I. CALL TO ORDER

Chairman: David Bakshy called the meeting to order at 2:04 PM Members Present: Joyce Johnson, Char Oman, Don Hauser, Sue Henricken Board of Director’s Liaison Present: John Council Staff Liaison Members Present: SHGC Director of Golf: Tony Chavez SHGC Director of Agronomy: Leonard Colvin SCSH Information Committee Member: Jerry Irwin Western Golf Properties Representative:

II. APPROVAL of October Minutes: October’s Minutes were approved as submitted

III. DIRECTOR OF AGRONOMY’S REPORT: (See attached report.)

The bent grass seed on the greens will provide enhanced color throughout the season.

Bunker renovation: The bunkers on 16 have been changed to the new sand, 75% Augusta White and 25% Desert Tan. It took approximately 75 tons of sand. Dave questioned how to proceed with the rest of the bunkers. Should we work on bunkers around greens, or go hole by hole? John suggested we survey the course and come up with a plan. Leonard has already begun studying various bunkers, but with work on getting an estimate, for the 1st nine, for our next meeting. Cory questioned the “life expectancy” for the new sand, and Leonard explained that it depends on a number of factors including weather and play. Also, Tony cautioned that a program for replacement of all bunkers would include budgeting for the hiring outside contractors, and not the use of in-house employees.

Peter questions the reasons for the major cement repair work that has been needed for the North Course. Part of the problem is settling and drainage.

Don wondered how soon the greens will be “ready for putting”, and Leonard responded that it may take a few weeks to get them where he want them.

Char mentioned the bare spots by the knee walls. Irrigation has been checked and seed has been replaced. Additionally, Leonard is cultivating areas around the course to be used as sod in areas, such as this, where needed.

David asked about the status of the reflective stakes for GPS distance to water hazards on 18 and 12, and Tony shared samples of what has been purchased.

Discussion was held regarding flood preparedness. Tony explained the greatest problem is securing the pumping equipment when it is in demand and needed throughout the valley. John shared the project CVWD is completing at Jefferson and 40th.

IV. GENERAL MANAGER’S REPORT: (see attached report)

Don asked why twilight play begins at 12:30, and Tony responded that after that time, players cannot finish their round.

David suggested “no parking” signage for the new widened cart area. Tony already has the stencils.

Mondays will be double shot guns

The 1st Divot Party will be in February, the 2nd in March

Tony requested that we remind all golfers to repair divots. (!) V. OLD BUSINESS:

Info to Board re: putting green, water conservation – Per a request from the Board, David requested answers to the following questions: How many acres are we not over seeding? How much water is being conserved? How many dollars are we saving?

Montecito Putting Green Proposal: Tony and Ozzie walked the putting greens with a rep from a solar company, who is getting a plan and pricing to us. We will probably need panels, placed on posts to be installed around the course strategically.

Bunker sand replacement: Discussed under Agronomist’s Report VI. NEW BUSINESS:

New Tee Time Booking Link: Tony demonstrated the new link for us, which will allow tee time booking 14 days in advance for 1 foursome / member / day. Tony is sending all committee members the link to forward to our clubs. Additionally, he asked us to encourage our members to show up for reserved Tee Times, or be sure to cancel them.

Trail Fee Option: It was moved (Pete) and 2nd (Sue) that we create a reduced fee (Pay as you play) for players who do not play enough rounds of golf to warrant purchase of a full pass. After discussion, the motion was unanimously defeated.

Switching nines: David is requesting we bring the opinions of our respective golf clubs. Peter is working on obtaining pricing for replacement, or modification of the monuments. Score cards would need to be reprinted, but new cards will be ordered this Spring, in any case.

GAC Projects for the Town Hall Meeting Report: Shadow Hills contribution to water conservation by selective over seeding, the putting green expansion, Leonard’s work with ponds at entrance to reflect Audubon Society’s standards, Montecito Putting Green improvements.

Other new business: David has received complaints regarding noise and lights due to early morning work on the golf courses. He will respond to the neighbor requesting more information.

VIII. ADJOURNMENT: The meeting was adjourned at 4:25. The next meeting will be held Tuesday, December 1st in the Capistrano Room at the Montecito Clubhouse.

Respectfully submitted,
