The Oracle Big Data Appliance X4-2 (Starter Rack) is a scalable version of the Oracle Big Data Appliance X4-2 (Full Rack). The Oracle Big Data Appliance X4-2 (Starter Rack) is a single, standalone, rack solution that contains (6) Compute/Storage Nodes, (3) InfiniBand Switches, (1) Ethernet Management Switch, redundant Power Distribution Units all housed within a customized Sun Rack 1242 enclosure. The Compute/Storage Nodes are based on the Sun Server X4-2L (12-drive) Servers. The Oracle Big Data Appliance X4-2 (Starter Rack) is an engineered system optimized for acquiring, organizing, and loading unstructured data. Big Data is not a precise term, rather, it is a characterization of the never-ending accumulation of all kinds of data, most of it unstructured. It describes data sets that are growing exponentially and that are too large, too raw, or too unstructured for analysis using relational database techniques. Whether measured in terabytes or petabytes, the precise amount of "Big Data" is less the issue than where the data ends up and how it is used. When data exceeds that which can be handled by the Oracle Big Data Appliance X4-2 (Starter Rack), customers may choose to upgrade using the Oracle Big Data Appliance X4-2 (In-Rack Expansion).
