Scope of the Research Work

The scope of the project is to understand the credit appraisal

process in banks.



Objectives of the Project

The Main Objective Of this Project is to Evaluate the

performance of M/s Blackrock Luminaries for Credit Appraisal.

The basic objective behind joining UBIs Credit department was

to learn about how retail loans are sanctioned.

The way balance sheet and other financial techniques are

used in deciding whether or not to approve the loan.



Methodology

Data: Secondary

Analysis of past and present financial statements

Analysis of Balance Sheet

Examination of Profitability statements

Examination of projected financial statements

To assess the suitability of the company for

disbursement of credit.



Limitations Many information provided were confidential in nature so not

included in project report for reference.

Lack of data was also limitation of the study.

The time given for the summer internship i.e. 8 weeks, was

not sufficient enough to study and understand the retail loansapproval process of the Union bank of India.

The banks have their own confidential information and it was

very difficult to make the project and analyze it on the basis of

hypothetical information.



Analysis

Purpose: PROPOSAL FOR SANCTION OF LOAN

Use of credit rating charts

Evaluation of management risk Evaluation of financial risk

Evaluation of market-industry risk

Calculation of credit rating.



Findings

That the banks have their own credit rating system and that

they try to update it with the latest method available.

The ratios have a very important role to play; a thorough

understanding of them leads one to the future prospects of

the borrower and also tells a lot about its financial soundness.

Another important thing is the balance sheet, its break up and

the study of it, tells a lot about any organization.

Retail loan sector in India has a long way to go, a steady

growth is projected in the coming years.



Conclusion

Proper credit appraisal involving performance of client,

sureties and industrial visits helps bank to reduce its NPAs and

hence to reduce its credit risks.

If an individual / Business concern or any other applicant need

loan from Bank, they have to be member of the bank.

Bank use its own credit rating system, CIBIL report as well as

confidential report from other banks as per the needs to judge

the credit worthiness of clients.



Recommendations

The processing of credit appraisal can be expedited by using

suitable software that can help the Bank in calculation of

Ratios, credit rating and pricing

Use of special software should be made for Speedy

preparation, evaluation and approval of settlement proposals.

Availability of reliable information and systems to monitor and

control the recovery process. .

Many times they pass a loan without the proper appraisal, i.e.

the client may lack either the projected and estimated balancesheet or the proper documents. In such cases there should be

a strict protocol followed.
