Summer happens to be my personal favorite season! Anyone who knows me, knows I love watermelon- and in the summer, I live off of it! That’s probably what inspired the perfect beach accessories
guide: ‘Melon Mix’ (page 116). And, while I’m not really one for camping, I have to admit, I am tempted to test out my rugged outdoor abilities in one of the amazing glamping locations featured in our ‘Gone Camping’ article (page 102).
Make your ‘something old’ the focal point of your wedding with an antique wedding dress! Use our ‘Guide to Vintage Gowns’ (page 39) to educate yourself on the different styles, fabrics and embellishments available.
If you’re still trying to decide on a color combination for your summer wedding, check out our ‘Summer Color Palettes’ (page 82) for some of our current faves. Or, if you already have your colors and theme picked out, get ready to doll yourself up for your big day with ‘Primped to Party’ (page 55), including makeup looks for some of summer’s most popular wedding themes!
Now sit back, relax by the pool, eat a piece of watermelon and enjoy the In Bliss Weddings Summer 2014 issue!

A No, so long as you take time to greet and thank all your guests in some other way. Having attendees queue up for a 30-second “hello” can feel a bit like a publicity tour. Add some of the wedding party to the lineup, as is tradition, and you’ve got a slightly awkward situation for unfamiliar guests. You can kick this old-fashioned custom in favor of a more informal greeting. Your best bet is to visit tables during dinner, when everyone is sure to be seated.
RUFFLED FEATHERS
QQ How much time can I ask off from work during the planning process?
Q I addressed my invitations using guests’ full names, but I’m getting responses using nicknames. Which should I use on the place cards?A Go with whatever was written on the RSVP. Their response indicates how they would like to be addressed, so if Charles Smith III drops the numerals and switches to Chuck, roll with it. Use this name for place cards, thank you notes and any other written communication.
A Organizing a wedding can easily become a full-time job (suddenly that wedding planner seems necessary…) and requires collaborating with vendors during business hours. Tackling it yourself may force you to do some arranging during the workday, but that doesn’t mean you should do it while on the clock. Talk to your boss as soon as you set your wedding date. If it’s a flexible environment, ask to stay an hour later Mondays through Thursdays so you can work half a day on some Fridays. Clarify that you won’t let planning interfere with your job. Use vacation time to take Thursday and Friday off the week before the wedding to tie up loose ends. Ultimately, the appropriate amount of time off depends on the nature of your job and how far in advance you give a heads-up.
I’m having a beach wedding and want all my guests to wear shades of blue. Where should I let them know about this info?A Before informing friends and family, consider this: Very specific dress codes are fun in theory, but can make guests feel like photo op props and may require them to spend money on something they’ll never wear again. Give attendees enough guidance so they know what kind of garments to wear (i.e. button downs and khakis or full-on tuxes) but keep it open enough so that you don’t infringe on their personal style. On the invite, stick to black-tie or semi-formal, or let them wear whatever they want with a casual code – once you see all your friends and family there on your big day, you won’t care about their outfits. Any additional details about dress code should be listed on your wedding website.
Q Do I have to have a receiving line after the ceremony?

BORED WITH BASIC BRIDAL WEAR?
LET US SUGGEST A THROWBACK.
BY MARISA STEINBERG
THE IN BLISS GUIDE TO VINTAGE GOWNS
Photo By Rebecca Zoumberos for Limelight Photography
Here, our handbook on buying and altering vintage, guaranteed to give you a one-of-a-kind look and a dress that is distinctly you.
TRY… + Giving your gown a totally new hue by adding a colored lining
+ Bringing up the front hem to get a modern high-low look
+ Painting the fabric for a truly unique color and texture
DREAM
BIGwith your
seamstress
SO, exactly what can you alter? “Just about anything,” says alterations expert Nilah Petschelt, who has spent the last 26 years restoring, resizing and reimagining vintage gowns at Nilah & Company (although, you may know her from her stunning veil designs as featured on TLC’s “Randy to the Rescue”). “It’s a question of creativity. It’s like a giant puzzle that we deconstruct and put back together.”
Before hitting the vintage rack, choose a few non-negotiable dress details. Styles vary drastically from decade to decade, along with the possibilities for alterations, so a list of essential elements will streamline your search. Looking for lace? Ask for post-World War II dresses. “In the ‘20s and ‘40s most gowns were plain satin because fabric was rationed,” says Nilah.
DECIDE ON A DECADE
Garments designed between the ‘30s and ‘50s often lack the necessary structural elements, such as boning or collars, to make drastic alterations. If you love that fit-and-flare’s swing skirt but can’t say “I do” to long sleeves, you may need to keep looking. Gowns from this era usually can’t be made strapless, says Nilah.
FOR EASY ALTERATIONS, DON’T GO EARLIER THAN MID-CENTURY

