    1.1 Sun Analysis

1.1.1 Sun Path in Bandar Sunway 46150, Petaling Jaya

The sunpath for the Petaling Jaya is approximately at a latitude of 3.1 and a longtitude of101.7 . This housing estate receives consistent exposure to sunshine yearly as Malaysia is

located on the euator. !andar "un#ay $%1&0 has the sun at at approximately '% to the north

during the #inter solstice and '% to the south during the #inter solstice.

near+y highrise +uildings in range around that can

o+struct our chosen housing from direct sunshine

    or radiation throughout the day.

,n (igure 1.1.'- the housing estate is ho#ever

sho#n to +e filled #ith similar terrace houses of

the same dimensions that provide shade at

    particular times of the day.

The image also highlights that there is insufficient

The position of sun on 1&th of "eptem+er '013 at 6am in the morning is approximately 10$

    8 a4imuth and $3 altitude.

(igure 1.1.'.' ,llustration of the cross section and plan sho#ing the solar rays at 6am on the 1&th of "eptem+er '013

There is little to no penetration of the solar rays into the room unit at 6am as sho#n in (igure

1.1.'.1. The solar rays are instead seen +ouncing off the roof overlooing the porch from the

east to the #est. This is most liely due to the uniue positioning of the house and the lac of

openings on the east side as it is a terrace house.

*s the day approaches closer to sunset- at around %pm the solar rays can +e seen +etter

illuminating the room unit in #arm light. This is helped #ith the t#o #indo#s and the slight

later in the day- in can +e inferred that from the positioning of the house #hich is at the corner

end of the ro# of terrace houses #ith less o+struction of the terrace units on the #est- it is

more exposed to the solar rays from that direction instead of the east as sho#n in (igure
