Dear Residents,
I am pleased to present our Spring & Summer
Activity Guide for 2014.
I believe you will discover a number of programs and events that are well suited to the recreational interests of your family. The JCPRC’s mission is to provide safe public parks and diverse year round recreational opportunities to promote and improve the overall quality of life for the citizens of Jefferson
County. Our staff is committed to this mission and works diligently to meet
the recreational needs of our community.
We have three major capital improvement projects that will be undertaken this spring and summer. The renovations to Sam Michael’s “old home site” are being completed this spring and will be available for weddings and other special events this summer at Sam Michael’s Park. In addition, construction will begin on a new picnic pavilion that will honor our Veteran’s. The Veter-an’s Memorial Pavilion, which will be located beside the playground at the Jefferson County Community Center, should be open in July. The third
project is the development of Phase I at James Hite Park.
We hope you can take time to visit a park and take a walk, have a picnic or
play with your little one. The parks are here for you to enjoy.
We are proud to serve the citizens of Jefferson County!
If you ever have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate
to contact me.

100 Miles in 100 Days To encourage good health, physical fitness and outdoor fun, the Jefferson County Parks & Recreation Commission challenges residents to walk 100 miles in 100 days this summer. By walking just one mile per day between Memorial Day and Labor Day, you can earn a certificate to honor your achievement and get a 30-Day Punch Pass to use the JCCC. This program is designed to promote health and well being among residents and reward you for incorporating healthy exercise habits into your daily lives. Research proves that individuals who use a tracking system to assist with their health and wellness goals are more successful at achieving these goals. Want 2 Compete Soccer Academy
A soccer school of fun and learning, players will receive proper age appropriate skills training from licensed and experienced professional coaches who follow a strict curriculum. The focus is on the fun each player will experience as they develop, are able to perform, and discover what they can do with their new skills. At every training session, players will play small-sided games or scrimmages to provide them as much opportunity to experiment and apply newly learned techniques, without the fear of making mistakes, allowing them to truly enjoy playing the way soccer is meant to be played. The format for small-sided games and scrimmages is similar to that of pick-up soccer, not league play, where the scoreboard truly does not matter and it is all about having fun and being
creative. Each player will receive an Academy shirt.
