FACILITY FUND

The Park and R e c r e a t i o n Department collects a nominal facility fee. These fees are put into a non-lapsing (no expiration) and non-reverting (does not go into the general fund) “Facility Fund” dedicated to maintaining and improving village and school district facilities used in the delivery of recreational programs.

• All field trips will fall on Wednesdays. Awesome August field trips will be held on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

• No refunds or credits will be given for prepaid dates not attended. (see cancellation policy below.)

• Summer K.K. & A.A. participants are required to bring their own bag lunch, beverage and snack daily.

• Registering to attend Kids Klub on a field trip day should be done as early in the season as possible, field trips fill quickly. If you are registering late, we will make every attempt to make appropriate accommodations. However, NO registrations will be accepted after 4:00 p.m. the last business day before the field trip. All additions must be made by contacting the Recreation Department Office at 262-250-4710.

Adventure Kids Klub - All DayNew this year, Summer Kids Klub’s ingoing 5th and 6th graders will have the opportunity to participate in some extra, exciting, and excellent off-site activities!!! This special program is available to all 5th and 6th graders signed up for Summer Kids Klub on Tuesdays and/or Thursdays throughout the summer, and will run between the hours of 9:15 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. No special registration required... by registering for Kids Klub, you will automatically be registered for Adventure Kids Klub! We are excited to announce that the 5th and 6th graders in attendance on those days will be taken to area parks, close attractions, and sometimes even places of their choosing!

Examples include: swimming at Menomonee Park, fishing at Wiedenbach Park, movie and video games at DPW, mini-golf, Jackson Splash Park, and many more!!! All activities are included in the daily registration fee, unless otherwise noted (2 larger trips throughout the summer will require a field trip fee).

This is an awesome opportunity to give the 5th and 6th grade participants some special privileges, and a bit more choice in their summer activities, while allowing them to hang out with 5th and 6th graders from all sites at the same time! What better way to meet new friends and have a blast at the same time?!! We are very happy to provide this new program, and hope you’ll enjoy the benefits it brings to your child!

Summer Kids Klub Information Night & Ice Cream SocialDATE/TIME: Wednesday, June 6 – 6:30 - 8:00 p.m.* *please be ready to begin at 6:30 p.m.

LOCATION: MacArthur School Library

What is Information Night?Information Night is an informal meeting which will give all Summer Kids Klub parents a chance to hear about the program, including, and especially emphasizing any new policies or changes for the summer. In addition, it will allow parents to ask questions of the Coordinators and Supervisors prior to attending on the first day of the program. The goal of Information Night is to create an open line of communication, and a more convenient way to handle some first day items. Without a doubt, this will ease the transition into Summer Kids Klub and allow for a great and seamless start to the summer for everyone involved!

What Happens at Information Night?6:30 - 7:30 p.m.• Parents meet with Coordinators and Supervisors in the Library for

important information including a question and answer session.• Parents have time to fill out and return important forms.• Children play games and do activities in the gym with this year’s

leaders.7:30 - 8:00 p.m.• Parents and children enjoy an ice cream social. • Parents and children have the opportunity to meet their leaders

for this summer.• Children will receive their T-shirt and purchase concession stand

Kids Workshops

BEFORE & AFTER SCHOOLKIDS KLUB PROGRAMGermantown Kids Klub is a before and after school program that includes special events, games, snacks and educational programs. Each month will have a theme and key words, arts & crafts plus other fun activities will be planned. Guest speakers from the following agencies: The Council, 4-H, and UW-Extension Nutrition will be incorporated. Extra field trips may be planned. Tackle the Big Red Balls, avoid the Squigies, and try to beat the Sweepers, as you work your way through our Wipeout obstacle course. But, watch out for flying objects, foam, silly string, and many more gooey obstacles as you attempt to set the winning time! Tyke Site ProgramsThe Tyke Site Programs provides an opportunity for children ages 4 & 5 (by September 1, 2012 ) to take part in countless activities to prepare them for an all day 4K or 5K school experience. The Tyke Site program is designed to provide the younger child with a wide variety of activities to help them develop socially, mentally, and physically. Each week has a different theme and each day a variety of different activities. Attention Teens! Safety Town Volunteers Needed

Teens (Ages 12 - 18)NOTE: Registrations have been accepted since February. Openings still exist for all sessions.Germantown teens are being sought to assist the Safety Town staff June 18 - June 29 (Mondays - Fridays / 2 weeks). The teens will assist with the instruction of ingoing kindergartners & 1st graders in a wide variety of safety topics. Volunteering for this community program is a very worthwhile and rewarding experience. Teens must register to volunteer for Safety Town by Tuesday, May 1, 2012. Volunteer forms can be obtained at the Recreation Department or on-line. Registrations will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. A letter of confirmation will be sent after the registration deadline. The maximum number of teens needed per session is 18.

