Don’t Miss This Bevy of National Speakers...Mark Rosenberg, DO, MBA, FACEP, FACOEP-D, is chairman of the Department of Emergency Medicine, chief of Geriatrics Emergency Medicine, and chief of Palliative Medicine at St. Joseph’s Healthcare System in Paterson, NJ. Palliative care is the medical specialty focused on relief of the pain, symptoms and stress of serious illness. The goal is to reduce suffering and improve quality

of life for patients and their families. Palliative care is appropriate at any point in a serious illness and can be provided at the same time as curative treatment. Dr. Rosenberg will discuss patients and families unique situations that need to be addressed on a case-by-case basis. Emergency physicians alone are not equipped to provide this individualized attention in their fast-paced, stressful environment. Adding a palliative care component to emergency medicine can help provide better outcomes for the patient and greater efficiency for the health care facility.

Robert J. Vissers, MD is the Medical Director of Emergency Services and Chair of Quality at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland, Oregon. He also serves as an Adjunct Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Oregon Health Sciences University.
