Fredericksburg Parks and Recreation Department is home to over 25 camps for children and teens, ages 3 to 18. For the past 16 years, campers have enjoyed expert and caring instructors, and the most exciting curriculum available, without ever leaving the city!

Th is camp program features activities designed to promote skill development in a variety of sports, sports-manship, and a whole lot of fun for your 4-6 year old. No age waivers. $10 late fee begins June 11.

Our summer clinics off er opportunities for everyone - basics for beginners, repetition for advanced beginners, strategy and competition for intermediates, and challenging drills and mental concepts for the advanced. Sports Camps

Th e campers get a chance to work on dribbling, passing, shooting, and game strategy while having lots of fun. Campers are encouraged to wear loose fi tting clothes and bring a water bottle to camp each day. $10 late fee begins June 11.

Soccer Camp

Participants will have an opportunity to learn soccer, baseball, basketball, volleyball, football, kickball, fi eld hockey, and lawn games during this week long camp. Campers will spend time inside and outdoors so please dress appropriately. $10 late fee begins June 18.

Th e Sky High basketball camp is fi ve days of basketball designed to increase a player’s skills and court knowledge in a fun and non-competitive environment. Whether your child is a beginner or one who has been playing since they could walk, this camp is a great way to begin or improve one’s skills. $10 late fee begins June 18.

Our trained instructors teach you the fundamentals of this sophisticated sport. Learn stances and how to foil. For those that have taken beginning foil, try something new: learn saber or epee. Try fast-paced speed & power of saber or the precision and tactics of epee. Kids Engineering

Horseback Riding CampWhite Buff alo Horse Farm is providing a horse camp for boys and girls ages 6 to 18, regardless of their riding experience. We will be getting on a horse everyday, working on trail riding skills and horse showing techniques including Western and English style of riding. General horse care and grooming will also be covered. Culminating demonstration will be exhibited on the last day of camp.

Stranded on an abandoned island - surrounded by darkness, cold temperatures, wild animals, and other dangers. Students in this camp will join tribes and compete in various engineering-related challenges against other tribes to survive and eventually escape the harsh island conditions. Join us in the fi rst ever Engineering for Kids® Survivor challenge!

During the LEGO® Rescue Robots camp, students design and program robots to respond to simulated disaster situations such as moving rubble and retrieving targets.

Students will use Multimedia Fusion 2® to create their own video game. Students design a racetrack, race cars and an environment in which their cars compete. Students take home a copy of the game they create.

Electronic Game Design- Racing Games

Zero to sixty in two seconds?! How fast can an object go without compromising safety? Students in this camp will work with their Pit Crew to design and build vehicles, such as dragsters and hovering levitrons, which should able to withstand astonishing speeds. Fasten your seat belt, the race has begun!

Nature and Survivor Camps

• Birth Certifi cate Required! Important Information

Camp Hideaway Th is beloved day camp is fi lled with adventure! Designed for kids entering Kindergarten or 1st grade in the fall, each themed morning is packed with nature craft s, hiking, discovery, games, story, snack time, and friends! We safely explore, splash in the creek, and get up-close and hands-on with the natural world. Space is limited, but quality is guaranteed…so sign up early! A detailed letter will be sent to all registered camp-ers. (Campers may register for one week only.)

Camp Wildwood Celebrate TWENTY years of our popular nature day camp! Come “over the river and through the woods” to the shore of Motts Run Reservoir for a wild week immersed in the natural world. Each day will be fi lled with canoeing, hiking, nature craft s, super snacks, friends, and outdoor skills like fi re-building. We’ll explore, learn about wildlife, and much more. Don’t miss out on a great week of discovery! A detailed letter will be sent to all registered campers. (For kids currently in grades 1-6 – see individual sessions. Nature and Survivor Camps

Teens – unplug and jump in to the natural world! We’ll spend two days at Motts Run Reservoir where we’ll learn canoeing skills (including swamping and rescue), and outdoor skills like fi re-building and map and compass, enjoy team-building activities, hiking, nature craft s and more. Th e other two days will fi nd us on the Rappahannock River, canoeing for the day or tubing through the Falmouth Rapids (a much shorter trip than last year!) with a picnic at Old Mill Park. Designed for teens currently in grades 7-9…don’t miss out on a week you won’t forget!

Teen Adventure Camp

Fishing Adventures! is a popular 2-day camp off ered at Motts Run Reservoir. Sponsored by Virginia Fish-ing Adventures (www.virginiafi shingadventures.com), this introduction to freshwater fi shing promises to teach eager kids to fi sh! Campers will learn the basics of casting, knot tying, baiting hooks, choosing lures, and understanding fi sh and their habitat. Of course some serious fi shing at Motts Run will also occur! All equipment and tackle provided. A letter including what to bring, directions to Motts Run, and a health form will be sent at a later date to all registered campers. For kids aged 7-12 only.

Fishing Adventures

Do you have what it takes to Survive? Challenge yourself mentally and physically in the water, in the air, and on the ground. Participants will learn rock climbing, canoeing, ropes course skills, and much more during this week long team building camp. $10 late fee begins July 9.