A commitment to helping for 1 of the 3 sessions listed above for the entire program is requested. Family Camp OutParents and their ChildrenThis overnight excursion encourages families to bring their tents and enjoy outdoor living close to home. Activities include games for all ages, a bonfire, arts and crafts, a flashlight candy hunt and a continental breakfast. Participants will also be taking part in the July 20th Movies in the Park. Space is limited so sign up early. Event will run rain or shine; however, if the movie is cancelled due to rain, it will be held on Saturday, July 21st at dusk. What to bring... Participants must supply their own camping equipment.

This is NOT a timed race but a chance for individuals and families alike to test their fitness, have fun and enjoy a healthy morning together while supporting a good cause. All proceeds remain local with a generous amount going to the HOPE Network - a private nonprofit, nonsectarian, charitable organization that offers programs designed to help single mothers and single pregnant mothers.

Teen Volunteer Opportunities

Youth (Ingoing grades 6 - 12) & AdultsMaybe you’ve attended a Lock-in, slid down a slide with us at The Kalahari or skied down the slopes at Sunburst. Our group plans FUN activities for youth (grades 6 - 12), as an alternative to drug, alcohol and smoking. We also try to prevent youth violence, help our youth make informed decisions and volunteer our time to fund raise money.

If you want to become more involved fill out a registration form and return it to the Rec. Dept. We are looking for responsible youth and adults to volunteer their time to help organize activities! Meetings are usually held once a month on Tuesday evenings in summer and Wednesday evenings during the school year.

Dept.The Milwaukee Kickers MiKro Soccer program provides an introduction to the game and skills training for kids ages 3 - 6. Sessions are taught by experienced MiKro Soccer licensed coaches. Skills are not taught through traditional drills. Different game based activities are used to introduce different techniques while remaining low key and non-competitive. Adaptive Water Skiing and TubingAdaptive Water Skiing and Tubing is an amazing one day event in August giving people with disabilities the opportunity to enjoy the water and have fun! The equipment provided includes a sit-down water ski appropriate for people with disabilities who have trunk strength for sitting unsupported. Senior Tax Exchange ProgramSeniors (Age 62+ & must collect Social Security)

Welcome to the Germantown School District Senior Tax Exchange Program (STEP). The district is very proud of this program and hope you will enjoy your association with the Germantown School District. Germantown is excited about this opportunity to involve the school district seniors in the process of education and schooling while returning to them property tax relief. To be a STEP volunteer you must be 62 years of age and collect Social Security. You will earn $5.00 per hour for up to 86 hours for a maximum tax credit of $430. The Fourth of July Celebration in Germantown gives our community the opportunity to celebrate our nation’s independence. Sponsored by the Germantown Kiwanis, the Fourth of July Celebration is a chance for you and your family to spend the holiday together while enjoying a day packed full of activities.

Gather with your neighbors and friends to Germantown’s Fourth of July Celebration. Last year our parade stretched over a mile and included many local groups.

The celebration kicks off with the Fourth of July parade, which begins at the corner of Pilgrim Road and Francese Drive. The route travels north on Pilgrim Road to Fond du Lac Avenue, then northwest to Main Street. Parade participants proceed west on Main Street to Park Avenue and then straight to Firemen’s Park where we will continue the celebration with food, friends and entertainment.

Many people will make their way to Firemen’s Park to have an old fashioned family picnic, but you won’t need to bring a thing because there will be plenty of area groups selling food and beverages.

Live music by Copper Box is scheduled from 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.The celebration will end with the area’s biggest and best fireworks on the hill at Firemen’s Park.

The Fourth of July Celebration is the perfect way to spend the holiday. All proceeds will support the Germantown Kiwanis and the kids programs that are supported here in Germantown.

GERMANTOWN FOOD PANTRY NEEDS YOUR HELP!

Germantown Youth Futures will be collecting non-perishable food items, personal items, cleaning supplies, laundry soap, trash bags and school supplies during the parade. In the summer, the

shelves are especially low, so please donate during the Fourth of July Parade when you see the Germantown Youth Futures group pushing shopping carts in the parade.

All items will go to the Germantown - St. Boniface/St. Gabriel Food Pantry, located in St. Boniface Parish Center at W204 N11968 Goldendale Road.