Because many vintage textiles are no longer in production, adding fabric to a gown can be trickier than removing the original swatch and starting from scratch – so, stay away from too-small fits. Found a winning fabric, but hate the cut? Here’s Nilah’s trick: Grab an inexpensive plain base dress (check out our pick, right) in your silhouette of choice. Then, ask your seamstress to add the vintage fabric, whether as a
hemline trim or an entire overlay.

Nilah recommends that brides bring in a vintage gown six months before the wedding, although alterations can be completed sooner, depending on your seamstress’ workload. An early meet-up gives her time to evaluate what changes can be made and determine the most suitable cleaning process. If any roadblocks arise, you’ll have plenty of time to consider alternative options.
Run your hands over the entire dress before making a purchase. “If the fabric is dry and brittle it may be dry rotted,” says Nilah. “It’s something you have to determine by feel.” Garments in this condition have been exposed to excess moisture and mildew, resulting in a slow deterioration. A dry-rotted dress won’t withstand cleaning or alteration, so beware of this deal-breaker.
Your gown’s style may stand the test of time, but its materials likely won’t. “It’s not the type of thing you take to a traditional dry cleaner,” says Nilah. Leaving the laundering up to a machine is risky, so enlist professionals who specialize in cleaning and preserving formalwear by hand. Freshen up an extra-delicate dress by airing it out or having it pressed.

When the weather is high in humidity, our go-to ‘dos are low in bobby pins. Take a cue from summer’s laid-back vibe and embrace no-fuss braids, buns and anything ever-so-slightly undone. These stunning real brides lead the way.

THE BRAIDThe beauty of the braid is that it works well with almost any hairdo; it can give some extra oomph to a basic style or add texture to a more complicated one. There are as many varieties of braids as there are wedding dresses, so you’re sure to find the kind that’s perfect for you.

Why not match your makeup to your wedding’s venue
and vibe? Below, five of our favorite styles to try.
BOHEMIAN CHICThe key to looking like a glowing bohemian bride is a barely-there bronze and gold palette.
Bronzer in Aruba, Sephora Collection, $17; Sephora.com.
The Eyeshadow:A killer gold eyeshadow provides a double dose of color and shimmer that will help you shine on the big day.
Color Tips:Gold blends beautifully on all skin tones, adding brilliant drama to your boho look without leaving any harsh lines.
Creaseless Cream Shadow in My Two Cents, Benefit, $20; Benefitcosmetics.com.
The Bronzer:An all-over glow doesn’t require bronzer all over. Use it under your cheek bones and along your temples and hairline for definition in all the right places.

BEACH BEAUTYAs a beach bride,
you’ll spend the day walking on the sand, wind blowing in your
hair – you’ll be a part of nature. Keep your face nearly au naturel with subtle
shimmer and shine.
The Powder:Using a shimmer powder will give you a sun-kissed look without adding any unnatural color.
Shimmer Powder in Kitten, Stila, $22; Stilacosmetics.com.
The Lip Tint:For your lips, use a pinkish, coral lip tint. This will last for hours and won’t smudge when you kiss your sweetie!
Color Tips: Coral packs a pop of color while keeping your face nearly naked.

