Come explore the world with Lausanne this summer! Whether you are a current Lausanne family or just learning about our community for the first time, you will find our summer program is the best of both worlds. It is designed to provide campers with exciting summer enrichment combined with the thrill of a classic Lausanne summer.

Lausanne’s beautiful 28 acre campus, which includes many new facilities, renovated sporting fields, and Blue Heron Lake, provides a safe, nurturing, and memorable summertime environment for rising Junior Kindergarten through 8th grade students.

Please take a moment to review our brochure. Offerings are divided by grade level and have color-coded pages to make finding age-appropriate activities quick and easy. BeforeCare and AfterCare The Lausanne Summer program offers Before and Aftercare each day of the summer that camps are offered. Before care is held from 7:30 - 8:45 a.m. each morning and Aftercare is held from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. each afternoon.

BeforeCare: $5.00 per day (anytime from 7:30 a.m. - 8:45 a.m.)AfterCare: $10.00 per day (anytime from 4:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.)

Lausanne PaloozaFriday, June 15th • Friday, June 29th • Friday, July 27th

It wouldn’t be a Lausanne summer without Lausanne Palooza! Over the summer, Lausanne will host three Lausanne Palooza events that consist of wild and crazy games, water slides, and so much more! They will begin right after the official camp day ends at 4:00 that afternoon. Campers will enjoy extra activities and as well as a good, old fashioned cookout. Palooza nights will end around 9:00 that evening after a night activity including a bonfire, the always popular storytime, a talent show, wild games, etc. Mark your calendars; it is going to be a fun night had by all.

Fee: $25 if signed up for programs on the week of Lausanne Palooza

$35 if coming ONLY for Lausanne Palooza (beginning at 3:30 p.m. on the selected days)

Lausanne’s No Bummer Summer Dance

Friday, July 13th 7:00-9:30 • $5.00 in advance / $10.00 at the door

For the first time ever, Lausanne will host a Middle School Dance during the summer. DJ-ed by Spencer Smith, this dance will the summer’s night to remember for rising 6th through 8th graders. Located in the Norfleet Gymnasium, the night will begin at 7:00 p.m. and will end at 9:30 p.m. Chaperones will be onsite to ensure safety and appropriate behavior. Any students behaving inappropriately will be sent home immediately. So bring your friends and join us for the dance of the summer!

All Roads Lead to China

May 29 - June 19:00 a.m - 4:00 p.m.

The Confucius Institute at the University of Memphis (CIUM) is proud to once again partner with Lausanne Collegiate School to offer this camp seasoned with Chinese culture. The camp titled, All Roads Lead to China, is an action packed camp filled with enrichment activities focusing on the Chinese language and culture. Campers will experience such culture infused activities as Chinese calligraphy, culinary arts, dancing, painting, Mandarin Chinese language lessons, Tai Chi, and Wushu. In addition, the camp will include presentations from special guest performers.

* Before and AfterCare this week are as follows:

Chess Camp With Mid-South ChessJune 11- June 15 9:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Chess makes you smarter in a fun, exciting, and challenging environment! Mid-South Chess Chess Camp, the country’s premier chess camp, features some of the world’s best chess players. International Grandmaster Alexander Stripunsky, International Grandmaster Georgi Kashcheishvili, International Grandmaster Robert Hess, Women’s International Master Alisa Melekhina, International Master-Elect Teddy Coleman, and Andre Duvall, early childhood educator, headline this year’s camp. All instructors are active and experienced chess coaches and include a former World Championship player, a US Co-Champion, a recent Harvard graduate, a current Yale student, and a University of Pennsylvania law student.

This camp is designed for all ages and levels. Each camper will be taught by every instructor on a rotating basis, and counselors will remain with a group throughout the day. There will be optional and supervised sports breaks.

Camp includes a T-shirt, group photo, daily souvenir, trophy, autographed certificate, and a tournament following the camp. Before and AfterCare will be available. Camp is for commuters and residential campers. Open house, orientation, and a simul all begin at 4:00 p.m., Sunday, June 10, at the Lausanne Elder Performing Arts Center.

Registration: $100 Deposit holds your spot and is applied to tuition $375 by May 1

Scouts & Pirates (Rising JK & SK)Scouts and Pirates are programs for children 4 and 5 years old (rising Junior Kindergarten and Senior Kindergarten students). Children

respond enthusiastically to the hands-on learning, active participation, and developmentally appropriate curriculum designed around the

camp’s around the world themes. Outdoor time, making new friends, and fun-centered activities will be enjoyed by all. Each week campers

will explore a different theme through a series of enrichments, art, sports and other various activities.

