READINGS for —SUNDAY 16th October 2016 - 9am & 11am

The Lesson—Isaiah 61: 1-3

The Old Testament reading is from the book of Isaiah, chapter 61, beginning to read at verse 1. The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the broken-hearted,

to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, 2 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, 3 and provide for those who grieve in Zion – to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy

instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair.

They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendour.

This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God

The Epistle—1Timothy 2: 1-7

The New Testament reading is from St Pauls first letter to Timothy, Chapter 2, beginning to read at verse 1.

I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people – 2 for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness. 3 This is good, and pleases God our Saviour, 4 who wants all people to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

Page 3: Sunday 16th October - Rossorry Parish Churchrossorryparish.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Weekly-Newsheet-16.10.16.pdf · 2 Thessalonians 2: 1-5, 13-17 Luke 20: 27-38 Sunday 13th

5 For there is one God and one mediator between God and mankind, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself as a ransom for all people. This has now been witnessed to at the proper time. 7 And for this purpose I was appointed a herald and an apos-tle – I am telling the truth, I am not lying – and a true and faithful teacher of the Gentiles.

This is the word of the Lord. Thanks be to God

Please wait for Acclamation -(Sung)

The Gospel–Matthew 6: 25-33

Hear the Gospel of our Saviour Christ, according to Saint Matthew, chapter 6, beginning to read at verse 25. Glory to you Lord Jesus Christ.

25 ‘Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? 28 ‘And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labour or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendour was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you – you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, “What shall we eat?” or “What shall we drink?” or “What shall we wear?” 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom

and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

This is the Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. Please wait for Acclamation -(Sung)
