Company FEMC PRATIBHA JVCLIENT DMRC

LOCATION CC-18, BCP, NEW DELHI

DURATION 02/05/2015 to 01/07/2015

MY ASSIGNMENT 1. Understanding the methodology used for tunneling by using Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM)

2. Time delay analysis for the Down line tunnel.

Assignment 1 Target date : No target date, only for self learning process.

Activities: TBM methodology, Ring building process.

Assignment 2 Target date: 25/06/2015Status : Achieved on timeActivities: Analyzing production reports of last 6 months.

Overview of Internship:

Assignment 1: Construction methodology.

Tunnel Construction: By using Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) with cut and cover approach. Outer dia = 6.6 mInner dia = 5.8 mLength = 90 m (TBM + Backup )

Front shield: Cutting wheelsMiddle shield: Screw conveyor Tail skin shield : Ring building

Phases in tunneling by TBM:1. Tunneling phase.2. Ring Building phase.

Downline tunnel

Upline tunnel

Page 6: summer internship

Cutting wheels rotates and pressed against the tunnel phase with a pressure.

Under this high pressure disc cutters and cutting knives loosen the material on tunnel phase.

Conditioning of soil.Excavated soil is then transported from invert area to a belt

conveyor by a screw conveyer.Tunneling phase is completed.

Tunneling phase:

Page 7: summer internship

Complete tunnel ring consist of several segments called lining segments.

Segment info :Inner dia = 5.8 mLength = 1.4 mThickness = 275 mmRing arrangement = 5+1

Ring building phase:

Page 8: summer internship

Transported into the tunnel by locomotives. In first section of backup segment lifted individually by transfer

crane. Then segment are picked up and positioned by erector using

remote control.Key segment is installed last.

Ring building process:

Page 9: summer internship

The remaining gap between outer side of the segment and the soil is continuously filled with grout.

It is done to provide bed for the tunnel tube and to stabilize it.

Objective:1. Make a production summary report for the month of May 2015

of down line tunnel.

2. Perform time delay analysis on the production summary report.

3. Find out the reason and solution for the delay in the project.

Assignment 2: Time delay and production summary reports

Delay reason: Major delay is due to supply delays. And waiting for skip activity is the major reason for delays.

Solution: Tunnel team should try to increase the rate of skips, so that saved time could be used for the major activity like excavation and ring building.

Advantage: This model will help the organization to identify that which activity is taking how much time and according to that they can manage them.
