SPORTS CAMPS FOR GRADES 5-8 All camps open to girls and boys

Basketball Camp Fee: $150 June 18th - June 22nd12:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.If you would like to improve your skills, work hard and have fun, then this is the place for you! This week will focus on fundamental skills, including passing, shooting and dribbling. Offensive and defensive techniques will be covered. Please wear athletic attire and athletic shoes, no experience necessary.

Soccer Camp Fee: $150 June 18th - June 22nd12:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.Soccer for life! If you would like to improve your skills, work hard and have fun, then this is the place for you! This week will focus on fundamental skills, including passing, shooting and dribbling. Offensive and defensive techniques will be covered. Please wear athletic attire and bring shin guards, no experience necessary.

Multi Sport Camp Fee: $150June 25th - 29th12:30 p.m. - 2:30 p.m.If you would like to explore many different team sports, this camp is for you. You will learn fundamentals for sports like, lacrosse, soccer, basketball, volleyball, field hockey, and many more. You will have the opportunity to try many different sports and see what you enjoy most! Please wear athletic attire and athletic shoes, no experience necessary.

Volleyball Camp Fee: $150 June 25th - 29th12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.Designed to teach you the game of volleyball, this camp will focus on development and fundamental skills including passing, setting, serving, and defense. Please wear athletic attire and bring knee pads. No experience necessary.

6th Grade Math Fee: $300 8:15 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. This class is specially designed for rising 6th graders. Using a kinesthetic approach and hands-on activities, this class is designed to review and strengthen the fraction, percentage, and decimal foundation skills that are critical for success in middle school math courses, including Algebra. Plotting pairs on the coordinate plane will also be covered as graphing provides an introduction to negative integers as well as problem-solving with two variables. In addition, students are encouraged to suggest their own topics of math inquiry, which the class will explore together.

Ceramics - Grades 5-8 Fee: $300 plus $30 for materialsSession 1: 8:15 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. Session 2: 10:15 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Join us this summer in La Reina’s new ceramic studio and take an introductory class in clay, creating innovative works using traditional pottery building techniques in a safe and relaxing atmosphere. Students will be encouraged to discover their own inner artist through clay.

Lego Robotics - Grades 5-8Fee: $15010:15 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Want to build and program a robot? In this hands-on course, you will have fun while learning to use motors and sensors to add behavior and movement to your robot, bringing your robot to life!

Mock Trial - Grades 5-8Fee: $300 plus $10 book fee for Pocket Constitution10:15 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Have fun while learning from a real courtroom judge how our laws and court system operate. The instructor, Judge T. Kitchens, is one of the coaches of La Reina’s Mock Trial Team – 21 time Ventura County Mock Trial Champions! Learn the skills of trial advocacy, how to examine witnesses, give opening statements, and make closing arguments. There will be hands-on experience with a fictional case, and the opportunity to play the roles of attorney, witness, and court helpers.

Decide why slope is a significant entity in the real world. Find out the difference between probability and odds. Jump start your basic understanding of Algebra.

Study Skills For Middle School - Grades 5-8Fee: $150 plus $15.95 book feeJune 18th - 22nd, 10:15 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. June 25th - 29th, 10:15 - 12:00 p.m. Are you a little worried about the demands of middle school? Perhaps you would like to sharpen your study skills? The skills learned in this class will provide a solid foundation for developing the study skills needed for success in middle school, high school, and college. Topics include understanding the process of learning, learning styles and strategies for developing your own unique abilities, creating and sticking with a pre-learning routine, ways to become an active learner, note taking techniques, critical reading skills, and tips for success on assessments.

The Secret to Writing - Grades 5-8Fee: $300 10:15 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.

Would you like to know the secret to writing well? This class is for students who want to have fun with reading and writing and learn valuable skills along the way. Workshops, games, “book club” style meetings, and energizing literary activities galore! We will discuss relevant authors and learn to write in various styles. After this class you will be ready to wow your English teacher in the fall!

Algebra I Fee: $300 10:15 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. Become familiar with the basics of Algebra I. This two-week course will present basic properties involving numbers, variables, and equations. Problem solving applications are part of the classroom experience.

Speech - Grades 7-10Fee: $750June 18 - July 20 8:15 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.

This course will teach students to become effective communicators and will cover the methods of proper research, speech structure and style, editing skills and delivery tech-niques. Students will receive a semester credit with successful completion of this program. (This course is not UC approved.)
