SAVED BY THE ONE WHO WAS REJECTED

Some city teenagers often scorn and reject farm kids. Yet it’s no exaggeration to say that humanity owes its life to farmers who care for the world’s crops and livestock. This week’s scriptures remind us that Jesus was as rejected as a shepherd, a farm boy, yet we owe our very lives to him. In this Sunday’s reading from the Acts of the Apostles Peter tells the people that salvation comes through Jesus Christ, the one who was rejected. In John’s letter we hear that we have become God’s be-loved children through Jesus, whom the world did not know. Lastly, in the Gospel Jesus describes himself as the Good Shepherd who “lays down his life for the sheep” (John 10:11). Will you join Jesus in laying down your life for God’s beloved flock?

THANK YOU---- THANK YOU!

I would like to thank Father Jim for allowing me to speak at all the masses on March 18 about the good work of my Order, the Holy Trinity Fathers and to ask for your support for our dream of building the Mercy Home in India. The outpouring of love from my St James family was overwhelming and be-cause of you we were able to send $2,712 to help make this dream a reality! Once this building is complete, we will place a plaque acknowledging the support of St James the Apostle, Las Vegas, USA.

May God Bless St. James the Apostle Church and be as-sured of our prayers!

Fr. Lijo Abraham

Why Register In the Church Many people attend Mass here at our church, but are not registered pa-rishioners. It is important to be registered and use your offering envelopes so that if you ever request a letter, whether it’s for being a godparent, sponsor, marriage, confirmation, tax statement or any other purpose, we can check our records and see that you attend Mass here. This would also benefit you if you would like to have your child enrolled in next year’s Religious Education Pro-gram. If you are not registered in the church, we cannot issue or sign any type of letter stating that you are a member of the parish, even if you attend Mass here. If you would like to register and receive offering envelopes, you must complete our registration form. You may also use the parishioner’s updated form (green) located on the church lobby shelf for any changes to your address, email or phone number. If you have any questions, please contact the office.

New Members to the St. James Community

If you are a new member and have officially registered here at St. James Catholic Church, you are still required to attend a new members’ meeting. Meetings are scheduled the second Sunday of each month after the 11:00 am Mass. The next scheduled meeting is June 10, 2018, with Robert Bass. If you have any questions, contact the parish office at 702-648-6606.

St. James Community Please be respectful of our Sanctuary.

Gum chewing in church is not acceptable. Please do not remove gum from your mouth and leave it on the seat. It is unsanitary and costly to remove from the chairs. Also, do not bring food or any drinks (other than water); and please do not leave water bottles and other debris in the church. We want all to keep in mind the reverence of God’s House. Careful attention should be given to appropriate attire at all times. Thank you and God Bless

Las Vegas Chapter of Lay Dominicans Did you know that the Dominicans also have a Third Order, known as Tertiaries? These followers of St. Dominic strive to grow in spirituality by showing their love and service to their parish family and the commu-nity at large. Through prayer and study they are able to grow in the ways of St Dominic., St. Thomas, and St. Catherine of Siena.

If you have ever had questions about the Third Order of Lay Domini-cans, the Las Vegas Chapter typically meets on the last Saturday of each month at 9:00 a.m. at the St. Thomas Aquinas Newman Center on the campus of UNLV. The Director of the UNLV Campus Ministry, Fr. Daniel Rolland, O.P., is their Spiritual Director. For more information or to join the Lay Order of Preachers, please visit our website at http://bartololongo.org

Bulletin Announcements Deadline/Bulletin Advertising

Written announcements to be published in our Sunday church bulletins must be received by the church secretary no later than noon on Tuesdays (unless there are early submissions due to holidays). Unfortunately, bulletin announcements advertising for profit organizations/businesses will not be accepted. If you would like your profit organizations/businesses to be published on our back bulletin page, please contact bulletin publisher, J. S. Paluch Co., 1-800-231-0805. We do encourage all of our parishioners to use those advertisers listed. Our church bulle-tin is published free because of their advertising with Paluch. Also, if your advertisement is listed on the back bulletin adver-tising page, you are most welcome to place your business in-formation on our church information shelf in the front lobby. Thank you for your support.

Light a Candle, Say a Prayer, Support your Church - Did you know we have a special reserved area for prayer in our church? It's our little Blessed Sacrament chapel, and it's located in the Northwest corner of the church. There, we reserve some consecrated hosts - the Body of Christ - in the tabernacle (that is why we have a candle burning in that area). In addition to im-ages of Mary and Joseph and Jesus, we also have a panel of votive candles. A strong tradition among Christians since the beginning of the Church is to light a candle, while saying a prayer for a loved one or for a special intention. The lighted candle represents Christ, the Light of the World, who brings light and life into our lives. Donations are made when lighting a candle. So, take a moment after mass sometime, to visit Our Lord in the chapel, and Light a Candle, Say a Prayer, and Sup-port your Church!

Respectfulness in the Sanctuary and the Vestibule Please refrain from talking during Mass. Also the vestibule is an extension of the Sanctuary when Mass is going on. There are parishioners and little ones in the vestibule who want to participate in the Mass but need to sit in the vestibule. If there is a need to discuss other matters, please do so outside. Thank you.

Lobby Bulletin Board and Information Shelf Please do not place any materials on the lobby bulletin board or the information shelf unless approved by the pastor.
