“How far that little candle throws its beam! So shines a good deed in a

weary world.” Good work reveals itself over time, its ambiguities and subtle-

ties converging with the reader’s mind, adapting to contemporary circum-

stances. Shakespeare’s reputation has grown for 450 years and his best works

have cheerfully resisted every theory and interpretation thrown at them.

DPS Jodhpur is known to extend its boundaries in the fields of art, music,

literature, education and what not. It added one more feather to its cap by

celebrating the 450th birth anniversary of the Bard of Avon William

Shakespeare. The great Director Mr. Parnab Mukherjee graced the occasion

with his drama troupe. Mr. Mukherjee has carved a niche for himself in the world of dramatics. It is

Mr. Parnab Mukherjee who has performed Shakespeare on a rickshaw and Tagore in an abandoned printing press. It is

he who believes, “Your grand mother’s recipe will do for a performance”. His

group takes up contemporary issues to underline the framework of our time

while providing the best of entertainment. The troupe was escorted by ace

classical dancer and English teacher of Mayo College, Ajmer Mrs. Sheelu

Ramchandran.

The programme kick started with a brief summary of Merchant of Venice and

a description of the central character Shylock. The introduction of Shylock

was supported by a strong point of view which says that every negative

character is not negative by choice but by circumstances. The

characterization of Shylock was compared with various other characters like

Shakuni and Kans. The fact of negativity was supported by the blood stained videos of Iraq and Bhopal Gas tragedy clip-

pings. Shylock was seen introducing himself as “I am not ruthless” and “See my human side”. Difference between empa-

thy and sympathy was depicted by the brilliant actors. The play came out to

be a satire on democracy and a tribute to William Shakespeare. The play

came to its culmination point with the emotionally charged song Jai Hey.

Director Mr. Mukherjee suggested the students to use good dramatics to

express their views. School Principal Mr. B.S. Yadav appreciated the troupe

and advised the students to have an unschooled mindset. The celebration

ended with a memento presentation to Mr. Parnab Mukherjee and Mrs.

Sheelu Ramchandran.

Special Assembly on Earth Day

We celebrate this day to remind ourselves about the beautiful gift we have been given in the form of the planet Earth.

After watching the video a discussion on ‘Duties and Responsibilities’ towards our environment, our planet, our city, our surroundings and our home was held.

Teaching Yoga asanas is a wonderful way to encourage our children to a healthy life

style. To meet the need weekly yoga classes and meditation helps in total well-being

of the learner and to have a healthy body and mind. It channelises the attention of

the young minds towards positive side of life. Therefore to meet the brighter side

some basic yogic exercises are taught to the students of class IV and V in the

school premises. It is followed in five steps namely warm-up, breathing, postures,

relaxation and reawakening. Some asanas such as Tadasana, Bhujangasana and

Virbhadrasana are really very helpful for students. At the least Yoga can be a gentle

Dr.Bhimrao Ambedkar's birthday is celebrated all over the country on 14th April. He is the father of the Indian constitution. To celebrate this occasion a special assembly was per-formed by the students of class 3 A in the premises of Delhi Public School, Jodhpur. Inculcating healthy eating habits has always been our priority. ’Fruit Chat’ activity is

the first step in this direction. To encourage the kids to eat fruits ,a T.V. show was con-

very interesting and effective, thus, motivating the children to participate in the upcom-

Teachers are the role model for their students. The tiny tots follow them word to word. What can be a better tool than ’Role Play’ by the teachers to encourage the kids to self- motivate to adapt good manners.

The teachers of pre primary classes enacted a story on ‘Good Manners’ in a special assembly on Monday,28th of April. It was a story of two siblings portraying two oppo-site characters. The teachers played their roles so efficiently that the objective behind conducting the assembly was achieved quite easily. The young minds enthusiastically responded to the different questions asked at the conclusion of the assembly.

A Report On The Assembly On “Good Manners”

A Report On The Assembly On “Puppet Show”

Puppet Shows appeal, entertain and captivate the young minds. Kids can believe and relate, enter and explore the fas-cinating world that the puppets create.

