Children under the age of eight yearsmay only be admitted to the facilityprovided, they either: -• Are accompanied by a responsibleadult aged 16 years or over

• Are participating in an instructor-ledactivity and have a consent form thathas been completed by their parent orcarer.

• Are a registered member ofPembrokeshire Leisure

Changing roomsChildren aged seven and under mayenter the ‘opposite sex’ changing roomsprovided they are accompanied by aresponsible adult aged 16 years or over.Adults can only enter changing rooms oftheir gender and not that of the child.

Fitness suiteAll Pembrokeshire Leisure Fitness Suiteusers must complete an inductionprocess.

The minimum age for unsupervisedadmission to any of PembrokeshireLeisure’s Fitness Suites is 16 years. Theminimum age for supervised sessions is11 years.

Customers aged under 16 years musthave a consent form completed by aparent or carer before they are admittedto the fitness suite.

CarersA carer is someone who assists anotherwho is less able, whether they are paidor not for providing this service. We usethe term ‘Service User’ to describe theperson receiving this assistance.

• All Carers must be registered users ofPembrokeshire Leisure and meet thecarer eligibility criteria (see SocialInclusion Policy). Employed Carers willonly be eligible for concessions whenaccompanying a ‘Service User.’

• Registered Carers that participate inan activity alongside their Service

User(s) are charged a concessionaryrate. If the Service User is using thefitness suite, the carer must havepreviously completed an inductioncourse. Pembrokeshire Leisure willprovide the induction free of charge.

• Carers who physically help andsupport their Service User(s) are notcharged an admission fee but arerequired to swipe in at receptionwhere they will be recorded as a‘Carer in Attendance.’

• Carers who observe or escort theirService User(s) but do not participateor physically support the Service Userare not charged but are required toswipe in at reception where they willbe recorded as a ‘Carer inAttendance.’

• Carers for Service User(s) over the ageof 60 will be eligible for freeswimming when they participate inswimming alongside their ServiceUser (see over 60’s free swimmingpolicy).

Leisure Centre Child Admission Policy

Swimming Pool Child Admission PolicyA responsible adult, aged at least 16years must accompany all childrenunder the age of eight years.

The responsible adult will go into thewater with the children they areaccompanying, maintain direct controland constant watch over the childrenand be in close contact with those oftheir children who are weak or non-swimmers.

The following table highlights themaximum number of children that oneresponsible adult can accompany.

* Admission is conditional on non-swimmers wearing armbands or other suitablebuoyancy aids which are appropriate to the age and abilities of the child. Customersto be advised to only use swimming aids that are kite marked or carry a BS ENnumber.

Activities Descriptions

Free Swimming Summer 2011In partnership with the Welsh Assembly, PembrokeshireLeisure will be providing free swimming to all registeredchildren between 12pm - 3pm Monday - Friday and all daySaturday and Sunday during the summer holidays.

Dragon SwimA fun packed swimming session that will incorporate suchactivities as water polo, octopush, lifesaving, junior Swim-Fit, diving, starts & turns and canoeing. The sessions aresuitable for all children that are ASA Level 4 and above.

Family SwimsFree swimming for children and their parents/guardians.Adults must be accompanied into the pool by a child whilsta child must be accompanied by an adult in order to gainadmission. Two adults may gain free entry with every childattending. Normal child admission policy is applicable.

Intensive Swimming Lessons(From age 4 yrs upwards)A beneficial week long 30 minute each day intensivecourse, which is suitable for all abilities and levelsfollowing the National Teaching Plan. Badges andcertificates are available on completion of the course.Please note: Swimming lessons will be subject tominimum numbers.

Ducklings(Booking essential, from age 3 yrs to approximatey 4 yrs)

This group is designed to introduce very young children tothe environment and delights of the water. Specificallydeveloped to support the Foundation Level of the NationalPlan for Teaching Swimming that encourages waterconfidence at an early age.

Little SwimmersThis is an adult and child class designed to allow parentsto spend quality time in the pool with their child havingfun, learning through play and structured techniques. Thesessions are designed to encourage water confidence anddevelop a parents understanding of how to assist theirchild in the water through the early years (under 3).

Ruff ‘n’ Tumble(For ages 0 - 4 yrs)Children can enjoy a fun session in a controlledenvironment. Creative play, bounce about sessions andlots of children to play with. Centre staff will ensure yourchild’s experience is an enjoyable one.Please note: Parents must remain with children.

Junior Fitness ClubThis is the perfect chance for 11 - 15 year olds to come tothe centre and enjoy exercise in a safe and friendlyenvironment. The Fitness Club offers supervised use of ourFitness Suites. There are plenty of opportunities to havefun, meet up with friends and relax in comfortablesurroundings.

Summer Camp – Activity DescriptionsGirl Heaven – A session dedicated to all things girlie!Round up your friends to have fun whilst makingjewellery, craft, netball, hockey, dancing, singing andcreating groovy accessories.

