Project Guidelines:
The primary objective of the Summer Project work is to provide an opportunity
to the students to make an intensive study of practical aspects of management
to sharpen their conceptual, analytical and problem solving skills. The Summer
Project work commences on June 27, 2011 and goes up to August 06,
2011accounting for six weeks.
The objectives of the Summer Project work are to facilitate the students to:
apply management concepts to Organizational setting
apply scientific principles of Research Methodology
investigate & provide solutions to Organizational problems and
understand live Organizational situations
The participating Organization may assign the student to a senior level / middle
level executive, known as Organization Guide, to act as a facilitator and
mentor. The Organization Guide may
help the student identify a project that can be completed within the
duration
provide assistance in data collection
review periodically the progress of the student
offer necessary help in the preparation of draft report
evaluate the performance of the student
Guidelines for Students
Students are required to
Send the Joining Report to the Faculty Guide

Submit Progress Reports at the time of Reviews.
Obtain Project Completion & Attendance Certificate before leaving the
organization.
Maintain Project Diary with details, noting on activities and personal learning
during the project period. Get the counter-signature of the Organization
guide on a weekly basis and Faculty Guide at the time of Reviews.
Students are encouraged to actively pursue collection of additional information
that will enrich your understanding of management processes and practices.
Such information can be developed into cases and articles.
Students Code of Conduct
Students character, communication, commitment and competence reflect the
image of the Institution. An Organization evaluates an Institution by the
performance of students during the project period. The guidelines given below
shall be strictly adhered to for a fulfilling performance during the project period
in the organization.
1. Respect and follow the policies, rules, regulations, and culture of the
Organization.
2. Follow the instructions given by the Organization Guide and other
Executives of the Organization.
3. Involve yourself totally for the successful completion of the project and
for mutual benefit.
4. Make the Organization acknowledge your expertise and competence as
reflected in the execution of works assigned to you.
5. Dedicate yourself to be a model trainee as you are the ambassador of
KCT BS.
6. Establish rapport with all personnel in the Organization.
7. Work for the completion of the project with a work schedule and by
getting a brief about your project from the Organization Guide.
8. Involve in the project with a clear understanding of the dimensions of the
problem and with the ability to offer solutions to unforeseen problems.
9. Seek assistance from others when needed though it is advisable to work
independently.

PROJECT REPORT
1. Number of Copies to be submitted
Students should submit three physical copies and two soft copies of the
complete Project report on or before the specified date.
(i) One copy to the Library
(ii) One copy to the Faculty Guide
(iii) One copy to the student concerned.
(iv) One softcopy to the department (Abstract) and one to the guide.
2. Length of the Project Report
The length of the project report should not exceed 100 pages of typed matter
reckoned from the first page of Chapter 1 to the last page.
3. Arrangement of Contents of Project Report
The sequence in which the project report material should be arrangedand bound should be as follows:

6) List of Tables7) List of charts/figures8) Synopsis9) Chapters (I to V)10) Bibliography11) Appendices
The Tables and Figures shall be introduced in the appropriate places.
4. Page Dimensions and Margin

The dimensions of the final bound copies of the project report should be290mm x 205mm. Standard A4 size (297mm x 210mm) paper may beused for preparing the copies. The final copies of the project report (atthe time of submission) should have the following page margins: Topedge: 30 to 35 mm, Bottom edge:25 to 30 mm, Left side 35 to 40 mm,Right side:20 to 25 mm
The project report should be prepared on good quality white paperpreferably not lower than 80 gms /Sq. Meter. Tables and figures shouldconform to the margin specifications. Large size figures should bephotographically or otherwise reduced to the appropriate size beforeinsertion.
5. Manuscript Preparation
The candidates shall supply a typed copy of the manuscript to the guidefor the purpose of approval. In the preparation of the manuscript, care
should be taken to ensure that all textual matter is typed to the extentpossible in the same format as may be required for the final projectreport.
The headings of all items from 2 to 11 listed section 3 should be typed incapital letters without punctuation and centered 50mm below the top ofthe page. The text should commence 4 spaces below this heading. Thepage numbering for all items 1 to 8 should be done using lower caseRoman numerals and the pages thereafter should be numbered usingArabic numerals.
5.1 Title page A specimen copy of the title page for the projectreport is given in Appendix 1.
5.2 Bonafide Certificate Use double spacing for typing the BonafideCertificate in this format:
Certified that this project report titledis thebonafide work of Mr./ Ms..who carried out theproject under my supervision. Certified further, that to the best of myknowledge the work reported herein does not form part of any otherproject report or dissertation on the basis of which a degree or awardwas conferred on an earlier occasion on this or any other candidate.
(Certificate to be countersigned by the Director)5.3. Acknowledgement It should be brief and should not exceed
one page when typed double spacing.
5.4. Table of contents The table of contents should list all the itemsfollowing it, as well as, any material preceding it. The title page,Bonafide Certificate and acknowledgement will not find a placeamong the items listed in the table of contents but the page

numbers of which are in lower case Roman letters. 1.5 line spacingshould be adopted for typing the matter under this head.

