Improve Your Home’s Curb Appeal on a Budget!
If you’re trying to sell your home, you know the importance of curb appeal. But, did you know that you can improve your curb appeal without spending a lot of money? Here are six tips to help you add pizzazz to your home without putting a strain on your budget: Paint your front door. What does your front door look like right now? Does it look tired? Are there markings on it? One of the easiest ways to add a little pop to your front entrance is to repaint your front door. Maybe add a little burst of color like red, turquoise or blue. Update your lights. If you’ve lived in your home for a while, you might not even realize how outdated your exterior lighting may be. By upgrading your light fixtures, you’ll immediately brighten your home’s curb appeal. If you don’t want to purchase new light fixtures, you can simply paint them. Get your yard in order. One of the most important things you can do to improve the curb appeal of your home is to clean up your yard. Take the time to manicure your lawn and make it as green as possible. You can even spray your yard green using lawn paint. Trim the trees and bushes. Plant new flowers, or a tree, in your yard. You may want to consider installing flower boxes by your windows or in your front porch area. Power wash your house. We don’t realize how dirty our homes get over time. A good power wash will take away the grime and allow your home’s true color to shine through. You can either rent a power washer or hire someone to help you. Make sure to power wash your windows and screens so they’ll be bright and clean as well. Fix your driveway. When driving up to your home, one of the first things a buyer sees is your driveway. How does yours look? Are there cracks in the concrete? If so, do what you can to repair the cracks on your own or hire someone to professionally seal it. You may even consider staining your driveway to give it a little extra pop. Upgrade your mailbox. If you have a mailbox in the front of your home, make sure it looks nice. This is something we may not think a lot about, but if a buyer is looking at your home and your mailbox is tilted, or is rusty and old, it may give a negative impression of your home. You should consider painting your mailbox, or purchasing a new, Inexpensive one to install.

Going on vacation is a great way to relax from the daily grind. But, sometimes in our quest for a fun vacation we overspend. This can lead to more stress upon return. One way to avoid unexpected vacation costs is using pre-paid gift cards on your trip. First, take a look at your vacation. Are you traveling within the United States or abroad? Is part of your vacation already paid for (flights, hotels, tours, etc.)? Are you traveling to areas where you can use prepaid cards? Once you have answers to these questions, consider the following: If you want to cover day-to-day expenses, such as food, use restaurant cards or gift cards. Using Google Maps, you can find restaurants nearby and plan accordingly. Or, take along some prepaid gift cards and use when needed. Just make sure you have enough balance on the cards and they haven’t expired. You may also need to check out their spending limits, or whether there are limitations to redeem them. If you’re traveling abroad, be sure to check whether you can use your intended card and what fees are charged. In most cases, a prepaid gift card (e.g., Visa, MasterCard or American Express) will be accepted abroad, but it’s always good to double check. Additionally, take a look at the fees charged to use these cards – it may not be worth it. If you want to put your family on a budget during vacation, give them gift cards to spend. Everyone wants to buy a souvenir from someplace they’ve visited. Budget for it by giving each family member a gift card to use. It allows them to figure out what they want to buy, and they won’t constantly ask for more. For example, if you’re planning a trip to Disney World, you could give each of your children a $25 Disney gift card to buy a souvenir. Using prepaid cards for your vacation is a great way to ensure you only spend the amount you budgeted. You’ll return home rested, free of stress, and ready for the daily grind again. To learn more about the prepaid gift cards available at Minnesota Valley Federal Credit Union, visit our website www.mnvalleyfcu.coop, or give us a call at 507-387-3055.
