NEXT YEAR27th June - 1st July 2014

WELCOME TO SM2013

Welcome to Summer Madness 2013! It’s our second year in glamorous Glenarm and we’re feeling much more settled in thanks to our wonderful hosts in Glenarm Estate. We’ve made a number of improvements all over the festival site and programme to make your weekend as excellent as possible. We’ve been listening to your suggestions and changing things up where you told us they didn’t work. Having said that, last year was excellent and we have high expectations for 2013!

For groups and group leaders, we’ve cleared a space in the programme each morning that you can meet as a group to discuss what’s been talked about in the Mainstage sessions. There is also additional material available for group leaders to help you steer these sessions that’s been drawn up jointly by Summer Madness and Exodus. Simply ask at the Info Point for a copy of the Leaders’ Booklet.

There are plenty of workshops and seminars to get involved in this weekend, as well as a myriad activities and a bountiful supply of talented musicians to keep you entertained. There are a couple of new venues to explore on-site and, as we’ve brought two of our seminar venues back across the road, all of our 2013 festival can be enjoyed without even leaving the boundaries!

As ever, we’re dedicated to ensuring that everyone has a safe, enjoyable and encouraging weekend. We’re looking forward to hearing stories of changed lives and renewed faith. Relax and enjoy your weekend!

Ps. If you are tweeting about this years’ festival make sure to add #SM2013

THE GUIDE TO THE GUIDE

On each of the pages that follow, every venue has its own colour: be that on the map, in the seminar pages, on the programme guide or even on the arrows that you will see around the site.

For example, the Big Top is shown as a red circus tent on the map. To get there, simply follow the red arrows on site. To see what’s happening in the Big Top, look in the book for the red page.

EMERGENCIESIn the case of an emergency, please contact your sub-camp leader or the campsite office. Medical help is available 24 hours a day. If you need medical help just ask at the St. John Ambulance area or any member of staff.

QUIET PLEASEPLEASE be quiet at night. If you want to stay up late, please respect those who are trying to sleep. Noise carries across the campsite at night. A strict quiet curfew will be enforced in the camping area from 01:00 onwards.

EVENT CREWOur Event Crew work long hours to make your festival experience trouble-free and enjoyable as possible. They have volunteered their time for you, so why not give them a smile (or a couple of your sweets) to let them know they’re appreciated?

ACCESS TO THE BIG TOPAccess to the Big Top is solely available via the Info Point.

LOST WRISTBANDSIf you lose your wristband the cost of a replacement is £5.00. These will only be replaced if verified by your leader (in person) and if ID is presented at the Info Point.

Crossing into any area demarcated by red and white tape is forbidden (this will constitute trespassing, and is punishable by law).

Summer Madness wishes to make it clear that it does not favour sectarian propaganda or proselytizing within the Christian fellowship and anyone involved in these practices will be escorted off-site. This means that any group or individual which uses the SM Festival and its facilities for such purposes does so against the spirit of the event and could face a ban from future events.

Summer Madness reserves the right to cancel any booking (be it that of any individual or group) that the organisers deem necessary and escort all concerned parties off the premises if these ground rules are not observed.

14:00 SOUL SISTA #1 - GETTING A SENSE OF THE GOOD LIFE Susie Keegan & Chloe Hanan | Seminar One

In this seminar, we’ll explore how we can gain an understanding of God by experiencing Him through each of our 5 senses; sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell. This time, Susie & Chloe will be leading the girls in how our sight and hearing can lead us into a closer relationship with God.

MEN MADNESS #1 - GETTING A SENSE OF THE GOOD LIFE David Cavan & Jasper Rutherford | Seminar Two

In this seminar we’ll explore how we can start to gain an understanding of God by experiencing him through each of our 5 senses; sight, hearing, taste, touch and smell. In this seminar, Dave & Jasper will be leading the boys in how our sight & hearing can lead us into a closer relationship with God. SHOW ME THE MONEYJacqui Rob | Tearfund

We’ll be looking at generosity and how we can be generous with our money, time, service and more. We will touch upon how important it is to manage our money effectively, to budget, to plan for the future whilst still being generous with what God gives us.