We will learn about some of the animals that live in the grasslands of Africa-elephants, giraffes, leopards, hippopotamuses, rhinoceroses, and zebras. We will go on an energized expedition so be ready to go on an animal adventure loaded with learning opportunities.

Swim LessonsJune 4 - June 8 • 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.mCamp Instructor Fee: $150Get ready to splash into summer with the swimming basics! Campers will swim away the morning learning gator glides, floating techniques, and simple strokes. Lifeguards will be on site in order to ensure camper safety.

Princess Lessons June 4 - June 8 • 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.Michele Aldinger Fee: $125Come dressed like your favorite princess. We will have a week of dress up, nail painting, jewelry and more. We will have tea parties, a ball and so many more fun princess activities. This will be a fun week for all little girls!

How Does Your Garden Grow? June 11 - June 15 • 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.Peggy Boatwright Fee: $140You don’t have to have a little green thumb to get dirty in this camp for budding gardeners! Practice real gardening skills and have fun learning how plants grow while looking, feeling, smelling, listening, and even tasting your way through the different aspects of gardening. By week’s end, take home a

little garden of your very own to care for this summer.

Reading is BigJune 18 - June 22 • 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.Leslie Holm Fee: $135Do you need extra practice in reading? Reading help is on the way with this camp by a certified first grade teacher. We will do shared reading, guided reading and independent reading. Don’t go to a tutor when you can get reading help right here at Lausanne. Mrs. Holm will help motivate you to read and teach you that reading is fun! READING IS BIG! Let’s build your reading foundation/enrichment this summer.

Art FUNaticsJune 18 - June 22 • 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.mCamp Instructor Fee: $135Campers will become Art FUNatics as they spend a week exploring their creative sides while painting, drawing, stamping, sculpting, and so much more! Each day will provide a fantastic art adventure. Remember, getting messy is part of the fun!

Once Upon a Time:Dramatic Story Telling for KidsJuly 23 - July 27 • 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m Ashley Bugg Brown Fee: $125Students will get their chance to shine as they learn how to speak loudly and clearly on stage while telling a story. Students will explore the ways to play a character and will learn a song and dance. A great workshop for any child with a flair for the dramatic. Students will gain experience onstage by performing their very own play that will be performed for an invited audience on the last day of class.

This camp is designed to help you practice your skills at a number of sports such as kickball, basketball, and many others. CheerleadingJune 25 - June 29 • 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.Leslie Brahm Fee: $125This youth cheerleading camp is open to all girls who have an interest in cheerleading, no prior experience required! During this camp, you will learn the basics of becoming a cheerleader. We will cover basic motions and fun sideline chants and cheers. Campers should wear comfortable shorts and t-shirts with tennis shoes (no sandals or backless shoes). This camp will be fun and exciting!

Basketball

June 25 - June 29 • 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.Wayne Kelley Fee: $125If you need ot improve your free throw percentage or your three point shot, this is the camp for you! You will focus on the fundamentals of basketball during the clinic and improve your passing skills, dribbling, stance and positioning. You will learn two or three offenses and defenses and practice these in game situations. Most importantly, you will have fun!

Science SleuthJuly 9 - July 13 • 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.mLeslie Holm Fee: $145Are you a science sleuth? Do you like to figure out all sorts of things about the world? We will make toys, learn science tricks, and even bake some goodies. If experiments are your game, then this class is calling your name.

Dance DanceJuly 9 - July 13 • 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m Lauren Stallings Fee: $125Get ready to dance to the music! Junior Spy AcademyJuly 23 - July 27 • 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m Camp Instructor Fee: $125Have you ever wanted to be a Secret Agent? Well, get ready to go undercover in this camp as you enter into your specialized training to undertake missions to save the world.

2nd Grade Awaits You!July 23 - July 27 • 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m Robin Fessler Fee: $125Allow me to introduce your child to the creative world of 2nd grade! Children will participate in activities designed to strengthen team-building and problem-solving skills as well as have fun with a survey that will reinforce the type of learners we are! We will become acquainted with routines and expectations which will include Readers and Writers Workshop mini-lessons as well as the 2nd grade projects. Utilizing classroom technology, we will review math concepts while playing the game of Jeopardy. Your children will walk away with confidence and a connection to 2nd grade.