Appendices should be numbered using Arabic numerals, e.g.Appendix 1, Appendix 2, etc.
Appendices, Tables and References appearing in appendicesshould be numbered and referred to at appropriate places in thechapters.

10 Tables and Figures
A table or figure including caption should be accommodatedwithin the prescribed margin limits must appear on the pagewhere its first reference is made.
Tables and figures on half page or less in length may appear onthe same page along with the text. However, they should beseparated from the text both above and below by triple spacing.
All tables and figures should be prepared on the same paper ormaterial used for the preparation of the rest of the project report.
For preparing captions, numerals, symbols or characters in thecase of tables or figures, the Computer should be used.
Two or more small tables or figures may be grouped if necessaryin a single page.
Whenever possible, the entire photograph(s) may be reproducedon a full sheet of photographic paper.
Photographs, if any, should be included in the colour photocopyform only. More than one photograph can be included in a page.
Typing Instructions

The impressions on the typed copies should be black in colour
Text Font is Times New Roman, Size -12
A sub-heading at the bottom of a page must have atleast twofull lines below it or else it should be carried over to the nextpage.
The last word of any page should not be split using a hyphen.
1.5 line spacing should be used for typing the general text.
Single spacing should be used for typing:i. Long Tablesii. Long quotationsiii. Foot notesiv. Multiline captionsv. References
All quotations exceeding one line should be typed in an indentedspace the indentation being 15mm from either margin.
Double spacing should be used for typing the Bonafide
Certificate and Acknowledgement.
6.2 Chapters (Also see Appendix 2)
The format for typing chapter headings, division headings and subdivision headings are explained through the following illustrativeexamples.
Chapter heading : CHAPTER 1Division heading : Introduction
Division heading : 1.1 Outline of project report
Sub-division heading : 1.1.2. Literature review.
The word CHAPTER without punctuation should be centered 50mmdown from the top of the page. Two spaces below, the title of thechapter should be typed centrally in capital letters. The text shouldcommence 4 spaces below this title, the first letter of the textstarting 20mm, inside from the left hand margin.
The division and sub-division captions along with their numberingsshould be left-justified. The typed material directly below division orsub-division heading should commence 2 spaces below it and
should be offset 20mm from the left hand margin. Within a divisionor sub-division, paragraphs are permitted. Even paragraph shouldcommence 3 spaces below the last line of the preceding paragraph,the first letter in the paragraph being offset from the left handmargin by 20mm.
7. Numbering Instructions
7.1. Page Numbering
All page numbers (whether it is in Roman or Arabic numbers)should be typed without punctuation on the upper right hand

corner 20mm from top with the last digit in line with the right handmargin. The preliminary pages of the project report (such as Titlepage, Acknowledgement, Table of Contents etc.) should benumbered in lower case Roman numerals. The title page will benumbered as (i) but this should not be typed. The pageimmediately following the title page shall be numbered (ii) and it
should appear at the top right hand corner as already specified.Pages of main text, starting with Chapter 1 should be consecutivelynumbered using Arabic numerals.
7.2 Numbering of Chapters, Divisions and Sub-Divisions
The numbering of chapters, divisions and sub-divisions should bedone, using Arabic numerals only and further decimal notation
should be used for numbering the divisions and sub-divisions withina chapter. For example, sub-division 4 under division 3 belonging tochapter 2 should be numbered as 2.3.4. The caption for the sub-division should immediately follow the number assigned to it.
Every chapter beginning with the first chapter should be seriallynumbered using Arabic numerals. Appendices included should alsobe numbered in an identical manner starting with Appendix 1.
7.2 Numbering of Tables and Figures
Tables and Figures appearing in the project report should bearappropriate numbers. The rule for assigning such numbers isillustrated through an example. Thus if as figure in Chapter 3,happens to be the fourth then assign 3.4 to that figure. Identicalrules apply for tables except that the word Figures is replaced bythe word Table. If figures (or tables) appear in appendices thenfigure 3 in Appendix 2 will be designated as Figure A 2.3. If a tableto be continued into the next page this may be done, but no lineshould be drawn underneath an unfinished table. The top line ofthe table continued into the next page should, for example readTable 2.1 (continued) placed centrally and underlined.
8. Binding Specifications
Project report submitted should be bound using flexible cover ofthick white art paper. The spine for the bound volume should be ofblack Calico of 20mm width. The cover should be printed in blackletters and the text for printing should be identical to what hasbeen prescribed for the title page.