MINISTRY MATTERS: CALLED & GIFTEDBarry Forde, Keith Neill, Andi McCarroll, Catherine Simpson | CIYD

We are all called to and gifted for ministry in the Church. What does that mean or look like? What’s the difference between being ‘the minister’ and having

‘a ministry’? Join us for an hour of discussion, dialogue and discernment as individuals with differing roles in local churches speak from the heart about why we need young people and adults to step up to serve the wider body of Christ.

SURVIVOR AT SUMMER MADNESSDamien Parle | Yak Shak

Imagine doing Bushcraft at Summer Madness! Our very own experienced Bushcrafter and YWAM-er, Damien Parle, will pass on some basic skills for surviving in the outdoors. Who needs Bear Grylls?! Meet in the Yak Shak before heading off to the woods to hunt some buffalo and mountain goats.

15:15

PAIN BARRIERAlain Emerson | Seminar One

Where is God when it hurts? How do you pray when everything else is falling down around you? Can God really work ALL things together for good? Alain brings some thoughts to these questions from a context of real-life tragedy and encourages us to encounter the hope that only Jesus can bring.

SPINNING RAINBOWS Al Bennett | Seminar Two

Ever woken up to find that everything you ever thought you knew, all you ever hoped for or believed in had simply gone? Where is God? Is there a God? Does he care? Does it matter? If you ever doubt, experience pain, feel out of control or think you might in the future, this seminar is for you.

MAKE THE RHYTHM THAT WILL CHANGE THE WORLDDavid Cavan | Tearfund

‘OK, I get that when God said to love your neighbour as yourself, He really meant it, but what can I do?’ DC explores how we can start to make a real difference in the lives of others by making tiny changes in our daily routine! If you are someone who wants to be part of a generation that really changes the world around you, this seminar is a must!

YOUTH LEADERS STREAM – CHARACTER MATRIX # 1Andrew Masters | CIYD

As leaders, we know that young people are immeasurably more influenced by the people we are, than programmes we run. This seminar will be in three parts: firstly we’ll explore the importance of character; how to nurture and develop it; and ultimately how to live lives marked by courage.

WHAT IS MY SPIRITUAL DNA?YWAM | Yak Shak

Join the YWAM-ers as they give a short session on understanding that all humans have been created with a unique purpose. Receive prayer from our experienced team as they pray for you individually with God’s heart for your life and purpose.

BREATHING IN!Brian Heasley | 24-7 Prayer

In a fast-paced world, how do we practice the art of stillness? Do quiet times mean I have to be quiet? Friends, school, exams, Twitter, Facebook and TV can often leave us breathless. This seminar will help us seek to become more centred and spiritual people in the midst of busy lives.

16:30

EXPERTS NOT NEEDED Lee Saville | Seminar One

There are no experts in the Kingdom of God - only learners. In a world where expertise and professionalism are held in high regard, exams and training are increasingly important to get a job, we’ll explore the seemingly outrageous possibility that Jesus is not looking for experts, or professionals, or perfect people, but might actually want to work with you and me.

SURVIVING DIVORCEMark Russell | Seminar Two

Divorce can be a devastating and painful thing, so how are we supposed to handle it when our parents split up? Perhaps you have a friend going through divorce and you don’t know how to help. Mark shares from his own experience after dealing with his parents splitting up when he was young.

THE WHOLE 9 YARDS: THE UNSEEN YOURick Hill | Exodus Café

This is the first of three seminars, designed to help you go all the way with God. Everyone needs to start well and so this workshop will focus on the first steps. In life, there is a constant pressure to perform, look good and be noticed, but what are we like when no-one is looking?