Mini Olympics – Come along and see if you can win amedal at our mini Olympics – there will be differentsporting competitions to take part in throughout the dayranging from javelin throwing, races, mini hurdles, relaysand many more.

Sporting Madness – A jam-packed session full offootball, kwik cricket and basketball to name a few.

Mission Impossible – Children all hyped up withnowhere to go? Bring them to us and we’ll set them somefun challenges which will stretch their imagination.

Leisure’s Got Talent! – Can you sing, dance, juggle or telljokes? Whatever your talent, come and show it off to ourjudges and win some great prizes!

Crafty Fun – Show us your artistic side working withpaints and materials. Includes creating collages, facepainting and much more.

Movie Munchers – An enjoyable session, watching aDVD, whilst having lunch.

Cookery Corner – A sweet treat for the afternoon!

Summer Camp – Notes for Parents

How do I book?Call your chosen centre or pop into reception.

New to the centre?A registration form must be completed by theparent/ guardian before payment can be made.

When do I pay?Payment must be made at time of booking. Pay atreception using cash, cheque or credit/ debit card.You can also book and pay for classes/ coursesover the phone.

What do I need to bring?Please ensure clothing is suitable to the activityand that trainers are worn. Swimming kit needed. Itis a good idea to bring a drink and a healthy snackfor break times.*Please note lunch is not provided*

Our promise to you- We will provide a variety of high qualityactivities for children

- All our staff are fully trained in our holidayactivity policies and procedures and fullyqualified to instruct activities where relevant

- Staff/ Children ratios are set and maintained atall times to ensure that children will never beleft unsupervised

- Children will have FUN and learn in a safe,happy environment with staff that CARE.

Additional information- We reserve the right to cancel should there beinsufficient numbers for an activity. Where thisis the case we undertake to give at least twoweeks notice of the cancellation. Alternativeswill be offered wherever possible.

- Cancellation by the customer: all activities arenon-refundable. Credits may be offered at thediscretion of management.

- Pembrokeshire Leisure has a child protectionpolicy in place and all staff involved inchildren’s activities are checked via theCriminal Records Bureau.

- When registering your child into an activity,please let the staff know of any medicalconditions your child may have. Any medicationcan be stored away safely but must beadministered by the child.

- We reserve the right to change the terms andconditions at any time. Activities may change orbe cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.

- Any child requiring individual/ 1-1 attention willneed to be accompanied by a responsible adultthroughout the day.

In the interest of giving sufficient notice, any days with insufficient numbers registered bythe 30th June 2011 will be cancelled. Bookings for sessions still going ahead can still be

SUMMER PLAY IN THE PARK 2011Look out for our “Play in the Park” team, who will be visiting parks and openspaces across Pembrokeshire during the summer holidays. The team will beavailable to join in children’s play in the following parks for the six weeks ofthe summer holidays starting on Monday 18th July to Friday 26th August 2011.

• On Wednesdays the “Play in the NationalPark” sessions will be run in partnership withthe National Parks and be held at venuesthroughout the county which will promote theuse of Pembrokeshire’s wonderful naturalfacilities.

• On Thursdays the session in the morning willalternate from one being held in Angle SouthPembrokeshire to St Dogmaels in the North ofthe County further information on the datesfor these venues will be confirmed shortly.

• Parents are reminded that children may getwet/dirty but will also have fun.

• Under the terms and conditions of OpenAccess Play no contract is made between theplay workers and parents/carers to providecare for any duration whilst a child is presentat “Play in the Park”. Children are free tocome and go as they wish.

EVERY YEAR, THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE GET INTOA LIFE-THREATENING DIFFICULTY ON OUR COASTS.They may be washed out to sea, pulled under by a strong rip current, or simply get into thewater when conditions are dangerous. To ensure you and your family don’t put yourselvesin danger we have compiled some simple steps you can take to stay safe on the beach.

TOP TIPS TO STAY SAFE ONPEMBROKESHIRE BEACHES• When possible, always swim at a lifeguardedbeach. Go to www.goodbeachguide.co.uk tosearch for listings throughout the UK

• When on a lifeguarded beach, find the red andyellow flags and swim or bodyboard betweenthem - this area is patrolled by lifeguards.

• Always read and obey the safety signs, usuallyfound at the entrance to the beach. These will helpyou avoid potential hazards on the beach andidentify the safest areas for swimming.

• If you get in trouble, stick your hand in the air andshout for help.

• Never swim alone.• If you see someone in difficulty, never attempt arescue. Tell a lifeguard or, if you can’t see alifeguard, call 999 or 112 and ask for theCoastguard.