HOLLYWOOD GLAMOUR
Old Hollywood is a standout look for any bride who
plans on having a vintage, classic wedding.
The most important tools for this look are the eyeliner and the
lipstick. The Eyeliner:For that classic Hollywood cat-eye, trace your upper lash line with black liquid liner to the corner of your eye, then extend the line upward.
The Lipstick:A bold, red lipstick is essential to pulling off this look. Because the color is so bright, this lipstick looks classiest in a matte finish.
Lipstick in Ruby Woo, MAC, $16; Maccosmetics.com.
Color Tips:Red is undeniably feminine but also communicates a powerful presence, just like your favorite big screen bombshells.
Autograph Eyeliner in Pure Amor, Kat Von D, $16; Sephora.com.
GARDEN ELEGANCEIf you’re a bride with a floral or garden wedding, you want to be complemented by the color and beauty around you. Therefore, don’t be afraid of color!
The Blush: A little blush on the tips of your
cheeks goes a long way for brightening up your whole face.
Highlighting Blush in New Order, NARS, $30; Narscosmetics.com.
The Lipgloss:Bright, glossy lip color is
youthful and illuminating. Safe colors to aim for are
neutral pinks and peaches. .
Color Tips: Pink pairs well with a backdrop of garden greenery. Even just a dash of this brightening shade to the apples of your cheeks will accentuate your smile.
Lip Enhancing Gloss in Fame, Smashbox, $19; Sephora.com.

&PATRICK
MEGAN
NAPLES NUPTIALS
MEGAN AND PATRICK’S story doesn’t start with love at first sight. “It was funny because Patrick and I knew each other since high school, and we were not too fond of each other,” Megan recalls. But thanks to mutual friends, the two continued to run into each other. It wasn’t until the unlikely pair met up at a bar where they shared a few drinks—and a lot of laughs—that they realized what they had been missing out on. “We had such a good time; after that, we were inseparable,” Megan says.
TIMELESS NAPLES NUPTIALS
From left to right:. Jewerly: Megan’s earrings mirrored the sparkle in her dress and hair comb. However, their small size kept them from being too flashy or over-the-top. The Dress: Megan fell in love with a mermaid silhouette, which featured tulle and floral lace appliques. A custom belt was added to bring some extra jazz to what she considered a “young and feminine but also a bit sexy” dress. Small Details: Every detail was considered, even down to the hidden ones. Megan’s charcoal and ivory colored garters with pearl and lace accents perfectly matched the simple, elegant wedding decor and style.

The couple decided to wed in Florida, their shared home state. The venue
search was not an easy one; with their guest list capped at 180 attendees, the pair had to find a venue large enough to accommodate their party. The Club at The Strand, boasting an exuberant ballroom and grand staircase, was a top contender that took the prize after a successful food tasting. “If the place is beautiful but the food is no good, who cares?” Megan quips.
The Club at The Strand, located in sunny Naples, Florida, offered the couple the opportunity to not only hold an outdoor reception, but hold an outdoor reception that
would accommodate 180 guests.

STYLE
ALTHOUGH she had always pictured herself donning a ball gown, Megan was surprised to find herself in love with a snug, belted mermaid gown with a train. All anxiety was gone when she met her father at the top of the stairs. “This is your last chance to run,” her father teased after telling her how beautiful she looked. As the bridal procession began, the two descended the grand staircase and proceeded through the dusting of pink rose petals that adorned the aisle. The couple exchanged self-written vows in front of their pseudo-arch, an old fireplace mantle draped in pink roses.
Opposite page from left: Chairs along the aisle were tied off with white ribbon and baby’s breath punctuated with a single pink rose. Unique Arch: Instead of a traditional arch, a fireplace mantle cloaked in pink roses was the stunning focal point—and Megan’s favorite decoration—of the ceremony. Flower Girl: Keeping with Megan’s vision of a soft, yet not overly girly wedding, the flower girl wore a rose halo, which exuded a romantic vibe with a touch of ethereal elegance.

AFTERWARD, guests were invited inside, where tables were decorated with unique centerpieces of lanterns, roses and soft candlelight. Megan, who denies being flashy and over-the-top, wanted a wedding that was subtly elegant with classic and timeless elements.

