NORDIC WALKING

on campus while observing the historic trees, buildings and vistas. The route

includes opportunities to sit, and a comfort stop.

ROBINSON PARK AND 1970’s LAWRENCE - A DOWNTOWN TOUR

Sunday, May 2 | 2-3:30pm

Take a deep dive into Lawrence history from the Paleozoic to the 21st century. Start with a

sweeping view of history from your lawn chair! Dr. Bob Dinsdale, local Lawrence history

aficionado and tour leader, will connect the dots of place, people, and events by the Kansas

River, the center of many pivotal events in Lawrence, all from a single geographic spot.

Following this, take a six-block walk through downtown Lawrence to learn about the social

movements of the 1960s and 1970s that culminated in marches, riots, martial law, arson,

and killings in our city of 45,000 souls.

Enjoying the outdoors includes looking up! The series will begin the night of the

Perseid Meteor Shower and continue as we explore and learn general astronomy of

the night sky. Participants will look at what there is to see in the Cosmic Zoo using the

naked eye, binoculars, and telescopes. Instruction will include the use of planispheres, star

charts, and apps. Children 12 and older may attend with an adult.

Instructor: Rick Heschmeyer is president of the Astronomy Associates of Lawrence, a NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador,

SUFFRAGISTS IN LAWRENCE - A WALKING TOUR AT OAK HILL CEMETERY

Wednesday/Thursday, August 18-19 | 6-8 pm

The Kansas Territory was viewed as an ideal battleground for women’s rights in America, including the right to vote. Following some early victories, Kansas women continued their crusade for equal voting rights until 1912 when Kansas became the eighth state to extend equal voting rights to women, eight years before the ratification of the national woman suffrage amendment. The Friends of Oak Hill Cemetery invite you to join us for a walking tour of women suffragists who are buried at Oak Hill Cemetery. Each night we will cover 11 gravesites. This 50 minute "full-body" group workout designed for the active senior adult, regardless of previous experience with strength training. participant will experience an improved level of strength and fitness as each participant perform every exercise at his or her current level of strength and fitness. While minimizing injury risk while maximizing improvement in functional strength and weight management, in addition to improved balance and agility. Instructor: Chad Harper. SUFFRAGISTS IN LAWRENCE - A WALKING TOUR AT OAK HILL CEMETERY

The Kansas Territory was viewed as an ideal battleground for women’s rights in America, including the right to vote. Following some early victories, Kansas women continued their crusade for equal voting rights until 1912 when Kansas became the eighth state to extend equal voting rights to women, eight years before the ratification of the national woman suffrage amendment. The Friends of Oak Hill Cemetery invite you to join us for a walking tour of women suffragists who are buried at Oak Hill Cemetery. Each night we will cover 11 gravesites.