YA Summer Reading Program - Watch for info about the YA program for kids going into 7th – 12th grades. Read and enter prize drawings. Read to Rover at Germantown Community Library - Read to Rover is a great program that gives children the chance to read aloud to a dog who loves to listen. This program is for children in grades 1-4. The time slots are 15 minutes. A parent/guardian must sign a consent form and register his/her child. Contact the library starting June 4th for more information.

Facility Reservations For ParksThe Village of Germantown has park facilities at Firemen’s, Spassland, Haupt Strasse, Schoen Laufen, Kinderberg and Dheinsville Parks that are available to the public for rentals. Kinderberg Park features a shelter/multi-purpose room, while the others feature only open shelters.

Reservation PolicyReservations for all park shelters can be made by phone or in person starting the first Monday in February for that calendar year. All reservations are on a first come, first serve basis. Reservations require that the interested party file the necessary permit and pay the reservation fees in person within one week of making reservation or the reservation will not be guaranteed.

Shelter RentalGroups renting shelters in Germantown parks are renting the shelter only. The only exception would be for Kinderberg Park where rentals include the use of the shelter and multi-purpose room. The rest of the park facilities are to be shared with the general public. Groups may use the ball diamond, tennis court(s) and volleyball court(s) but are limited to one hour unless no one else is requesting to play.

FeesFees are based on residency, and the facility that you are renting. Resident and Non-resident fees apply. Call for specific fees.

CRAFT FAIR IN THE PARKJoin us at Freidenfeld Park on Saturday September 10th starting at 8:00 a.m. and going until the completion of the last football games around 3:00 p.m. Approximately 4000 people come to the park to watch their children, grand children, and friends play both football and soccer throughout the day. The people are already here, all we need are the exhibitors. Spots will be located along the walking path beginning at the front parking lot and following around to the back lot between the playing fields.

WHEELING FOR HEALINGFroedtert Health Community Memorial Hospital’s 18th annual Wheeling for Healing family bike ride sponsored by Community Memorial Foundation will take place Saturday, August 11. The event benefits the hospital’s Cancer Care Center and celebrates cancer survivors. The 4-mile, 15-mile and 32-mile routes through Menomonee Falls and Germantown begin and end at the hospital. There will be a post-ride celebration with free food, drawings for prizes, games, entertainment, raffles and more. In the case of non-resident participation, non-resident users contribute an additional fee or surcharge to offset their non-tax status for programs.FEESIt is the policy of the Germantown Park & Recreation Department that program participants help defray the overall cost of the activity, (i.e. equipment, facilities, staffing, etc.) through the assessment of fees and charges. However, the department does not wish to exclude Village of Germantown children who are unable to pay these fees due to hardships that may occur. Parents who feel they are unable to afford the fees for a program should contact the Park & Recreation Director prior to registration.FACILITY FUND FEEBeginning in the summer 2010 the Park and Recreation Department began collecting a nominal facility fee. These fees will be put into a non-lapsing (no expiration) and non-reverting (does not go into the general fund) “Facility Fund” dedicated to maintaining and improving village and school district facilities used in the delivery of recreational programs.REFUND POLICYRefund of fees in recreation activities shall be made under the following conditions:

• The Park & Recreation Department cancels the program: Persons registered for a program which is canceled by the department (i.e. lack of enrollment) shall receive a full refund of fees or a credit for a future program, whichever the registrant prefers.

• Participants Cancellation: Cancellations can be made up to 3 working days prior to the start of a program unless otherwise indicated. You must call the office, email is not accepted. Participants will receive a refund less a $5.00 service charge for each transaction or a fee credit to a future program, whichever the registrant prefers. If an injury occurs after the start of the program but before it is 50% completed, a pro-rated credit will be given upon receipt of doctor’s excuse.

• NO refunds or credits will be issued once a class has started.• There is no pro-rating of class fees.• Refund policy for Youth Sports Leagues: Refunds or credits

will not be issued once coaches have had their informational meeting.

• Refund policy for Field Trips, Craft Classes & Kids Klub: Refunds will not be issued for these programs as the department is responsible for full payment of enrollment totals. See page 6 & 7 for Kids Klub/Awesome August policy.

• Credits on account will automatically be refunded if not used within 24 months.