While most of the food was provided by The Strand, the cake was a
creation of Patrick’s aunt. “When it came to cutting the cake, we did not hold back on smashing it on each other’s face,” says Megan. “I laughed so hard when I looked at how bad I got [Patrick]!” As self-proclaimed partiers, Megan and Patrick picked the perfect group to celebrate with; all their effervescent guests needed was a dance floor and some tunes to initiate a feverous dance party. With the dance floor never void of tapping feet, the reception was the celebration that Megan and Patrick had hoped for.
Opposite page, bottom left: Antique-style lanterns, with a little help from overhead chandeliers, illuminated the reception space. Rustic Touch: Place cards were attached by twine to antique keys. While Megan wasn’t going for a vintage wedding, she thought the antique style gave the keys a cool, classic vibe. The Cake: Mr. and Mrs. Lyons’ cake topper was a lovely script “L” with pearl and feather accents. A blush-pink peony added a touch of softness to the aesthetic. Favors:. Megan and Patrick made s’mores for all of their guests, wrapping up giant marshmallows, graham crackers and chocolate with a tag that said, “Thank You.”

&MIKE
CRISTIN
BIRDS OF A FEATHER IT HAD RAINED and stormed in the weeks leading up to Cristin and Mike’s wedding, but the open air chapel in Howell, Michigan’s Crystal Gardens Banquet Center was sunny and warm the day these two love birds tied the knot. Cristin looked radiant in a gown of ivory organza and lace while Mike exuded sophistication in a light gray tuxedo with ivory accents. The couple subtly accessorized their outfits with individual panache: a pair of Detroit Tigers socks in orange, black, and shades of gray for him, a silver hair comb, bracelet and earrings with crystal and pearl details for her.
by: jolene cochran
HAIR COMB: Cristin says she “searched far and wide for jewelry and bought more than enough,” but ended up falling in love with this crystal and pearl comb. It perfectly matched her bracelet and earrings, and added some sparkle to her
outfit without overwhelming it.FABRIC FLOWER BOUQUET: Even though Cristin
had decided not to wear the gown her mother had passed down, she still wanted to integrate it into the day. To do this, the pink, peach and ivory fabric flowers of the arrangement were partially
made from pieces of her mother’s wedding gown and custom ordered from a shop on Etsy.
INVITATIONS: Each invitation was handmade by Cristin, with delicate drawings of branches and birds decorating the margins. The minimalist designs effectively conveyed the overall theme and feel of the wedding while still allowing the information to be easily read.
THREE RINGS: Nestled amongst the fabric folds of Cristin’s hand-crafted bouquet, the brilliant-cut engagement ring sat beside the couple’s two wedding bands.
FEATHER BOUTONNIERE: Mike added a touch of avian elegance to his gray tuxedo with a feather boutonniere wrapped in twine and handcrafted from a shop on Etsy.
Cristin and Mike’s love story began 10 years ago, on Cristin’s first day of work. She had just started a new job at the same event video production company where Mike was employed.
They struck up a conversation while shooting a video for an ice skating competition, but it was only after an out-of-town business trip that they really clicked. They soon began dating steadily, but after five years together decided to call it quits. Yet even a break-up couldn’t keep them apart, and they soon reconciled. “I joked in my vows to him that our relationship has been like a rom-com,” Cristin says. “Meet, get together, fall in love, have conflict, and then find each other again!”Their wedding ceremony was much like their relationship—laid-back and fun. Cristin carried a handcrafted bouquet of fabric flowers made from pieces of her mother’s own wedding gown. She also kept a lucky penny, borrowed from her
GOD’S KNOT: The couple braided a “God’s Knot” using mint, ivory and silver colored rope to symbolize the intertwining of their lives with each other and with God. CRISTIN AND DOG: The couple’s nine-year-old dog, Keypers, acted as ring bearer for the ceremony and wore a dashing plaid tie for the occasion. Mike
