2. PENNY MADDISON is an award winning artist specializing inWatercolour, teaching the subjectand tutoring overseas and localpainting tours. She has held four soloexhibitions and shared in manyothers with her work in collectionshere and overseas. Her love ofwatercolour has seen her deeplyinvolved with The WatercolourSociety of W.A. of which she is aFellow. 3. MIKAELA CASTLEDINE is a published writer and an artist, havingexhibited professionally for over twenty five years. She has participatedin many solo and group shows and won many prizes. Mikaela lives inKalamunda in a purpose built “Arthouse” with a tree top studio and anexpectation of creativity from all who enter the front door. She works inthe mediums of paper collage and crochet sculpture. Mikaela was therecipient of the prestigious WA Sculpture by the Sea scholarship in 2013and the Sculpture Inside award in 2016. 3. STEPHEN CASTLEDINE is an artist and graphic designer. His passion for drawing started at an early age and has continued throughout hisprofessional life. He also enjoys the freedom of watercolour in his

and has participated inmany exhibitions since.

CEDRIC BAXTERO.A.M. is a former political cartoonist/illustrator/art director anddesigner as well as spending 25years as lecturer in Art & Designlecturing in Graphics, Fine ArtDrawing and Painting. 4. ANITA PHILLIPS is a hills artist who working in oils, paintsatmospheric and moody landscapes, cloudscapes and the occasionalstill life. Having grown up in the Wheatbelt of WA, she often depictsthemes associated with her family farm and the open expanses of theagricultural landscape. This fascination with skies is a recurring theme inmuch of her work. Anita’s paintings speak to a sense of nostalgia andmoments in time – more an impression than a specific depiction oflandscape. CHRIS OXBERRYwas born inLondon, UK and emigrated toAustralia shortly after marrying.She has been a teacher all heradult life, specialising in Englishas a Second Language to adultmigrants and teaching primaryschool children, including as anart specialist. Chris has alwaysbeen interested in art and hasstudied at various institutionsand at privately -run studios,focussing on a wide range ofdisciplines including ceramics,drawing and painting usingmainly acrylics, oils and pastels.Subject matter is varied and hasbeen largely inspired by her

12. PAUL MORO studiedIndustrial Design atWAIT (now known asCurtin University) in theearly 80’s. He went on tobecome a lecturer inIndustrial Design atCurtin University, whilealso running his ownbusiness in Design. By the early 90’s whenmaking Roboticequipment for

Industrial use he was inspired to return to his artistic roots and begancreating metal sculptures. This has now become his full time passion. Paul has had artworks on display at many galleries in WA and most recentlyreceived a commission by the Kalamunda Historical Society to produce apiece of work that depicted the history of Kalamunda including the Zig Zagrailway. This has now been installed on the side of one of their buildings inthe History Village. His studio is in Walliston surrounded by both native andmanufactured wildlife and fauna! 13. ANDREA VINKOVICAndrea Vinkovic is a ceramic artist inspired by fragility, organic beauty and delicatebalance of natural environment,and intrigued by parallels withcultural environment. Her work isinspired by microscopic imagesof pollens, planktons, moleculesand natural structures. Vinkoviccompleted an Advanced Diplomaof Art and Craft in ceramics atCentral Institute of Technology in2002. She has exhibited her workin Perth and across Australia since2001, including participation ininvitational exhibition andworkshops in Gangjin, S. Korea,national ceramic conferences in

9. SANDIE SCHRODER has been living in the Perth hills for the past 12years. Living amongst the bush environment has directly impacted her artwork. The threat of fire is shown through her works by the techniques sheuses to create her pieces. Sandie burns the archival paper to produce herimages using a variety of tools and techniques. She has had many closecalls when creating these pieces, with them literally going up in smoke asthe burning got out of control, reinforcing the ever present threat of fire,living amongst our volatile bushland. Sandie has a Bachelor of Fine ArtsDegree majoring in Painting and Sculpture from Curtin University.Her works have been hung in public and private collections and galleriesnationally. 10. SANDRA HALL My current focus is on raw nature in the landscape. The small and common is given a close scrutiny with a view to exposing thethe extraordinary fragility and beauty there. The ongoing consciousness ofthe loss of biodiversity under population pressure drives my thinking as wellas a childhood on a coffee plantation in South India where the natural worldwas dominant. Scientific illustrations inform some of the layout of my printsbut don’t want to be merely descriptive and Midland with its power pylonsand earth moving machinery offers powerful symbols about landscape.Some ideas come from my back garden, others from the hills environs andiconic places around Western Australia and North Queensland.

11. MOIRA COURTI am a printmaker andchildren's book illustratorworking predominantlywith woodcuts and linoprints combined withsilkscreen prints usinghand cut paper stencils.My work is inspired bynature, conservation,folklore and folkart.

ZIG ZAG CULTURAL CENTREis a dedicated visitor centre andgallery space which provides afocal point for artists. The Centreis designed as a multi-purposefacility and has been developedto encourage greater communityinvolvement and growth ofvisitation to the City of Kalamunda.Combining a Visitor Centre, Art

Gallery and Mason & Bird Café it is designed to enhance the appeal of thePerth Hills as a tourism destination.

14. GAIL DOUST KEIRLE grew up on her family farm near Manjimup, deepin the Jarrah and Marri Forests of South Western Australia, before spendingher early adult life in suburban Perth. In 2005 she moved to Lesmurdie inthe hills east of Perth, and again connected to the forests which now inspireher to explore their beauty in watercolours. Starting in 2008, she wasprivileged to have watercolour lessons with Virginia Ward who shared herpassion for the subtle colours and movement of the Swan River waters andforeshores. In 2009 Gail began to attend workshops and then private tuitionwith Lori Neuzerling. Gail’s insights and influences come during hours ofwandering, observing and collecting. Much time is spent meditating, sittingin, and being in awe of, our wonderful forests, deserts and waterways. Shealso spends a great deal of time in her trusty camper van adventuringaround our wonderful country. Favourite inspirations now come fromhonky nuts, bark, leaves, birds’ nests, lichens and mushrooms and fungi.One of Gail’s greatest pleasures comes from sharing the beauty and depthsof her paintings and this has led to several commissions, a Lion’s Art Awardand many visitors to her Lesmurdie garden and studio. George Hayward studied Artand Design first at Cambridgeand later at Chelmsford in theUK. He pursued his ambitionto be a full time painter andalso worked in ceramics on theIsle of Wight before emigratingto Australia. Now fortunate tohave his own purpose builtrammed earth studio inKalamunda he is able to combine his own painting time with that of running“just paint” art classes. His preference is acrylic although he also works in oilsand pastel. With an impatient and spontaneous style, acrylics allow him thefreedom he requires. Nature and landscape have always been a majorinfluence in his work. However, he paints whatever stirs his emotions,especially those that rise from deep within. Helen Hayward loves to paint,loves the process of painting and keenly continues to explore techniqueswhich enable her to express feelings and emotions which arise from anintense connection with nature and the landscape.

6.SUSAN CARAMELI is an artist, author and children's book illustrator.She studied at Edith Cowan University(B.A. in Visual Arts). She works in variousmediums and has exhibited her works inmany galleries in Perth. “ Disappearing Beauties”I am working on multi block linoprints. My concerns are withanimals and landscape. This oneis a protest print about local bushhabitat that is a corridor for theRed-Tail Black Cockatoo. I try tocombine signs with the image toconvey a meaning.