The big switch up! This year, for the first time we are trying something new as Dave and Simon will be leading Soul Sista and Susie and Chloe will be leading Men Madness. Bring your questions for the opposite sex: this is your chance to try and get into the minds of what guys are thinking. Girls, please take it easy on Dave & Simon! MEN MADNESS #2 – GIRL MEETS BOYSusie Keegan & Chloe Hanan | Seminar Two

The big switch up! This year, for the first time we are trying something new as Dave and Simon will be leading Soul Sista and Susie and Chloe will be leading Men Madness. Bring your questions for the girls, this is your chance to try and get into the minds of what the ladies are thinking. Lads, please be nice to Susie and Chloe! FOLLOWING JESUS AFTER MADNESSMark Russell | Tearfund

The Christian walk is supposed to be just that, a walk! It’s a journey where making a decision to follow Jesus is just the start. Come along for a look at how we can continue to grow in our relationship with Jesus after the music is finished, the tent is packed away, and you feel alone back at home. If you’ve just discovered Jesus for yourself this weekend, we’d recommend this seminar!

MINISTRY MATTERS: POVERTYAndy Flannagan, David Cavan, Chris Cupples, Jade Irwin & others | CIYD

Across the world we have adequate resources to resource nations – food, water and shelter. Why does poverty continue to ravage societies across the world? How does the Church make an impact?

SURVIVOR AT SUMMER MADNESSDamien Parle | Yak Shak

Another chance to do some basic Bushcraft skills with our very own Bear Grylls - aka YWAM-er, Damien Parle. Meet in the Yak Shak and before heading to the woods. Crocodile is on the today’s menu.

15:15

THE DATING DILEMMARachel Gardner & Andre Adefope | Seminar One

What has the Bible got to teach us about fancying someone or even falling in love in the 21st century? We’ll be looking at the age-old ‘how far is too far?’ hot potato, as well as unpacking stuff like how we can choose God’s approach to all aspects of our romantic relationships.

SIN AND HUMAN NATUREStephen Williams and Dr Paul Millar | Seminar Two

Are we hardwired to sin? Are some people worse than others? Is there anything we can do about it? Prof Stephen Williams and Dr Paul Millar will give their perspectives as a theologian and psychiatrist respectively.

SAT NAV VS. SECOND NATURE Andy and Jenny Flannagan | Tearfund

Do we look at character, virtue and discipleship from the wrong end of the telescope? Rather than just following rules, or following your heart, could we look ahead to what we will spend eternity doing and just get into practice for that? Come prepared to pick up some habits that just might transform you and your community.

YOUTH LEADERS STREAM – CHARACTER MATRIX # 2Andrew Masters | CIYD

Building on #1, we’ll look specifically at the journey from foolishness to wisdom and greed to generosity. #1 and #2 will allow us to examine the state of our souls, and welcome the voice of Jesus into those places.

STAND BY MEAl Bennett | Yak Shak

Stand by Me is a movement of people committed to rescuing and caring for the world’s poorest and most vulnerable children. With live music and short films, this fantastic workshop will open eyes to the world around us so that we may be part of seeing His will be done here on earth as in heaven.

PRAYER SPACES IN SCHOOLSBrian Heasley | 24-7 Prayer

Brian gives us great tips and tactics in setting up and hosting prayer spaces in school. 24-7 Prayer has seen an amazing increase in these in England and would love to see more started here.

16:30

ONE WAY TICKET TO HELLStephen Williams | Seminar One

We’re pretty sure we know what happens when you go to the good place, but what about the other place? Is Hell something we need to think a lot about as modern

Christians? Professor Stephen Williams takes us through different theological perspectives on Hell.

IS THIS IT? Lee Saville | Seminar Two

So many Christians live out their lives feeling that there must be more. I believe, I go to church, I sing my heart out. Is that it? The whole of Creation is waiting - but waiting for what? This seminar will explore the idea of mission and that there may be something very real for us to do.

THE WHOLE 9 YARDS: GOODY TWO-SHOES Beth Tays | Exodus Café

The second episode in the series looking at the fruits of the spirit. We know the people who have impacted us most in our lives – they are not celebrities or superstars, often they are teachers, friends, neighbours, family. They generally show us goodnees, gentleness and kindness - qualities Jesus says we too can bear.

THE STORY WE FIND OURSELVES IN Jenny Flannagan | Yak Shak

Are the stories in the Bible so familiar to you that they’ve stopped meaning anything? In this workshop, writer and actress Jenny Flannagan will help us dive inside the stories we know all too well to rediscover their brilliance and wonder. Come with your imagination and a pen, and discover the storyteller inside you.