had given Keypers to Cristin early in their relationship, and they included him as a reminder of the bond they all shared. BIRD DECORATIONS: The couple alluded to their theme of love birds with bird cages, figurines, nests and paper flowers that they carefully placed all
around the Howell Opera House.
PAPER HEART PLACE CARDS: In the front window of the Howell Opera House, Cristin and Mike hung strings of heart-shaped place cards from a tree. Each branch of the tree was picked from the yard of Cristin’s family home and then hand painted to add just a touch of DIY flair to the natural wood.
father, in her shoe throughout the entire day. “I needed something old, new, borrowed, and blue…and a penny in my shoe!” Cristin says. Instead of lighting the customary unity candle, Cristin and Mike ended their ceremony with a “God’s Knot,” a ritual braiding of three separate ropes to represent the intertwining of their lives with God’s.
BRIDE, BRIDESMAN, AND MAID OF HONOR: Cristin stood with her brother Ryan (her “bridesman”) along with her maid of honor and best friend of 20 years, Kristy. Ryan’s green tie echoed the floral green of Kristy’s one-shoulder gown as they posed next to the bride.
PAPER FLOWER GARLANDS: Hanging bird cages held twinkling tea lights and garlands of pastel origami flowers cascaded from the ceiling, giving the decor the fresh and open feel of a garden party.
DESSERT TABLE: The dessert stands were made of teacups and plates collected from thrift stores and glued together. They displayed cake, cupcakes and a set of signature cookies from each family; there were no-bake cookies on Cristin’s side and molasses crinkles on Mike’s.
PLACE SETTING: On each mint green napkin sat a hand-assembled seed bomb wrapped in a pink ribbon; the festive favors ensured that each guest could add a little spring to his or her own home. SUCCULENT
CENTERPIECES: Cristin and Mike planted succulents from a nearby greenhouse into thrift store containers spray-painted in shades of blue, ivory and green. The
rustic table numbers were made by a friend of the couple’s, and added to the DIY feel of the wedding.
CAKE TOPPERS: Sitting atop the couple’s feathered cake were the two love birds Cristin had painted with white
hearts and fashionably dressed in a net veil and white tie. WALL ART OF BIRDS: On their RSVPs, Cristin and Mike
asked each of their guests to draw a pair of love birds for fun. They then used these drawings to create the pieces
of art that hung along the opera house walls.
CLEVER CUPCAKES: Each variety of cupcake bore a clever description of the confection, which added whimsicality to the reception’s already fun dessert table. “Karat cake,” “samoa my love,” and “bananas for you,” were but a few examples of the word play.
After the ceremony, guests headed downtown to relax in the Howell Opera House, a
19th century theater complete with wood floors, exposed brick walls, and a cool vibe that the couple preferred to a more traditional banquet hall. Their handmade decorations evoked a feeling of springtime and homey comfort; strands of paper hearts and origami flowers hung from the ceiling, straw nests with tiny birds hid between the leaves of artificial trees, tea lights flickered in vintage bird cages, and hand-potted succulents sat in spray-painted pots. The desserts were no less whimsical than the decorations; in addition to cupcakes, no-bake cookies, and molasses crinkles, a blue cake adorned with iced white feathers dominated the table. For the final touch, two wooden “love birds” painted with white hearts perched atop the feathered cake, while real-life love birds Cristin and Mike danced the night away.
MORE DETAILS CRISTIN AND MIKE BEHIND BALLOONS: Before
the ceremony, Cristin and Mike hid behind bouquets of balloons to make sure their first
glimpse of each other was special.
SYNCHRONIZED BALLOON RELEASE: At the same time, Cristin and Mike released their bouquets of pink and blue balloons into the sky to reveal themselves to each other. “It was a fun and relaxing start to a whirlwind day,” Cristin says.
WEDDING PARTY: Cristin and Mike’s ceremony had an unconventional wedding party. It boasted Mike’s best friend, Bryan, as best man; his twin, Matt, as the groomsman;
Cristin’s best friend, Kristy, as maid of honor; her brother as “bridesman”; and Matt’s niece,
Lorelai, as the flower girl.

