The Huron-Clinton Metropolitan Authority, better known as the Metroparks, is a regional special park district of 13 parks covering almost 25,000 acres encompassing Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw and Livingston counties.

Serving more than 9 million people annually, the Metroparks provide a natural oasis from urban and suburban life, making available an ever-growing variety of outdoor recreational and educational activities year-round in safe, clean environments.

With a strong commitment to environmental education and preservation, the Metroparks operates nine full-service interpretive centers — nature, farm and historic — that provide a variety of programs, both on- and off-site, for almost 1.75 million people annually.

Whether its enjoying golf at one of eight beautiful regulation courses, walking more than 40 miles of nature trails or sailing across 2000 acres of lakes, the Metroparks have something for everyone. Picnicking, fishing, golfing, swimming, boating, hiking, nature study, biking, golf, disc golf, winter sports and a host of special outdoor programs and events are just some of the activities available within a short drive for southeast Michigan residents.

You can help keep the Metroparks a beautiful and vital part of community life by becoming a Friend of the Metroparks. Your contributions will help keep the Metroparks beautifulso that you and others may continue to enjoy them for generations to come.

Become a Friend of the Metroparks, and your fully tax-deductible donation will be used to maintain and improve recreational trails, preserve natural habitats or wherever

it is needed most. Your gift will support these critical needs and demonstrate your commitment to help protect and maintain the Metroparks.

“The Metroparks provide lakefront property for those of us who can’t afford lakefront property. We want to be sure the Metroparks succeed.”

–Ted Collins, Taylor, MI

Carefully designed and well maintained, the Huron-Clinton Metroparks operate eight regulation and two par-3 courses which are considered among the most beautiful and challenging in southeast Michigan. NEW in 2015, the par-3 golf courses will also double as foot golf! Foot golf, a combination of soccer and golf, is played by kicking a soccer ball through a shortened hole into an expanded diameter cup.

The Metroparks offer a variety of tournaments throughout the summer, with competitions for women, men, juniors and seniors. It’s easy to plan an outing on our courses; ask about our competitive prices and catering services. For more information, contact the Metropark golf course of your choice or call the Metroparks toll free golf line - 1-800-23-Golf-4.

From the beginner to the advanced, we have a course for everyone!

Get rejuvenated by a day of outdoor fun at any of these three Metroparks. Discover dense woodland, abandoned fields and serene wetlands, teeming with wildlife. The picturesque rapids of the Huron River make these parks popular canoe and kayak destinations. There are also plenty of good spots for shoreline and fly-fishing.

Take advantage of an 18-hole, par-71 golf course and two disc golf courses. Cycle along a paved hike-bike trail or trek along nature trails. Play a pick-up game of basketball or volleyball. Or, gather a team and head on out to our softball diamonds or soccer fields. Other amenities include picnic shelters, swings, slides, a canoe camp, a group camp, children’s play area, tennis and shuffleboard courts. Groomed cross-country ski trails provide hours of outdoor fun throughout the winter.

The Mobile Learning Center staff’s vision is to raise public awareness of the opportunities to Get Out and Play at the Metroparks and to bring aspects of the area’s natural and cultural heritage to those who don’t have the ability to get out to their Metroparks. The Mobile Learning Center is a vital part of the Interpretive Department’s outreach program serving the counties of Wayne, Oakland, Macomb, Washtenaw and Livingston. It is offered primarily to communities, schools and related groups that may not have the opportunity or means to visit the Metroparks.

If you are looking for a quick getaway, a place where you can walk miles of trails among towering trees or discover what southeast Michigan used to look like, head for Indian Springs Metropark. Get an intimate look at the area’s native ecosystems at the Environmental Discovery Center or hike trails that meander the headwaters of the Huron River, an area virtually untouched by human hands. Located nine miles northwest of Pontiac, the park encompasses more than 2,220 acres of wooded wetlands and rolling meadows. The diverse habitats provide a natural sanctuary for a wide range of wildlife. If you are lucky, you may spy a red fox running across the restored prairie-land or even hear coyotes howling at trains passing nearby. Observe a captivating wildflower display from April through September.

Indian Springs Metropark also hosts a variety of recreation including an 18-hole regulation golf course, the Environmental Discovery Center with an underwater pond viewing room, a paved hike-bike trail, scenic picnic areas, volleyball courts and horseshoe pits.

ACTIVITIES AT THE PARKBIRDINGOne of the premiere hawk-watching sites in North America, Lake Erie Metropark is host to migrating waterfowl in the spring and fall, and birds of prey in the fall. Typically, tens of thousands of migrating birds of prey are recorded during the autumn months. Hawkfest, an annual festival, celebrates the birds of prey migration in September. Interpreters maintain a park bird species list with more than 300 recorded in this diverse habitat.

BOATINGMake some of your best moments on the large, open waters of Lake Erie and the Detroit River at Lake Erie Metropark. A 12-boat ramp offers quick access to the Detroit River and Lake Erie, considered “prime walleye country.” Enter the park through the main entrance on West Jefferson, just north of Huron River Drive to access the boat launch.

FISHINGOften called the walleye capital of the world, the deep, open waters of Lake Erie and the Detroit River are a magnet for recreational anglers from afar. Fishermen will appreciate the shoreline and bridge-fishing opportunities to catch panfish, perch, bass, and bullhead. Free fishing poles are available for loan at the Marshlands Museum and Nature Center.

GEOCACHINGGeocaching is a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices. The basic idea is to locate hidden containers, called geocaches, outdoors and then share your experiences online. Geocaching is enjoyed by people from all age groups, with a strong sense of community and support for the environment.