The pre primary teachers of DPS Jodhpur used this effective medium very efficiently on Monday ,5th of May 2014 to tell the story of a little lamb and his journey to its grandmother’s place. With the help of effective voice modulation, the teachers brought the characters of different wild animals into life. The show grabbed the attention of the little audience and each and every learner was observed responding to the show.

The much sought after event of the evening was the dance drama “Samay Ki Pukaar”. The first scene initiated with the historical characters of Manu and Shraddha from Jai Shankar Prasad’s Kamayani. The great deluge described the metaphorical presentation of Earth’s creation. Then gradually the mindset of the new generations started changing. People started cutting trees and humiliated the nature and its systems. Upcoming of concrete forests was exhibited through awesome displays. A street play was staged to acquaint the audience with ways to save water. This was followed by the appearance of the lead protagonist Antariksh and his friends. The lead characters represented today’s callous mindset towards the Mother Nature. A mesmerizing rope dance was performed by the school thespians. The future of the earth was displayed when Antariksh used a time machine to see his future. An aged version of Rishabh and Antariksh was manifested when they had turned grandparents. The futuristic scenes were peppered by stunning dance performances and caricatures. A very thrilling and breath taking session of dialogues was seen between Antariksh and his grandson Jo. Finally the drama came to an emotionally charged end with a question, “It’s only good till the last drop, then what?”

Chief Guest of the evening Mr.Vineet Joshi acknowledged the hard work and vibrance of the students and staff. Remaining of Annual Function….

It was followed by a workshop on “Professionalism” on 23rd May, 2014, conducted by Ms. Sangeeta Gupta and Ms. Saroj Bhati. They informed that professionalism is a mandatory quality, to be possessed by every educator. He should keep in mind that relationships are to be maintained with students. The teachers who inspire, guide and help students can have a lasting influence on students. Students and staff members should interact to have a warm, open and positive atmosphere. But, a certain distance must be maintained between students and staff in order to achieve the educational mission of the school. The third day’s workshop was conducted on the topic “Language Development” by Ms. Vasudha Lal and Mr. Dalpat Singh Rathore. The workshop started with a videos and activities which showed that only words don’t mean language and communication. Things can be communicated without using words and by using gestures. Different gestures and character traits were explained and discussed. The next step of the session was a workshop on “Reflective Teaching” by Mr. Mukesh Sharma, Ms. Neelam Nandwani and Anita Mathur. This workshop started on a soothing note with meditation. They told teachers to break barriers and communicate with students so that students should understand their points of view. They explained with videos, skits and examples that an effective teacher is a good person who meets the needs of the community as a good citizen and an employee. A good teacher needs to be honest, hard working, organized, authoritative, disciplined and generous. A teacher’s teachings can be effective only if it is achievement oriented and insightful. 28th May, 2014 saw the workshop on “Understanding Learners needs and Analysis” by Ms. Purnima Rajvi, Ms. Vidhi Bulani and Ms. Anju Sharma. On this day, the audience were randomly divided into six groups. The resource persons described the different needs of learners. But there are a few students in a class who are able to attain knowledge only by doing the things. They are basically kinaesthetically charged. The workshop helped the participants to apply methods meaningfully in teaching and learning activities, enabling

them to plan lessons more effectively. Developing content and preparing materials and integrating active learning

methods were the goals of the workshops. The teachers were enriched with different teaching and learning facts.

Teachers reflected their own teaching style and experiences with new approaches to learning. The teachers con-

ducting the workshop proved the lines of Lily Tomlin correct, “I like a teacher who gives you something to take home

to think about besides home work.”

The eight days workshop session ended with a cultural fiesta, on 30th May, 2014, under the vigilant eyes of Ms.

Abhilasha Shaw and Mr. Mukesh Kalla. School teachers presented song and dance performances which were

guided by the school dance and music teachers. An exhibition of paintings and art and craft work was displayed

which the teachers had prepared with the help of art and craft teachers. Mural Paintings, Clay work, Quilling Art, etc.