TIFFANY
CODY&
FLAIR AFFAIR
ITALIANFLAIR AFFAIRby: Michelle Brown
NEARING THEIR SEVENTH year of marriage, professional photographers Tiffany and Cody Tolmen recalled their nuptials and how much their wedding photos had meant to them.“As wedding photographers now, we wish we would have allocated our budget better to have better images,” says Tiffany.Tiffany had an idea to finally get the dream wedding photos she always wanted with a styled photoshoot. She brought it up one day during a conversation with her close friend Kehrin Hassan of Jet Set Wed, who not only made her fantasy a reality – but transformed it into something much more.“She asked, ‘If you could get married again, where would you do it?’” says Tiffany.“Cody and I had talked about going to Italy, but with a toddler, recently moving to the southwest Florida area, and restarting our business, it just wasn’t possible to take an anniversary trip of that magnitude.”
From top right: Tiffany wore a long sleeve lace and tulle Cymbeline gown. Vintage pearl and rhinestone earrings
were the perfect touch to Tiffany’s ensemble. The bride’s red, Franco Barbieri heels were purchsed from a local
Goodwill store! Tiffany and Cody were the only attendees of their reception dinner, they spoiled themselves with
one lavishly designed invitation and a set of menus printed on canvas.
THAT’S WHEN Kehrin and friends got together to throw the couple a two-in-one affair with a photo shoot and an intimate vow renewal ceremony – by bringing Italy to them. With a budget of just $1,500, friends with connections to various vendors pitched in to recreate the feel of a rustic mom and pop café in the hills of Italy. At the reception, elegant decor full of texture and beauty provided for a lavish appearance but at little cost, featuring secondhand wooden vases and selected succulents right out of a local florist’s own garden. The occasion tended more toward something borrowed rather than something new– but for Tiffany and Cody, the real value of their vow renewal didn’t come with a price tag.
My favorite moment was when I was declaring my love to my best friend in the entire
world again,” says Tiffany. “Also, all the portraits! It [was] really fun being in front of the
camera for a change.

from the wrought iron table and chairs to

against a lush ivy wall. While they dined,
the bride and groom exchanged their
gifts – personalized love notes to each
other. The notes were boxed and wrapped

their private dinner.

Let’s be honest: In times of stress, the only thing keeping your inner bridezilla at bay is your bridesmaids. They help you plan so you don’t get overwhelmed. They keep you from having a meltdown when the linens don’t come in the exact not-too-green-but-not-quite-as-blue shade of teal. They help ensure that every detail is perfect. Let your ladies know how important they are to you for taking on this role with a thoughtful gift. After all, you’re asking them to take part in one of the biggest events of your life! Here, playful ways to pop the question for under $10.
4 RING POP BOX
A cute take on the classic marriage proposal, ring pop boxes are a sweet way to pop the question to your bridesmaids.
5 HOMEMADE CARD Be funky, cutesy, formal, glamorous, match your wedding theme, cover it in stickers – whatever you’d like. Include a picture of you and her for a truly personalized and special gift.
6 FLIP-FLOPS Ask “Will you walk down the aisle with me?” with a pair of flip-flops your friends can throw on when the reception is in full swing and they need relief from their high heels.
7 POTTED PLANT Mini potted plants are absolutely adorable and easy to care for. Write something cute like, “Let Love Grow” or “Our Love is in Bloom” along the side.
1 WEDDING COLOR PALETTE NAIL POLISH Choose a color you want all of your bridesmaids to wear or match it to your wedding colors. There are even wedding-themed shades such as “Save The Date” by Sally Hansen and “Bachelorette Bash” by Essie.
2 SWEET TREATS Fill jars with cookies or your bridesmaids’ favorite candy. Attach a tag that says, “Having you as a bridesmaid would be sweet.”
3 MUG AND BOX OF TEA Write “bridesmaid” on a white mug with black permanent marker and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes to make the writing permanent. Wrap it up with a box of your bridesmaid’s favorite tea.
8 DREAM CATCHER Give your bridesmaids a little positive energy (and a piece of beautiful, boho decor) with a dream catcher. There’s no better way to ask, “Will you make my dreams come true and be my bridesmaid?”
9 PACK OF STICKERS Does she love cats? Buy a pack of cat stickers. Is red her favorite color? Buy some red stickers. Place them inside a card that reads, “Will you stick by my side and be my bridesmaid?”
10 MINI WORK OF ART Some brides—and there’s no shame in this—just aren’t crafty. Etsy has thousands of super cute and professionally crafted cards by up-and-coming illustrators and artists that will get the thought across and serve as a beautiful keepsake.