This year Lausanne is offering a Counselor-In-Training or C.I.T. program for 7th and 8th graders in the afternoons from 12:00-4:00. C.I.T.s get to work alongside the staff and help facilitate activities for the younger campers. Through this program, you will gain valuable work experience, develop new leadership skills, and have a blast working with kids. Being a C.I.T. is the first step in an individual’s transition form camper to possible staff member. All C.I.Ts will receive official staff shirts.

Each camp day morning will be spent running at one of Shelby County’s finest trail venues--Shelby Farms, Shelby Forest or Stanky Creeek--while the afternoons will be devoted to the enjoyment of watching exciting NCAA, Olympic and World Championship races, learning about the latest training techniques designed to help any runner achieve their best, as well as participating in runner-specific strength and speed development exercises. Lausanne Collegiate School, featuring its beautiful new indoor athletic complex and spacious outdoor training facility, will play host to runners from all over the tri-state area. The camp will be directed by Lausanne’s cross country and track coach, Jonas Holdeman, a USATF Level III endurance coach and long-time trainer of top athletes from around the country. Coach Holdeman has trained athletes of all abilities at the youth, high school, collegiate and post-collegiate level for over twenty years, and has been the featured expert in publications such as Runner’s World and Men’s Health magazines. The camp promises to be the best week of any young runner’s summer 2012!

Campers will spend time each day working on shooting, cradling, passing, dodging and defense. These skills will be taught and practiced through a variety of scrimmages and games including mini-goal games, sharks and minnows, Thunderdome and many more. Campers will also have the opportunity to watch past NCAA championship games. Beginners are welcome. Bio Blitz

Campers can use cameras, drawings, jeweler’s loupes and binoculars, along with guidebooks and internet resources, to make a collaborative journal of our findings. We will publish our findings in a nature blog.

Dirt Detectives: Doodles and Drawings in Nature

Photo Eyes: Learning to See and Photograph

July 23 - July 27 • 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.Mavis Negroni Fee: $125In Nature Photography participants will learn to use digital cameras to document their findings in nature. Each camper will learn the basics of nature photography and how to photograph for artistic vs. documentary purposes. From the photos, we will create a nature journal. We will identify our findings and learn to use nature guidebooks. Campers will have the opportunity to participate in a citizen science project, like Project Noah or the Dragonfly Swarm project.

Middle School Bootcamp

Drop-off Procedures

BeforeCare (7:30 – 8:45 a.m.)

Campers must be signed in by a parent or guardian in the Summer Office, located in the EPAC gallery.

Morning Camp (9:00 a.m.)

On Mondays, ALL campers must check in at the desk located in the lobby of the EPAC, where you will receive nametags designating classes and times. An assistant will escort you to where you will meet with your Instructor in the Upper Middle School building.. If you are coming for a 12:30 p.m. activity ONLY, report to the EPAC where you will receive a nametag and be shown to class. From Tuesday through Friday, campers dropped off for a 9:00 a.m. class will report directly to the same classroom, where the teacher will be waiting. Campers coming at 12:30 p.m. will wait in the EPAC until 12:30 p.m., when they will be walked to class.

Please note the following important informationregarding Summers @ Lausanne:

• Lausanne is a peanut-freeenvironment. Please do send peanutproducts with your child to camp.

• Camp will be closed Wednesday, July 4thto honor the 4th of July holiday.

Early Pick-up or Late Arrival

Please come to the Summer Office to sign your camper in or out when picking up early or arriving late. Campers will not be dismissed from their classrooms or activity; campers must be checked out from the main office in EPAC.

Medication NoteSchool personnel must have parent/guardian consent and a physician’s order to administer prescription medication. Overthe-counter medications require parent consent. This permission must be in written form and on record in the summer office. Written parent and physician authorization must be renewed annually. For all medication, the most current, appropriately-labeledoriginal container must be provided. If the student receives prescription medication from more than one physician, each physician must provide written permission. All medication must be maintained in the Summer Office and administered according to label instructions and at the discretion of the summer staff. If it is necessary for the student to retain possession of medication (i.e., inhalers), the procedure must be discussed with the summer staff. The medication request must be in writing. A written Asthma Action Plan, to address emergencies and care of asthma while in school, must be included. Please do not send any medication with your child to keep in his or her backpack or pocket to self-administer. This policy is for the safety of all our students and we appreciate your cooperation in the

matter.

Camp StoreEach day, campers have the opportunity to visit our camp store on campus. Snacks range from $0.10 to $1.00. The camp store also sells various camp items, such as t-shirts, bracelets, water bottles, etc. A parent mayopen an account for the child with price limits for each day so the child does not have to carry money to camp. If you do send money daily, please send the money in a Ziploc bag with your child’s name on it.