KNOW YOUR FLAGSRed and Yellow Flagsindicate the area patrolled by lifeguards.These are the safe areas to swim,bodyboard and use inflatables.Black and White Chequered Flagsindicate an area zoned by lifeguards foruse of watercraft such as surfboardsand kayaks. Never swim or bodyboardin these areas.The Red FlagIndicates danger. NEVER enter the waterwhen the red flag is flying, under anycircumstances.The Orange WindsockIndicates offshore windconditions. You should NEVERuse an inflatable when thesock is flying.

Pembrokeshire Leisure is working with The RNLI,Pembrokeshire Adventure Centre (Princes Trust)and The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park toprovide safe exciting active and educational beachdays for the children of Pembrokeshire.

The days will include a mixture of Sit on TopKayaking/Surfing, Beach Games and EnvironmentalActivities such as rock pooling and strand lining etc.

Pembrokeshire LeisureBEACH DAYS

Safety is a key factor and thechildren will be taken throughbeach and sea safety andawareness of their surroundings,while at the same time we canguarantee they will have a greattime and learn a lot more aboutthe natural environment.

Explore the dramaticPembrokeshire coastline from acompletely unique perspective. Youwill be guided by PembrokeshireAdventure Centre’s highly qualifiedand experienced Sea Kayakguides, along sections of ourfantastic coastline, accessing partsof the coast you would nevernormally experience. The Sit onTop kayak is very easy to use, asthe name suggests you sit on topof this craft, so you do not need toworry about what happens if youcapsize. They are also very easy tocontrol, these boats go in thedirection you ask them to, thismeans you can focus on enjoyingyour time out and about exploringthe wonders of the PembrokeshireCoast.

No previous experience isnecessary, all we ask is you comewith a whole bundle ofenthusiasm. Our Guides willensure you are safe and coach youthrough some of the basic skillsrequired to get the most out of theday.

The Beach Days will be held on theBlue Flag beaches. ThePembrokeshire Coast NationalPark team will deliver exciting andstimulating environmentalactivities which will be fun andthought provoking.

Children must have be able toswim at least 50m in deep water.The activities are for childrenbetween the ages 8yrs to 15yrs.

The bus will collect and return thechildren to / from the designatedLeisure Centre and Beachaccompanied by a PembrokeshireLeisure Coordinator.

Bookings must be made andpaid for by the 30th June 2011at the latest.

Booking can be made in thenormal way through your localLeisure Centre.

Please note all children takingpart will need to have anassessment of their swimmingabilities.

You will need to book anassessment at any of thePembrokeshire Leisure Centresbefore we can allow you to takepart.

Purple Routes Play ProjectThe Purple Routes Play Project is a Big Lottery Funded project tosupport children’s play in the community. The Purple Routes PlayProject recognises the child’s right to play, the impact it has on life andthe importance of play for everyone. This will be achieved throughfacilitating free of charge, open access play sessions where childrenand young people take an active role in their freely chosen play.

The project is being led by CAVS working in partnership withPembrokeshire County Council, PAVS and Carmarthenshire CountyCouncil. It aims to deliver free open access play sessions across 6areas in Pembrokeshire in Tenby, Pennar, Neyland, Merlins Bridge,Maenclochog and Fishguard/Goodwick during the summer. Theproject will complement Pembrokeshire County Council’s own openaccess Play in the Park programme.

We offer swimming lessons in a friendlyand safe environment with qualifiedteachers and small class numbers.

Our swim scheme follows the nationallyrecognised Amateur SwimmingAssociation’s (ASA) National Plan forTeaching Swimming. The programme isdesigned to take children of all agesthrough from their first splash to fullwater competence.

Little SwimmersThis is an adult and child classdesigned to allow parents to spendquality time in the pool with their childhaving fun, learning through play andstructured techniques. The sessionsare designed to encourage waterconfidence and develop a parentsunderstanding of how to assist theirchild in the water through the earlyyears (under 3).

DucklingsThe ASA Duckling Awards are for Pre -School Children aged 3 years. Theclasses have a maximum number of 6children and are led by an instructor inthe pool.

These classes are designed to developchildren’s basic aquatic skills throughprogressive activities and games. It willallow them to achieve water confidenceaway from the parent and provide thebuilding blocks for swimming withoutassistance.

Stages 1 - 7The stages are open to all children aged4 and upwards. It is designed to allowswimmers to learn how to swimcompetently and to provide them withthe skills which will enable them tocontinue to participate in any aquaticsports later on, such as CompetitiveSwimming, Diving, SynchronisedSwimming, Water Polo and RookieLifesaving.

Swimming Lessons are availablethroughout the year and we also offerweek long intensive lessons during theholidays.

Sport Pembrokeshire’s Fun Football scheme, accredited by the Football Association of Wales, has beenin operation throughout the County since October 2010. The program has been a huge success withgood attendance figures at every site.

The purpose of these sessions is to provide players (boys and girls) between the ages of 5 and 11 withthe opportunity to play small sided games in a safe and fun environment. Players who have neverplayed before as well as those already attached to a football club are welcome to attend.