CAMP WANDAWEGAELKHORN, WISCONSIN
Impossibly charming and expertly curated retro decor – think vintage pennants, furry rugs and tons of plaid – makes this mid-century summer camp’s lack of high-tech amenities feel necessary. Its take-it-easy vibe encourages lingering in nostalgia and in their abundance of plush, cozy hideaways.
$
RECREATIONWandawega specializes in old-school fun. Sharpen your archery skills or try your hand at fishing on the private beach. If the bass are bountiful, cook your catch in one of the wood-burning smokers.
ROMANCEChallenge your better half to a shuffleboard tournament – there’s no faster way to get into that sweet old married couple rhythm. Put the loser in charge of rowing you both out to the middle of the picturesque Lake Wandawega on one of the camp’s retro aluminum canoes.

DESTINATIONS
RELAXATIONEvery corner of camp is swathed in furry blankets, wool throws and flannel, encouraging some serious lounge time. The lofted bookcase in the camp’s treehouse and the decked-out teepees overlooking the lake are nooks not to be missed.
FUN FACTThe grounds have a history as wild as the woods that surround it, boasting incarnations as everything from a Latvian church camp to a Prohibition-era speakeasy to a bootlegging brothel.

NIMMO BAY WILDERNESS RESORTBRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA
$$ $$Nimmo Bay sits at the edge of the Great Bear Rainforest, the world’s largest forest of its kind – and this eco-chic resort plans on keeping it that way. Expect total nature immersion (the grounds are accessible only by helicopter, float plane or boat), plus luxe, sustainable amenities and an endless list of wilderness activities.
RECREATIONCross paths with sea lions, humpback whales and grizzly bears on a guided wildlife hike. Or observe the diverse surrounding ecosystem, from ancient glaciers to white sand beaches, from a safer distance via helicopter. Make landing on a remote island for a private picnic prepared by the staff.
ROMANCEShrouded by towering 1,000-year-old cedar trees and isolated from civilization, the resort’s romantic floating dock was practically made for stellar stargazing and skinny dipping, if you dare brave the icy Canadian water. It’s worth the plunge – just be sure to have the campfire roaring when you resurface.

DESTINATIONS
RELAXATIONAs if the sound of Nimmo’s 5,000-foot-tall waterfall, which supplies 80 percent of its power, wasn’t enough to sweep you into vacation mode, a pair of cedar hot tubs is stationed just within the mist’s reach.
FUN FACTDon’t experience your honeymoon through the lens of your smartphone. Throughout your stay, Nimmo’s crew will be around to snap photos, all of which will be given to you on a flash drive upon your departure.

THE RESORT AT PAWS UPGREENOUGH, MONTANA
$$This 37,000-acre Montana ranch is the definition of glamping: ivory tents outfitted with spacious, free-standing claw-foot bathtubs, two gourmet restaurants, and, naturally, a personal camp butler.
ROMANCEResist the temptation to veg out in front of your tent’s flat-screen TV to take a short evening hike to Blackfoot River. With some prior arrangements, an elegantly set table for two will await you along with a picnic basket fully stocked by the resort’s chef.
RELAXATIONThe view of Montana’s rolling pastures and ponderosa pines from one of the resort’s hot air balloons will have you on –well, more likely way above – cloud nine. When you come back down to earth, get grounded with some yoga.
DESTINATIONS
RECREATIONIf all the luxurious accommodations start to make you feel like a city slicker, earn a little cowboy cred and saddle up for a lesson in cattle driving. Trained wranglers will help you guide the herd through the same terrain Lewis and Clark pioneered more than 200 years ago.
FUN FACTPomp, an on-site restaurant specializing in rustic ranch cuisine, won Wine Spectator’s 2013 Award of Excellence, boasting a selection of nearly 200 wines.