Th e Adventure Day Camp is a week-long fi shing camp for 7-14 year-olds. Sponsored by Virginia Fishing Adventures (www.virginiafi shingadventures.com), the camp is designed to teach the entire process of fi sh-ing from rigging rods, tying knots, canoeing, and baiting hooks, all while introducing campers to the great wealth of fi shing opportunities in the area. Campers will meet at the Virginia Outdoor Center, then load into vans and head to a mixture of private ponds or the Rappahannock and Rapidan Rivers—for several nice river fl oats during the week. All equipment provided, and Scouts may earn their fi shing merit badge. A letter including what to bring, directions, and a health form will be sent at a later date to all registered campers. (Registration will begin Feb.1)

In this age group we will be singing songs, learning poems, making puppets, and lots of other fun activities. We will also perform at the “grand fi nale,” but we emphasize fun.

Up with the Arts - Kindergarten

Using their imaginations, props, costumes, and sets they design, this age group will travel through their imagination, acting out short plays and skits. Your child will perform in the grand fi nale production. We’ll also have plenty of time for hands-on arts and craft s, stories, and just plain fun.

Up with the Arts - Grades 1-2

Our older group will produce a small play from start to fi nish - selecting parts, designing sets and simple costumes, rehearsal, and the fi nal production! Lots of fun for everyone! Th e children will be exposed to music, drama, and lots of creative play, as well as some of the support work (such as costume and set design) that brings such a production together. Th ey will also have art projects that compliment their dramatic work, and plenty of time for exploring the park, and free play. Everyone participates, gains a sense of accomplishment, and has lots of fun.

Dance and Cheer Camps

Calling all Princes and Princesses! Experience the magical world of dance in our Fairy tale mini summer dance camp. Each day will be fi lled with fairytale-themed dance classes, story time, craft s and activities for girls and boys ages 3 to 7. On the last day of class students will perform for family and friends and leave with their own special crown. Please provide a snack each day for your child!

Fairy-tale Mini Dance

Calling all Cheerleaders, Dancers, or anyone wanting to have a blast while learning something new! During this camp students will experience chants, cheers, dance technique, gymnastics, and basic stunts to improve their cheerleading and dance skills. Th is class is designed to increase self-confi dence and friendships while keeping your child actively engaged over the summer. All family and friends will be invited to watch their child perform on the last day of our workshop.

Explosion Cheer and Dance Camp

Anyone age 12-18 (6th-12th) is welcome to learn the exciting dance and pom routines from our experienced instructors, in this fast-paced, 3-night workshop. Learn the moves, chants and cheers the pros use! New routines and cheers this year, will keep the energy high! We’ll keep you busy and you’ll learn a lot-- but most importantly, you’ll have a great time! Bring a snack and water bottle. Wear shorts and tennis shoes. No experience necessary.

Starfi res Junior Hot Ice & Extreme Dance Camp

Th is is exciting chance to learn high-spirited dance and cheer routines, while developing poise, coordination, and showmanship! Learn motions, kicks, jumps, leaps, turns, cheers, chants, and a variety of dance styles to great music! Th is class is a chance to prepare for high school tryouts, as well as perform in local parades, shows, and competitions! Join the award-winning, team-spirited Starfi res and bring a friend with you! No experience necessary!

Dance and Cheer Camps

Aquatic Camps

Th is camp is designed for swimmers who have little or no prior competitive experience or lack a substan-tial training background. Not a beginner swim lesson program! Th e specifi c focus of the camp is on stroke technique, mental discipline, race strategy, and strengthening exercises, while also emphasizing respect, cooperation, and most importantly, the element of having fun while swimming. Beginner: Must have some swimming experience! Swimmers must be able to complete at least 25 yards of freestyle. Intermediate: Swimmers must be able to swim 50 yards of freestyle and backstroke and should have basic knowledge of all general strokes.

Camp A.I.M (Aquatics in Motion) Beginner to Intermediate

Th e specifi c focus of the camp is on stroke technique, mental discipline, race strategy, and strengthening exercises, while also emphasizing respect, cooperation, and most importantly, the element of having fun while swimming. Advanced: It is expected that swimmers can complete at least 100 yards of freestyle and has basic knowledge of all general strokes. Th e emphasis of this level will be on improving the technique of all four strokes, starts and turns.

Summer Fun Festival

A wonderful 2 weeks for your child who will enter pre-school in the Fall of 2013 (must be 4 years old by September 30, 2013 - birth certifi cate required. We’ve got ten days full of stimulating activities: arts & craft s, play movement, games, stories and cooking. Group size limited.

Pee Wee

Children register for this program using their current school grade (2012-2013 year). Each child chooses a tract containing six (three each week) fun classes from the list for his-her ages group. Classes are fi lled on a fi rst-come, fi rst-served basis. We do our best to give each child as many of his-her fi rst tract choice as possible. Th e children attend three classes throughout the morning, so they experience a variety of activi-ties. With everything from Cooking to Sports, Arts and Craft s to Science Experiments, your child will have a great time exploring the topics of his/her choice. And no matter what the choices, your chid will have a ton of fun!

Kindergarten, 1st & 2nd, 3rd & 4th

An exciting 2 weeks for your children who will enter Kindergarten in the Fall of 2013 (must be 5 years old by September 30, 2013) - birth certifi cate required. Your child will play games, sing songs, hear stories, tumble, do arts & craft s, and even cooking! Group size is limited.
