I would like to share with you my response when a board member asked
what use was our HOA…
“Thank you for your candor yesterday… It got me to thinking… Corey’s
question about what the HOA does for him is complicated…
First off I would have to say well maintained amenities… Ken takes
pride and so do I in the condition of the Well Field/Park… except for win-
ter months we strive to keep the area clean, grass cut, beach maintained,
bathrooms working with an area for our little members to play and gath-
er safely… Corey said at one time he used the area … now, not so
much… but it’s still there for his use if he desired. I’d like to add it’s a
peaceful place away from barking dogs.
Second: what do we have down in the Well Field/Park area? Boat launch,
two docks to fish from, a stocked lake, swimming & picnic areas, with a
fire-pit, pole-barn, tennis court, basketball, tether ball and play area…
all amenities which would be hard to afford without a strong HOA… I
know the baseball diamond needs some help, but it could be an area of
growth? On any given day there are at least three different walkers in
the area… and lets not forget the barbecue pits… we have added street
lights to help with over night security…
Lets step away from the park and look at the neighborhoods … Aestheti-
cally pleasing homes… when was the last time you drove thru our com-
munities? How is our “community standards” policy holding up? For the
most part… great… Yes, there are a few areas which need improvement,
but I’ll say this… our community could be worse… At our first Trash
Daze event we took out ninety-nine tires and over twenty appliances…
all “stored” on someone’s property… Consider how many manufactured
homes have been replaced with “on site, stick built” houses? Let’s admit
it, Scenic Shores is evolving.
Ok, now we get to the sticks and stones… Rules and Regulations… with
out them what would we have? Anarchy! How long did it take Thurston
County to get out here for that roll-over on Scenic Shores Dr. (two hours)
… Let’s face it we’re not number one on their to do list… but the HOA
helps (I know … not completely)… deter nuisance activity and promotes
conformity… as they say “Beauty is not just in the eye of the beholder”…

Presidents Corner continued:
HOA regulations are another layer of protection against neighborhood degradation, and an effective
means to maintain community standards and protect property values. A properly run HOA adds sup-
port in dealing with neighborhood property issues - HOAs often partner with municipal code compli-
ance departments to ensure adherence… such as in parking on the road, cutting down trees which be-
long to the county, burning trash in a burn barrel…
Here’s an FYI… all subdivisions in Washington State are required to have CC&R’s! Yep rules without
an enforcement mechanism! Without an HOA, who will stop your neighbor from putting up a ten-foot
wall and burning his daily trash? Might I add, it was the membership in conjunction with the HOA
that got fireworks banned several years ago.
HOA’s are a great way to meet your neighbors, make new friends… also the HOA promotes a higher
lever of civic involvement… such as meetings, clean-ups, Trash Daze… Easter Egg hunt…
What about community pride? Aren’t you glad you live here and not someplace where anything goes?
Our community is nice, quiet, and mostly crime free… “Pride in Ownership”… that’s what our HOA
brings to the table…”
FIREWORKS
Fireworks are not allowed in the Scenic Shores Development.
You can light up fireworks along the beach in the
Scenic Shores Park on the 4th of July.
Architectural Business
It's Summer, time for swimming and lounging in the shade. Please remember before you plan a big day at the park make sure your key is working. Hate for anyone to be locked out on a beautiful sunny day. As yards go, we have a couple of hick-ups, but in general most are looking great! Thank you. Please remember to send in an Architectural Change Request Form before you make any changes to your property. You find the form on our website. Park rules: No dogs. No ATV's. No parking near the well heads. Have fun, stay hydrated, and do unto others. We do more than just share the air, we share the park, so please leave it better then you found it. We hope you had the chance to watch the boat races last April. They were awesome as usual. Trash Daze was another big success this year. We had 59 community members participate. Everyone enjoyed the hot dogs and great conversations with neighbors. If you would like to see yourself or a neighbor get the Yard of Month drop off a note at the water tower with name and address. A picture of the yard will appear on the home page of the Scenic Shores Website. We are always looking for volunteers to join the Architectural Committee and help keep Scenic Shores looking good. Give us a call (360) 742-9348 if you are interested in volunteering. Also, if you have any suggestions or questions regarding the Bylaws or Priority List we would love to hear from you! Thank you, Scenic Shores, for another glorious season!

Water Works
Well, summer’s here and it’s time to have some fun, in and out of the water.
First off, we’d like to inform our customers, Scenic Shores recently had a five year inspection by the Washington Dept. of Health Office of Drinking Water. Our system was inspected from top to bottom, and the inspectors were very impressed. They found a cou-ple of minor issues, (already corrected). So, once again, we’re happy to say: your water company is in safe hands and we're proud to be delivering the best water around.
With the warm weather summer brings. Many of you will be filling those backyard pools. Here’s a couple of tips… if and when you fill your pool— Save some $ on your water bill by only filling with a couple inches of water initially, and let it sit a couple of days. Now check for leaks. We had a family completely fill their large pool and in the morning they were shocked to find it empty! Another money saving tip — straddle the 19th (meter read day) when filling. Meaning, you fill half on the 18th, and then wait until late in the day on the 19th to top off the pool… this will spread the water usage into two billing cycles.
Also, when you fill your pool, do not drape the hose over the top edge and let it sit. This could lead to a backflow incident if the wa-ter system was to experience a serious pressure loss. Additionally, we had had a couple of members turn the water on in the evening and let it run overnight, and you got it, in the morning a really wet yard… overflow everywhere!
Do you have a water saving tip, here are a couple we want to pass along...
Gotta wash your car or truck? Try doing it on your lawn… The water works twice as hard.
Don’t over water your yard, it only needs an inch of water a week… a tuna can is a great measuring device…
Don’t water your pavement or sidewalks…
In July we will be testing for lead and copper.. Some of you will be asked to perform this important test… later the results will be posted on the website.
Finally, we’d like to once again thank you for keeping an eye on the system. Recently a customer gave us a call about a ‘soft’ spot she noticed while weed-whacking. You guessed it, water leak. We were able to get it fixed before the problem got out of control.
Thank you,