DUNTON HOT SPRINGSDOLORES, COLORADO
$$$Flanked by the Dolores River and Rocky Mountains, this once-thriving-coal-city-turned-ghost-town is now home to a world-renowned resort where abundant natural resources are used to pamper your mind, body and soul.
RELAXATIONEnroll in a fine art class and spend a leisurely afternoon sketching the surrounding birch trees. Foodies can linger in the saloon’s open kitchen and watch chefs craft unique meals from the ever-changing menu of fresh ingredients, most of which are sourced from Dunton’s own farm and vineyard.
RECREATIONTake on the surrounding San Juan Mountains by foot, ski, dogsled or mountain bike. Better yet, lead your own archaeological expedition in search of any remains from before the town’s downfall in 1918 on a guided day tour.
DESTINATIONS
ROMANCEGo for a dip in one of Dunton’s mineral-rich hot springs. Melt away wedding day stress under the stars or in one of the resort’s enclosed geothermal pools – either way, all six are clothing-optional.
FUN FACTIf you want a truly private getaway, rent out the entire resort. Dunton is technically its own town, but includes few residents aside from the local fauna and has never been home to more than 300 people in its entire history.

AMERICAN HONEYMOONSBy: Lacey Bouchard
The word “honeymoon” is becoming synonymous with the word “tropics.” Don’t drop thousands of dollars to lie on a white sand beach somewhere abroad when there are over three and a half million square
miles of vacation opportunities in your own backyard. Below, 10 unique vacation spots located right here in the beautiful United States.
[CAPE MAY, NEW JERSEY]America’s oldest seaside resort offers visitors the
opportunity to stay in original Victorian homes. With art galleries, concerts, wine tastings, ghost tours, whale and dolphin watching, golfing and unique shopping,
there’s no shortage of things to do. Less than 45 minutes away, you can enjoy amusement parks in Wildwood and casinos in Atlantic City. But if you’d rather just
relax, enjoy downtime on the clean, beautiful beaches edging the island.
[CHINCOTEAGUE, VIRGINIA]The beach here boasts beautiful ocean views and gorgeous wild horses. Though you’re not allowed to touch or feed the animals, you will have close interaction with them as you bask in the warm Virginia sun. [LAKE TAHOE, NEVADA]No matter the season, Lake Tahoe offers guests a slew of recreational activities
from snowboarding, skiing, snowmobiling and ice skating during the snow-capped days of winter and swimming, fishing, boating and horseback
riding in the summertime. If you’d rather kick it indoors, visit one of the spas, get a massage, and enjoy the view of the brilliant blue lake from one of the many
distinguished lodges.

[ORLANDO, FLORIDA]It’s okay to embrace your
inner kid; after all, Sinatra did record a hit song about
how love makes people feel young. The best part of a Disney
honeymoon is being able to enjoy the
amusement parks and more adult things like a couple’s
massage or intimate dinner at a critically acclaimed restaurant.
Be sure to check out “Drinks Around the World” in Epcot.
Each of the 11 pavilions offers a different cocktail and snack
tailored to whichever “country” you’re in.
[JACKSON, WYOMING]Grab your cowboy hat and take a step back in time to Jackson where the wild west vibe is still going strong. Spend your days cheering at rodeos, riding on wagon trains, dog sledding, skiing, and even panning for gold. Then relax into a natural hot spring to unwind and prepare for another day of adventure.Photo by Nicholas Schooley

An Illuminated EndingChelsea & Dave, July 13, 2013Photograph by Deanna McCollum Photography
There have always been undeniable sparks between Chelsea and Dave, according to the couple. However, things remained complicated for several months as both hid their feelings. To celebrate their eventual union the pair threw a decidedly uncomplicated beach-front wedding with a tight-knit guest list, elegant minimalist decor and a single guitarist as entertainment. As night fell, attendees crowded around the shoreline for a dazzling fireworks display and sparks flew once more for the duo.
WE CAN’T GET ENOUGH OF THESE GORGEOUS WEDDINGS AND WE WOULD LOVE TO SEE YOURS! SEND US YOUR FAVORITE SHOT WITH A DESCRIPTION TO [email protected] AND YOU MAY BE FEATURED IN OUR NEXT MAGAZINE OR ON OUR WEBSITE!
“My favorite moment was our fireworks. I have an extreme love of fireworks and we had such a beautiful display of them to end our perfect day. Sharing that moment with my new husband was absolute bliss.”