WAITING LISTIf your desired class is filled, you will be notified and placed on a waiting list. The department will make every effort to accommodate those on the waiting list, (adding classes, etc.). If any openings become available, we will go to the waiting list to fill the class.SAFETY ISSUESThe Germantown Park & Recreation Department is committed to conducting programs or activities in the safest manner possible and holds the safety of its participants in the highest regard. Participants and parents registering their child in recreation programs must recognize that there is an inherent risk of injury when choosing to participate in recreational activities. The department continually strives to reduce such risks and insists that all participants follow safety rules and instructions. If you find a real or potential safety hazard in one of our parks or facilities, please call 250-4710.INSURANCE COVERAGEPlease recognize that the Germantown Park & Recreation Department does not carry medical or hospital insurance for injuries or illness participants may sustain in programs. Prior to registering you should review your health insurance policy for coverage. Absence of personal health insurance coverage does not make the Park & Recreation Department responsible for payment of a participant’s medical coverage. All persons participating in department sponsored activities must provide their own insurance and assume risk of all injuries. Facility ReservationsPARK SHELTERSThe Village of Germantown has park shelters available for rent at Firemen’s, Spassland, Haupt Strasse, Kinderberg, Dheinsville and Schoen Laufen Parks. Firemen’s Park shelter will accommodate large groups of 200+ while the shelters at Spassland and Haupt Strasse Parks will accommodate groups up to 100. The shelter at Dheinsville serves groups up to 80. Reservations at Schoen Laufen Park are for groups of 50 or less. The facility at Kinderberg Park is a combination shelter/multi-purpose room accommodating groups up to 150. The group size for Kinderberg Park is reduced to a seating capacity of 50 during the winter months. Reservations for park shelters will begin on the first Monday in February for that calendar year on a first come, first serve basis.

DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC WORKS BUILDINGThe Department of Public Works Building (room in lower level) is available for rent with reservations to begin on the first Monday in February for rentals for that calendar year. All rentals are on a first come, first serve basis and may be rented days, evenings, or weekends for groups of approximately 60 people. The facility is not available for private parties including wedding receptions, graduations, family reunions, birthday parties, etc. and may not be used for fund raising purposes unless sponsored by a Germantown community related organization.

SCHOOL DISTRICT COOPERATIONThe Germantown Park & Recreation Department would like to thank the Germantown School District for their support and cooperation with facility scheduling. However, due to school athletic and educational programming, some recreation activities may need to be canceled or rescheduled. We appreciate the community’s understanding during these times.

IN REGARD TO THE AMERICANSWITH DISABILITIES ACTThe Germantown Park and Recreation Department is committed to meeting the needs of persons with disabilities. PROGRAM LEADERSHIPQualified, competent leadership is the key to a successful program. The Park & Recreation Department will attempt to employ such leaders in all its programs. If you feel you are qualified to lead, instruct or officiate a specific program, contact the Park & Recreation Office to obtain an application form.

LOST / STOLEN ITEMSThe department is not responsible for personal equipment, clothes, etc. that are lost or stolen during participation in any sponsored activity. However, please contact our office concerning lost items as many times they are turned in by others.

LESSON OBSERVATIONThe first and final instructional classes may be observed by parents or other non-participants, unless special dates are scheduled by the individual instructors. Our instructors welcome the opportunity to discuss participants progress with parents. If you would like your child’s instructor to contact you, please contact the department office. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

MAKEUPS?Classes missed for individual absences (i.e. illness, vacations, etc.) are not “made up” nor may participants attend classes other than the one they are registered for.

ACTIVITY CHANGES / SCHEDULESDue to circumstances beyond our control, some activities may require time or location changes. All participants will be notified, when possible if a change or cancellation does occur.

REGISTER BY DATEPersons should register by the date indicated. If your class does not meet their minimum enrollment by the date indicated, it may be canceled and/or combined with other classes. All registered participants will be notified by phone of changes. Class rosters are prepared and given to instructors. Registrations after this date will be accepted only if openings exist and transactions must be completed IN-PERSON, (unless otherwise indicated) as you will receive a receipt to take to your first session (proof of registration).

BROCHURE SCHEDULEThe Germantown Park & Recreation Department program brochure is mailed to all Germantown residents three times a year - Fall/Winter, Winter/Spring and Summer. Generally the Fall/Winter brochure is mailed the second week

REGISTER FIRSTPersons MUST register PRIOR to participation in ANY program. Registrations and fees cannot be handled at the sites by instructors or any staff members unless otherwise indicated.

COMPLETED REGISTRATION FORMSPlease fill out the enclosed registration form completely making sure to include the class registration number. Handwritten notes will not be accepted. Registration forms must be SIGNED to be valid. A family member’s signature is required for children under the age of 18. In order to help assure that the registration process is fair to all, registrations will be accepted by family members ONLY. If the program offers more than one level, day, session or time, please indicate a second choice, if applicable, in case your first choice is filled.