Dave has escaped the girls and is back to lead the men/boys/lads/geezers. THE POWER TO TRANSFORMWilson Beare, Phil Hulks and others | Tearfund

Do you long to see your community transformed? Whether it’s inner city or rural, online or local community, we’ll explore principles, ideas, dreams for reaching our unique communities for Jesus and seeing His Kingdom come. We’ll be hearing stories from across the UK that will encourage and inspire you in

what God has called you to.

SURVIVOR AT SUMMER MADNESS Damien Parle | Yak Shak

Final chance to learn some basic Bushcraft skills with Damien Parle.

MINISTRY MATTERS: FOR WHAT IT’S WORTH!?Andrew Brannigan, Barry Forde, Rev. Joanne Megarrell, Joe McKeown, Gillian Best | CIYD

The Church at its core is missional. Despite having potential to be a vibrant and valuable resource to the ministry of a church, Youth Ministry can often seem like an accessory to the Church rather being an essential ingredient. Join the discussion among others as we explore the tensions that exist between youth ministry and the overall vision and mission of the church.

15:15 MONEY, SEX OR POWER Peter Lynas | Seminar One

This seminar will look at some of the main character flaws that affect Christians - particularly those in leadership. We all have our weaknesses: the key is to recognise and deal with them. We will explore together how we ‘live rightly’ in relation to money, sex, power and other issues so we can effectively lead others.

TRANSFORMERSJasper Rutherford | Seminar Two

Whoever tells the best story shapes our culture. This is simply a session to hear and tell stories of what God has done in our lives. Come prepared to share your story in three minute bites. Be encouraged in your faith as you hear how God has changed the lives of others. We also have a few special guests who will share their story too!

BREATHING OUT! Brian Heasley | 24-7 Prayer

How do we live a truly Christ-like life and how can prayer help us? How do I know God is speaking and not just my imagination? How do I pray for others?

16:30

SCIENCE, GOD AND THE FLYING SPAGHETTI MONSTER Dr David Glass | Seminar One

According to the mindset of the New Atheism, ‘Summer Madness’ is a good name for a Christian festival because belief in God is irrational, no

more rational than belief in the Flying Spaghetti Monster. This seminar provides a response to Richard Dawkins and the other New Atheists by addressing such questions as: Does science undermine belief in God? Does science undermine atheism? What about the big bang and evolution?

THE RAIN Lee Saville | Seminar Two

If only life were simple. If it could just be one continuous festival surrounded by my friends with a great sound system somewhere in the background. Unfortunately, it’s not. The sun doesn’t shine everyday. So how do we survive in the “real world” after Summer Madness?

THE WHOLE 9 YARDS: LOVING, LAUGHING AND LASTINGNeil & Janet Young | Exodus Café

The final episode in the series. We live in a time when everything is instant - where relationships are easily disposed and where the glass always seems half empty, but we follow a God who loves us unconditionally, commits to us completely and whose cup overflows! How do we live a life that is full of love, lived with joy and lasts the course in today’s world?

The Yak Shak is ba(c)k! Youth With A Mission Ireland and Urban Saints present a broad range of workshops, seminars, music, bushcraft, activities, dance and even a café in a chilled out environment. In the afternoons, there will be seminars and chill out space. In the evenings, the place is transformed into an arts venue.

Sign up for all activities is available in the Yak Shak.

Urban Saints are passionate about working with children and young people, helping them to realise their God-given potential. Underpinning all of their work is the strong belief that Christianity works in the 21st Century and Jesus was speaking the truth when He said He offers the most fulfilling life.

YWAM Ireland are a small missional community from different nations, working around Ireland. From the Shankill Road, Belfast, to the streets of Burundi, schools in Lebanon or the checkpoints of Bethlehem, they are dedicated to living lives of indiscriminate kindness and service to Christ; rooted in strategic community and outreach.

The prayer room is a creative and interactive space for you to come and spend time chatting with God.

