If you like Twilight........

Grace is fascinated by the wolves in the woods behind her house; one yellow-eyed wolf in particu-lar. Sam leads two lives. In winter, he stays in the frozen woods. In summer, he has a few precious months to be human .until the cold makes him shift back again. When Grace and Sam finally meet, they realize they can't bear to be apart.

Since a horrible accident claimed the lives of her family, sixteen-year-old Ever can see auras, hear people's thoughts, and know a person's life story by touch. Going out of her way to shield herself from human contact to suppress her abilities has branded her as a freak at her new high school - but everything changes when she meets Damen Auguste.

There were no surprises in Gatlin County. We were pretty much the epicenter of the middle of nowhere. At least, that's what I thought.Turns out, I couldn't have been more wrong. There was a curse. There was a girl. And in the end, there was a grave.

The phenomenon that's been sweeping the country seems to be here to stay. Not only are the teenag-ers who have come back from their graves still here, but newlydeads are being unearthed all the time. While scientists look for answers and politi-cians take their stands, the undead population of Oakville have banded together in a group they're calling the Sons of Romero, hoping to find solidari-ty in segregation.

When Phoebe's best friend Adam takes a bullet for her, it proves everyone right - Adam is in love with her. And now that he's come back to life, Phoebe's presence may be more important than ever. They say that a zombie can come back from death faster if they're loved...and kissed - which means Phoebe has to say goodbye to Tommy Williams, the other zombie in her life.

About three things I was absolutely positive. First, Edward was a vampire. Second, there was a part of him----and I didn't know how dominant that part might be----that thirsted for my blood. And third, I was unconditionally and ir-revocably in love with him.

The book that started a publishing dynasty. A great saga which now stretches through 5 books and so far has spawned 3 films, the latest being Eclipse.

They are recruited by an agency that no one knows exists, with only one purpose - to fix broken his-tory. The prat.‘Blimey – sixty-six per cent of one family in hospital at the same time!’ says Jack. ‘You’d better watch yourself, Lukey. It could be an ancient Indian curse . . . Why don’t you sleep at mine tonight?’‘Yeah, go on,’ I say. ‘Don’t fancy another night home alone.’To tell the truth, I’ve eaten the last pizza anyway

Fantastic Fiction

Books not to Miss

This is a great series of books.

Imagine Big Brother where instead of the public voting the contestants out, the contestants have to kill each other to win the contest. Imag-ine everyone in the world watched this live. There you have the Hun-ger Games.

So far the first two books have been published with the third, highly anticipated book out at the end of August.

Follow Georgia's hilarious antics as she tries to overcome the dilemma’s that are weighing up against her, and muddle her way through teenage life and all that it entails: how to replace accidentally shaved-off eye-brows; how to cope with Angus, her small labrador-sized Scottish wild-cat; her first kiss with Peter – afterwards known as Whelk Boy; annoying teachers; unsympathetic friends and family, and how to entice Robbie the Sex God!

Phew – she’s really got her work cut out!

MANGA

If you’ve not delved into the fantastic world of Manga fiction then, you’re in for a treat. Manga are Japanese style graphic novels with a twist. Most of them you read from back to front and from right to left in the eastern style, but don’t worry because the writing is in English!

A lot of Manga is translations from Japanese, but there is a growing British presence. For instance Cirque du Freak is available in Manga form and we have Manga versions of Romeo & Juliet and others.

The Saga of Darren Shan

Darren Shan is a world famous author from Ireland. He started out writing adult horror books but when that didn’t work out he moved to writing for teenagers.

His first novel was Cirque du Freak, the start of the epic Saga of Darren Shan. The first three books in the series have been recently turned into the blockbuster film ‘The Vampire’s Assistant’.

In the past couple of years a series of Manga adventures about the Saga of Darren Shan have been published (and are available in the library along with 2 french editions!)

The second series was a more bloodthirsty horror entitled the Demonata series. There are 10 books in this series with you being able to read the first 4 in any order (unusual for a series).

The Demonata

Darren Shan's an ordinary schoolboy, until he and his best friend Steve get tickets to the Cirque Du Freak, a bizarre freak show featuring such arcane performers as Hans Hands, Gertha Teeth, the Wolf Man and Rhamus Twobellies. In the midst of the ghoulish excitement, true terror raises its head when Steve recognises that one of the performers -- Mr Crepsley -- is in fact a vampire! (darrenshan.com)

"The Demonata" is a ten-book series which will take readers into new realms and universes, all of them populated or threatened by demons. Fast-paced and bloody, horrific and fantastic, frightening and exciting. You might never look at the world in the same way again ... (darrenshan.com)

Darren Shan’s latest series starts with the Thin Executioner. It’s a slight departure for Darren as it’s more of a fantasy adventure, but has still got those recognisable Shan moments.

Jebel Rum is a thin, scrawny boy. His father is the famed executioner in the city where they live. When Jebel is humiliated in public, he sets off on a quest to gain great strength and invincibility. If successful, he will be able to compete in a gruelling contest to prove himself and replace his father as the wielder of the axe. Failure, on the other hands, means certain death. (darrenshan.com)

Facing the atrocities of World War One head on, Bissen Singh fights for the British Empire and is almost killed. He ends up in hospital in England where he meets a beautiful young nurse. But this can be no ordinary wartime romance between a soldier and a nurse. She is a white girl and he is an Indian Sikh. When, against all the odds, they fall in love Bissen must make a choice between his country and his love ...Years later, Bissen is back in Amritsar, his home town, waiting desperately for news of his love. But Amritsar is now a city on the brink of revolution. A gang of teenage Indian boys are part of the increasingly violent rebellion against the British that Bissen once fought alongside. Every day things get more and more dangerous, and more and more innocent people are dragged into the fight for the city ...This is an epic, powerful story, of love and life, war and death by award-winning author Bali Rai. Will the ghosts of the past help Amritsar to a peaceful future...?

It happens in one night: a girl who died now walks among the living, Zil and the Human Crew set fire to Perdido Beach, and amid the flames and smoke, Sam sees the figure of the boy he fears the most - Drake. But Sam and Caine defeated him along with the Darkness - or so they thought.

As Perdido Beach burns, battles rage: Astrid against the Town Coun-cil; the Human Crew versus the mutants; and Sam against Drake. And the prophetess Orsay and her companion, Nerezza, are preaching that death will set them all free. As life in the FAYZ becomes more desperate, no one knows who they can trust.

It's summer. Rebecca is an unwilling visitor to Winterfold - taken from the buzz of London and her friends and what she thinks is the start of a promising romance. Fere-lith already lives in Winterfold - it's a place that doesn't like to let you go, and she knows it inside out - the beach, the crumbling cliff paths, the village streets, the woods, the deserted churches and ruined graveyards, year by year being swallowed by the sea. Against her better judgement, Rebecca and Ferelith become friends, and during that long, hot, claustrophobic summer they discover more about each other and about Winterfold than either of them really want to, uncovering frightening se-crets that would be best left long forgotten. Interwoven with Rebecca and Ferelith's stories is that of the seventeenth century Rector and Dr Barrieux, master of Winter-fold Hall, whose bizarre and bloody experiments into the after-life might make angels weep, and the devil crow.
