’s BioBus department. The workshop included solving a crime while learning about finger printing, blood typing, and DNA analysis.

The bus is already scheduled for a visit next school year, this time to present a program to the elementary classes.

Art EnrichmentBBCS Art teacher Dawn Black and local artist Kristen Lee offered art enrichment classes af-ter school this spring. The first lesson, shown here, was creating a tree by blowing onto paint through a straw and then dabbing leaves with a paintbrush.

Other lessons demonstrated impres-sionistic painting on umbrellas, glass bottles, and... shhhh... a mystery lesson!

WeDo© RoboticsLocal robotics hobbyist and coach Georgia Clark presented a 4-week hands-on class introducing students to robotics. The program encourages them to build problem solving, critical thinking, and teamwork skills in the areas of science, technolo-gy, engineering, and math. Each class began with a short lesson about simple machines followed by constructing Lego models using motors, sensors, and gears. Great fun!

Di-di-dissecting?

Did someone say dissecting? Yes! Pictured above, sophomores recently dissected starfish.

World Math DayOur 7th and 8th grad-ers participated in World Math Day again this year. WMD is an online international mathemat-ics competition in which students compete in one-minute contests against up to three other students from around the world.

In 2010, World Math Day created a Guinness World Record for the Largest Online Math Competition.

“The event does get the students excited about doing math,” stated teacher Andrew Broere.

“The math problems challenge the students to work double-digit problems in their head. A side benefit is the ca-maraderie that we share as we are trying to beat kids from other countries.”

Helping OthersOur handbell choir enjoyed many opportunities this spring to demonstrate handbell playing talents throughout the community to local public school elementary students. The art emphasis events introduce students to music and visual arts that young people might want to pursue. We are grateful to be involved in these teaching and learning instances.

Music’s Impacton Students’ Overall Success

This year’s elementary spring program entitled “A Word Fitly Spoken” featured a western theme and the importance of using our words wisely.

The high school’s program “Bugs, Critters, and Favorite Things” ran the gamut from choral numbers and band pieces to light, fun, poetic narrative.

Educational researchers often note that music in-struction has a positive impact on other areas of students’ lives such as their academic performance, self-discipline, dexterity, coordination, self-esteem, thinking skills, listening skills, creative abilities, and personal expression.

Because of this strong relationship, BBCS El-ementary students receive music instruction twice a week and 4th-6th graders participate in treble choir. Band instruction begins in upper elementary as well and continues through the high school years. Ele-mentary through high school also participate in state and national music competitions in which BBCS consistently places among the top schools.

Sports PreparationsPractice and preparations are well under way for next year’s sports program. Boys soccer and basketball started spring training in March. The girls volleyball team will participate in volleyball camp on campus in June and another camp at Clearwater Christian College in July.

BBCS maintains an athletic program that includes cross country, golf, soccer, volleyball, basketball, cheerleading, baseball and softball. There are options for both boys and girls as we compete with other schools throughout Georgia under the direction of the [GCAA] Georgia Christian Athletic Association.

Writing the Next ChapterReading to Write and Writing to Read

After reading Treasure Island’s first five chapters, Mrs. Drexler’s 9th grade English students try their hand at writing the next chapter. Using descrip-tion, action, and dialogue, the students’ goal is to create a new character to continue the action of the previous chapters. At the same time, each student must end at a point of suspense that would make the reader want to continue.

After composing their chapters, students use the character descriptions to create illustrations that accompany the chapter.

“I just love to see the students’ creativity with this assignment,” stated Mrs. Drexler. “I am always amazed at the level of originality and imagination the students exhibit in their writing.

“We got to chew gumin school!”

Second graders combined fun and learning as they wrote an instructional paragraph. Af-ter chewing a piece of gum and focusing on the process of blowing a bubble, each student composed their how-to paragraph. They then designed a face cut-out and attached a bal-loon at the mouth to look like they are indeed blowing a bubble.

“The kids loved it!” stated Mrs. Snyder, the students’ teacher. “They looked so cute trying to blow!”

Where IS the GreenSheep? After reading Mem Fox’s award-winning Where is the Green Sheep book, K4 wrote their own version, complete with rhyme and il-lustrations.

Life’s Crucial Question:Are you 100% sure that all of your sins

[past, present, and future] are forgiven so

that if you were to die today or ten years

from now you would be immediately with

Jesus Christ for all eternity?

Not Sure?

The Bible has the answer:Everyone has done wrong, or sinned.

[Romans 3:23]

After we die, we will be judged. [Hebrews 9:27]

The punishment for doing wrong is death.

[Romans 6:23]

God showed us His love even while we were sinners

by sending His Son, Christ, to die for us.

[Romans 5:6-8]

To be saved, believe on Christ. [Acts 16:30-31]

John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave

his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in

him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

We want your first visit to Bible Baptist Church to be refresh-ing, friendly, and enjoyable for your whole family. Here are some questions you might have.

Is there a Nursery? We have a fully staffed, age-segregated nursery for every service. Someone will gladly direct you to the right place.

What is available for older children? Fun, friendly, and Bible-centered classes begin at 9:15 for children 4 years old through 6th grade. During the morning worship at 10:30, children 4 years old through 2nd grade dismiss for children’s church! They enjoy singing, games, crafts, and a special Bible lesson directed to meet their unique needs.

And teens? Teens attend dynamic Sunday School classes and then join their families for morning worship. Several times a year, the young people lead the Sunday evening service.

Wednesday evenings range from game nights to visita-tion and times of prayer and sharing. There are also many activities, retreats, camps, and trips throughout the year.

Are there adult classes? There are several Sunday School classes for adults, grouped generally by age. We study the Bible, discussing ways to apply its teachings to our lives.

What is the morning worship service like? During this ser-vice in the auditorium we enjoy beautiful and inspiring music as we sing and enjoy our choir and other music specials. In-cluded in the morning service is a relevant and encouraging Bible message directed at meeting real-life needs.

What to Expecton Your First Visit

How should I dress? Our ministry leaders and most of our church family dress in more traditional “Sunday” dress, but our main goal is that you feel welcome and comfortable in our church!

Are there services at other times? Yes. We have a Sunday evening service, completely different from Sunday morning, and a Wednesday evening Bible study and prayer. If you can’t be our guest on Sunday morning, we hope you’ll visit with us during another service time.

Are the facilities handicap friendly? Yes. If you have any concerns or would like to know that specific help will be ready when you arrive, please feel free to call us in advance.

Am I expected to participate in the offering? We don’t expect visitors to put money in the offering, and you are wel-come to just let it pass you by. We want our service to be a gift to you.

Anything else? If there’s something we missed on this list, just give us a call, or ask someone when you arrive. Whether you’re new to the area and looking for a church home, or if it’s been a long time since you’ve attended church, we hope your first visit at Bible Baptist Church will be awesome!
