As we approach Lent this Wednesday, this Gospel calls us to love our neighbour. Let us not fret, worry or be preoccupied with ourselves this Lent; let us hold up in our prayers the other, fast so that the other may have more of the world’s resources and give to the other in order to give a hand up to those most deeply affected by the inequies in our world. Sunday 26th Eight Sunday

February in Ordinary Time

2017 (Year A)

‘Do not worry’, ‘Do not fret about’, ‘Do not be preoccupied with’

If only, if only we think.

Jesus tell us today that we have to turn this around a little and that we are not to be worried about our life but to be worried about others; others without adequate food or clothing.

In fact in this Gospel it is made clear - “Set your hearts on his kingdom first” – the reign of God, the Good News that Jesus brought to the world - our eternal destiny depends on our provision of the necessities of life for others...

Pope Francis often addresses the issue of consumerism. Just last year he said:

“Today, consumerism determines what is important”. Consuming, consuming whatever the cost or consequences. The result is a culture which discards everything that is no longer ‘useful’ or ‘satisfying’ while so many others only ‘eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table’.

As we approach Lent this Wednesday, this Gospel calls us to love our neighbour. Let us not fret, worry or be preoccupied with ourselves this Lent; let us hold up in our prayers the other, fast so that the other may have more of the world’s resources and give to the other in order to give a hand up to those most deeply affected by the inequities in our world.

Reflection on THE BEATITUDES

The fourth step: HUNGER AND

THIRST FOR JUSTICE! This step along

the road to spiritual maturity will actually

come quite naturally. If you have

followed the first 3 steps then by this stage

in your journey [being merciful, gentle

and if you have learned how to lose] you

will be hungry and thirsty for justice

because you have yourself learned how to

lose, how to die, how to let go of control.

So now you will be far more sensitive to

others who suffer injustice! You will have

learned too how to hunger and thirst for

the things of God and feel the indignation

of God when God’s little ones are treated

unjustly! You will be satisfied!

ALPHA TRAINING DAY MARCH 11

at St Joseph’s Hall, Corinda Saturday 11 March, 9am-3pm

Alpha is a series of sessions exploring the Christian faith. Each talk looks at a different question around faith and is designed to create conversation.

Alpha is run all around the globe, typically over eleven weeks. Everyone's welcome. No two Alphas look the same! The talks explore the big issues around faith and unpack the basics of Christianity, addressing questions from Who is Jesus? and How can we have faith? to Why and how do I pray? and How does God guide us? Please mark this training day run by Evangelisation Brisbane in your diary.
