LEARN TO SWIM AT THE Y.For many, the YMCA was where one learned how to swim as a child and for good reason. Since 1885, the Y has been a pioneer in swimming education. Literally millions of people have learned to swim through the YMCA's perfected program. In Y Swim Lessons participants learn and practice new swimming skills and feel a sense of achievement from mastering something new that they can enjoy the rest of their lives. Lessons begin at age 6 months and continue through adulthood. We offer group and private/semi-private lessons as well as specialty classes and swim team.

2015 SUMMER SESSION

Porpoise Swim Teams (Ages 5-18)The Kroehler Family YMCA offers two options for Summer Swim Team and one option for Fall Swim Team.

Porpoise Summer Conference Swim Team (May 27-July 23rd)This is a great way to introduce your child(ren) into the world of competitive aquatics. Swimmers must be active Members of the Naperville YMCA. New swimmers will need to demonstrate their swimming skills and then will be assigned a specific practice group based on ability. Email Coach Bob at [email protected] to schedule a swim evaluation.

The Porpoise Summer Swim Team will be run out of the Kroehler Family YMCA indoor pool. We will still be competing against the same subdivision pools as in the past years. Being at an indoor facility has its benefits such as no weather issues to deal with during practices and a consistent pool temperature. We now offer a choice of morning or evening practices to fit your scheduling needs. The start of the summer Swim Team season overlaps with the end of school. To allow for practice prior to school ending we will offer some evening practices at Kroehler from May 27th through June 4th.

Porpoise Summer Swim Team forms, schedules and fee information are available at the Kroehler YMCA front desk and are also be posted on the website.

Withdrawals from the Porpoise Summer Swim Team will be charged a $25 administration fee and will also be pro-rated. No refunds will be made after June 7th, without a documented medical excuse.

Porpoise Summer Long Course Swim Team (June 1-July 23)This program is for experienced competitive swimmers interested in continuing and furthering their strength and stamina for the long course competition. You may sign up for this program as a stand alone or in conjunction with the Summer Swim Conference Swim team. All new swimmers must be evaluated before sign up. Email Coach Bob at [email protected] to schedule an evaluation. Between 3-5 long course meets will be offered for the summer season. Fees for long course meets will be billed separately. Swimmers must be active Members of ISI Swimming (Illinois Swimming Incorporated). ISI swim team Membership is an additional $60 fee.

Porpoise Fall Swim Team (Sept. 16-mid March) The Naperville YMCA Porpoises Swim Team is targeted to accept as many swimmers, from as wide a variety of competitive backgrounds, as space will permit. Our team includes first year swimmers directly from lessons, as well as National Qualifiers. Participants must have an active membership with the Naperville YMCA's. Porpoise Swim Team is for young athletes who want to compete, or learn to compete, and is not designed as an exercise program. Our fees are based on an "A' La Carte" menu, where you pick, and pay for, from a menu of days to which you will commit. As new swimmers progress, part of my job is to encourage a deeper commitment to practices, or suggesting a move up in group, to keep challenging the swimmers. We evaluate all new swimmers, prior to sign up, to help ensure proper placement in the various groups. Swimmers must practice with their assigned group. The Head Coach, and primary designer of the training program, has the goal in designing workouts to practice as correctly as possible, at the highest intensity appropriate for that group. Teaching and improving the skills of stroke, turns, finishes and dives is a part of every practice, at every level.

The Coaching Staff feels strongly that, apart from the life skills associated with competition and success, enjoying the process is necessary to keep kids in the sport so they may achieve both their goals and their potential. Porpoise Swim Team Starts September 15th and ends mid March. Sign up for RETURNING Porpoise Team Members and siblings opens July 5th, through the Kroehler front desk. New swimmer sign up event will be on Sunday, July 19th 3:30-5:30pm at Kroehler YMCA. All new swimmers must be evaluated before sign up. Evaluations will be held by appointment. Please email Coach Bob to schedule your evaluation.

All swimmers are required to participate in a minimum of 3 meets. Meets, for all groups, beyond the minimum are encouraged, but not required. The registration fee for the season covers the cost of entries for 4 dual meets/invitational meets per swimmer. If your swimmer chooses to participate in more than 4 dual meets/invitational meets in the season he/she will be charged for each event for additional meet entries.

There is a $100 non-refundable registration fee that must be paid in full at the time of registration. Withdrawals from the Porpoise program after Sep. 15th will be prorated. No refunds will be made after Oct. 1st, without a documented medical excuse. Porpoise Fall Swim Team forms, schedules and fee information will be available at the front desk after June 20th and will also be posted on the website.

THE Y. SO MUCH MORE™ At the Y we are more than a gym. We are a cause dedicated to building strong children, families and communities—inside and out. This includes making our programs available to all regardless of need—because at the Y, everyone belongs. You can help us in the cause. Change a life by making a gift to the YMCA. Because membership dues and program fees support our daily operations, your gift will go directly to serving children and families in need. The impact of your gift will be felt when:

• A kindergartner starts school ready to learn because he attended the Y’s early learning center.

• Kids have a safe, nurturing environment to go to after school and in the summer.

• A dad spends time with his child while coaching basketball.

• A child loses weight–and enjoys it–because at the Y, exercise is play.

MAKE A GIFT. CHANGE A LIFE. Make your gift today at donate.ymcachicago.org.

Y GUIDES, PRINCESSES & TRAILBLAZERSAttention Dads and Kids...Join the club! Most of us lead very busy lives and often wonder how to fit in quality time with our kids. This is where the Y Guides and Princesses come in. This is a flexible program designed for dads and kids to spend quality time together.

How does it work? You will join a "tribe" of other families and friends from your neighborhood or school. Your tribe sets it's own agenda for the year and meets monthly for a brief ceremony, games, crafts or even tribal field trips. In addition, each month we offer larger Federation-wide special events that are open to all program participants.

Info session: Friday 9/4, 6 p.m. Join us for Y Guides & Princesses hospitality night at our Movies Under the Stars event. This FREE event takes place in Central Park behind the Kroehler YMCA. Representatives from a variety of tribes will be there to answer your questions about the program and share why they love it!

Please explore our website www.ymcachicago.org/bigtp for more details.

Dads, spend more quality time with your kids this school year in Y Guides. Join a “tribe” of other families and friends from your neighborhood and spend time camping, crafting and having fun! Get more information at ymcachicago.org/bigtp.
