Think ahead and plan NOW… Attention 4 th , 5 th , and 6 th grade 4-H’ers! This is your last chance to sign up for Summer Camp (June 3-7, 2013) through the East Baton Rouge Parish 4-H Office. No matter what you interest is, there is a completion for you! This is your chance to spend three nights in the LSU dorms with over 1500 4-H’ers from all 64 parishes of Louisiana. It’s a great experience for anyone who likes to compete, learn a new skill, or gain leadership and confidence. The EBR staff will happily train all competitors in their chosen area of interest and prepare them for their 4-H University contest. The earlier you contact the office about the many opportunities we have for you, the greater chance you have at finding the contest that suits you best! The cost for three nights in the dorms and registration is $150.00 plus your cost of food and/or snacks. Contact any 4-H agent at the EBR Office for more information. Attention Hose Show Participants! As the District and State Horse shows rapidly approach,

there are a few important reminders:

ALL ENTRIES FORMS AND PAYMENT MUST BE TURNED IN BY MAY13, 2013 District Horse Show will be June 24-27, 2013 in Amite, LA. Please notice the location

change. Also be aware all stalling, shavings, and RV reservations must be handled through

the Amite Facilities. They can be contacted at 985-748-5914

State Horse Show will be July 8-13 , 2013 in Monroe, LA.

Livestock Club News… Livestock Exhibitors, please be aware of a great show opportunity coming up on April 20, 2013. The Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranches will host an open show to be held in Alexandria, Please contact the office for more information. Also, as the weather heats up, be sure to keep your animals cool! Provide lots of shade and water to keep your animals healthy.

Shooting Sports Club

Congratulations to all of the EBR Shooting Sports participants who competed in the March Invitational Shoot on March 2nd

. We’d like to acknowledge the following EBR competitors who placed in their disciplines: Joseph Heine – Jr. Shotgun, tied for 2

nd with 12 hits; Zachary Guillory – Sr. Shotgun, 3-way tie for 1

st with 30 hits; Connor

The EBR Staff as well as the Shooting Sports club would also like to thank all of our volunteers and parents for helping to make the March Invitational Shoot a great success. Let’s keep up the great work at the April Invitational in Ascension on April 13, 2013.

Want to show livestock but don’t know where to start? We’re here to help! EBR Parish is fortunate to have several different opportunities to enable 4-H members to have a livestock project. If you’re interested, please contact Mr. Shawn for additional information.

Fun for the whole family! On April 20th

the EBR 4-H Program will host our annual Trees, Trails, and Clovers. This event will be held at the Burden Center off Essen Lane in Baton Rouge. This will be a family-friendly, fun-filled event with lots of interactive booths, activities, and lots of free giveaways! Be sure to mark your calendar and reserve this Saturday for an awesome experience. Be on the lookout for more information coming your way soon! The event starts at 10:00 am and will run until 2:00 pm. Admission will be $5/car. There will be food, raffle opportunities, t-shirts and more!

Trees, Trails & Clovers

In an effort to increase our social media reach, the East Baton Rouge 4-H Program has kicked off our “Show Us Some Love” campaign via Facebook. The contest is simple and couldn’t be easier. Here’s what you do: Step 1—Find EBR 4-H on Facebook (search for us under EBR Parish 4-H) Step 2—Click the “like” button Step 3—Relax and wait and see if you’re our lucky winner! When we reach 300 likes, we will draw a random name of one of our friends to receive a $50 gift certificate of their choice!

Horse Enthusiasts, EBR 4-H has a few contests perfect for you! There will be a hose quiz bowl team, horse judging team

and speech contests available to you. Contact Mr. Shawn for more info on these great opportunities.

The LSU AgCenter is proud to present the 2013 Ag Magic Event to be held at the John M. Parker Coliseum on the LSU Baton Rouge Campus. The event will run from April 22-26 for school tours and open April 27-28 for the general public from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. This fun, interactive event allows participants to walk through the various different agriculture industries that are found in Louisiana. From agronomy to zoology, attendees will witness and experience it all. Hands-on stations allows youngsters to see first hand what agriculture really is. Most exhibits are geared towards youngster up to 5th grade level; however, this event is great for the whole family! Mark your calendars, you won’t want to miss it!

2013 Ag Magic

4-H Day at the CapitolHere’s a chance for your voice to be heard! Join us on the steps of the Louisiana State Capitol for the 12

th

Annual 4-H Day at the Capitol on May 29, 2013! This special event allows legislators from all parts of the state to hear the voices of 4-H’ers as we advocate for the Louisiana 4-H program. Along with this FREE event, you will receive a t-shirt and the chance to meet a representative or senator for East Baton Rouge Parish. All you have to do is register with Mr. Shawn at the EBR Parish Office! We look forward to seeing you on the front steps!

This large-scale event requires many people to put on. If you’re interested in volunteering your time and efforts, please contact the EBR 4-H Office to get signed up. Various time slots are available and any help is welcomed.

Give Change to Make a ChangeChange for Change is well underway across East Baton Rouge Parish. This parish-wide community service project started on February 4th and will run through April 12, 2013. Clubs are encouraged to participate and collect as much change as possible. At the conclusion of this contest, we will tally up and figure total values collected. From there the school that collects the most change will be able to select 4 representatives to join us to present a check the a Baton Rouge Area charity of their choice. All change collected will go towards making a positive change in our community and making EBR a better place. If your school is interested in participating, please contact the EBR 4-H Office to get your official Change for Change collection jar. Don’t wait, contribute TODAY!

LOST CampLouisiana Outdoor Science & Technology Camp Are you a 7

th or 8

th grader feeling sad because you are too

old for 4-H Summer Camp? Don’t get down, get LOST at the Louisiana Outdoors Science and Technology Camp! This camp is specifically for students in 7

th and 8

th grade and

focuses on the aspects of science, engineering, and technology. Camp begins on Monday, August 5

th and ends

on Friday, August 9th. Tracks include Wetlands, Energy,

Videography, Kitchen Connections, and Outdoor Skills. Please contact Ms. Abby at [email protected] for more information.