This year in particular 24-7 Prayer Ireland are challenging people to ASK BIG! To pray big audacious, faith-filled prayers for your family, friends, church and the nation! We also want to say a BIG thank you to God for all that He is doing. Remember whatever we could ask, think or imagine God is able to do immeasurably more.

The 24-7 Prayer venue also host the Big House Ireland, who will be holding a free Christian counselling service.

The prayer room will be closed during Mainstage sessions and to access the prayer room between 00:00 - 07:00, you will need to collect a pass at the prayer room during the previous day. For more information on prayer rooms or 24-7 prayer, please call in and say hello to us during the festival, attend one of our seminars or check out our website www.24-7prayerireland.com

The Listening Space is a free Christian counselling service for any young person aged between 12 and 18 yrs of age.

We are a team of professionally qualified and experienced counsellors who work in accordance with the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and the Association of Christian Counsellors guidelines.

We work with any young person who would like to explore issues and experiences that they are finding difficult in their lives, for example anxiety, self-esteem, loss, faith, relationships, family breakdown and sexuality within a safe, supportive and caring environment. Counselling is confidential and what you say in counselling is not repeated to others without your permission unless there are very serious concerns about your safety or another person’s safety.

What we are offering at Summer Madness this year is individual listening support, the opportunity to spend some time individually with one of our counsellors to talk through any issues which may have arisen for you over the weekend. We will be available all day Saturday and Sunday and you can find us in the Prayer Room.

Our service is also for Youth Leaders. We will be available for support and advice. So please feel free to come and chat with us.

This year between CIYD Connect and the YakShak is the Woodland Area. Once you’ve bought your burgers or other treats, you need somewhere sheltered to eat and chill out, right? It’ll provide some shelter from the blistering sunshine or tumultuous rain, as well as hosting the Woodland Café.

Run by the Methodist, Church of Ireland and Presbyterian Chaplaincies at Queen’s University, The Woodland Cafe is a new venue for 2013. There’s a great selection of drinks, snacks, milkshakes and ice cream and plenty of folk around to ensure you’re well looked after. Somewhere to chill or take timeout from the busy festival.

TAKE AWAY ONE THING

JOHN 15:1-4

I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.

TAKE AWAY ONE THING

JOHN 15:5-9

I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever youwish, and it will be done for you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.

JOHN 15:9-13

As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. TAKE AWAY ONE THING

JOHN 15:14-17

You are my friends if you do what I command. I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit — fruit that will last — and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. This is my command: Love each other.

3RD JULY - 6TH JULY

StreetReach originally ran for five years from 2003. Instead of going home after the festival in July, hundreds camped for five more days, working on the streets of Belfast to serve local communities in practical, loving ways. After 2007 an amazing thing happened: people continued doing StreetReach without the help of Summer Madness. In fact, little pockets of StreetReach-type missions popped up all over the country. We estimate that over 2,500 people continue to do StreetReach right across Ireland.

One of those groups of people who started up a StreetReach-type mission are based in Derry~Londonderry. This will be the fourth year of what they call “On The Move”, and we’re partnering with them to

bring a taste of StreetReach back to where it all started.

On Tuesday immediately after the festival, a few hundred people are going on a mission adventure over the Glenshane pass.If you want to get involved, it might not be too late!

Following a week of prayer at Summer Madness and Street Reach another week of prayer will take place in Southern Ireland at New Wine. Groups of churches taking part in the year of prayer are committed to empowering and releasing young people to be a catalyst for unity, prayer and transformation across their area. For more information or to find out how you can book a week of prayer across your area go to http://www.thefatherlove.co.uk

Prayer Spaces in Schools is all about taking simple, creative, 24-7-style prayer room ideas, and putting them into school classrooms.

It’s about making prayer accessible to children and young people, whether they have a faith or not. Over the past few years, more than 500 of these prayer spaces have been set up in schools, providing an opportunity for tens of thousands of young people to ‘try praying’ for the first time.

So, how about your school? If you’re interested in getting a prayer space set up for a day or a week in your school speak to one of the team at the 24-7 venue.
